| Best option to convert Blu-ray for Apple TV Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:21 PM PDT I have gotten a Synology NAS and am looking to convert Blu-Ray movies so I can watch them on Apple TV at the highest quality for each title- such as 4K, Dolby vision, Atmos etc. I'm not concerned about the size of the files- that's why I got the NAS. Two questions here
Regarding the second question, I guess that will also define what I install on Synology to handle streaming such as Video Station, Plex etc. I will only be doing this on my home network and on Apple TV so there is no need to convert files to watch them outside my home network or on other devices like the iPad or iPhone. | Extremely annoying static noise when playing certain tv shows or movies Posted: 04 Jun 2020 04:21 PM PDT So this problem started happening maybe a week or so ago. When I go to play certain shows or movies, defending Jacob or any Star Wars movie in Disney plus for example, this horrid static noise comes through my speakers. I've tried resetting my Apple TV and all kinds of other things. Nothing has changed, it's impossible to watch half of the shows or movies I want to watch because the noise is constant and the audio of the media is distorted and barely audible. Is this a hardware problem? Maybe something with my tv? Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments]  |
| Using game controllers with Apple TV is.. clunky. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 08:44 PM PDT We have an Apple TV, Apple Arcade, and four Nimbus+ controllers, which we use together to play the few games that we can play as a family of four - Crossy Road Castle tops the list. Sometimes, our controllers randomly disconnect from the Apple TV, mid-game. Maybe a Bluetooth issue? When they reconnect a few seconds later, each controller is controlling a different character in the game. It's incredibly frustrating. It sure would be nice to universally designate - and maintain - the controllers as "player one", "player two", "player three" and "player four"... but alas... Any idea why this happens or how to prevent it? Any tips for using multiple controllers? [link] [comments]  |

| YouTube videos on Apple TV: white is too bright Posted: 05 Jun 2020 01:37 AM PDT Hi, a problem I've been having with watching YT videos on the ATV for a while now is that a lot of videos suffer from what I can only describe as too bright white levels. It's as if the white levels are set way too high, so that clipping occurs on bright areas of the video. E.g. if a white piece of paper is shown, the text becomes almost unreadable, because it is drowned out by the white of the paper. Reflections or highlights on human skin (like in the face, hands, arms) become totally white. It can be very distracting at times. I'm sorry I cannot give a more technical description. It's not possible to fix the problem by lowering brightness or contrast on the TV, btw. So I used to think this was a problem with my TV or my ATV, but recently I bought a new ATV and I'm using it with a projector and I'm seeing the exact same issue there! A little info on my setup. One is an ATV3 hooked up to a 1080p HDTV. The other is an ATV 4K connected to an 1080p projector. Both ATVs are running the latest version of tvOS. The ATV3 is running a very old version of the YT app (the one with the more ATV native looking UI) and the ATV4K is running the very latest version of the YT app. In the ATV settings I have changed the video mode from Auto to 1080p SDR, but this doesn't solve the problem. I have also tried changing video resolutions manually in the YT app, which also did not have any effect. YT videos that exhibit this problem look perfectly fine on my iPhone or my computer, but when I AirPlay them from my iPhone to my ATV, the "brightness" issue is there. The problem only exists with YouTube videos. No other app on my ATVs has this problem with video. Anybody else recognize these problems? Any suggestions or help would be welcome! [link] [comments]  |

Any other way to read comments? I find myself looking up my phone more and more just to read the comments. Even the UI is very different from any other tv box (mi box, samsung smart tvs etc) and let's talk about the 1080p cap in 2020 when a huge pile of 4k videos uploaded every second and 4k tvs found at any household worldwide. Posted: 04 Jun 2020 09:24 PM PDT I know Up Next glitches aren't exactly rare, but it's been especially bad for me the last few nights. Like everything that I do gets undone. Sometimes if I then do nothing, the glitch (e.g. watched episode comes back) will eventually fix itself. If I do a bunch of stuff in a somewhat short period of time though during a glitch window, it's a toss up as to what will eventually fix itself and what will require me to manually re-mark as watched. | Fixing metadata when there are two episodes in one (Mac TV App) Posted: 04 Jun 2020 08:34 PM PDT I bought the Legend of Korra and want to put the files into the mac tv app, however there are a couple episodes that actually contain 2 episodes (eg. Season 3 episode 1 and episode 2 is within one video file) Is there a way to make the tv app display both episode descriptions? I'm trying to make everything clean and don't like it going from episode 1 straight to episode 3. Edit: I should mention I used Subler to give it proper artwork and fix things up already, but the two episodes are listed separately so I don't know the best way to go about including it when it's technically both episodes. | Prime TV App show is really dark after OS update Posted: 04 Jun 2020 07:02 AM PDT I'm thinking its the Prime App itself but holy crap, what happened? For reference; the show is Upload. I test this on Netflix and Netflix looked great (as always) and just a few days before "Upload" looking fine, colors were vivid, etc. Now its dark, just dark and nothing I do seems to fix it. I have Chromecasts all over my house since 2013, but I need a more privacy focused replacement. My first thought was a Roku but from what I've read they're not privacy focused like Apple. One of us has an Apple phone and the other Android phone until it bites the dust. I don't like remotes because it's just one more thing to lose so we play everything using our phones. With both Chromecast and Roku I can start playing on my TV straight from the apps: Plex, Spotify, & YouTube. Is this an option with Apple TV or are you forced into using the remote? | HGTV/Food Network authentication Posted: 04 Jun 2020 10:14 AM PDT Hi: I'm not sure if this is an AppleTV issue or a Discovery issue since it involves their channels. Whenever I try to play on-demand content through either the HGTV or Food Network apps on ATV, I need to authenticate on their website using my YouTubeTV credentials. I don't mind doing that once but for some reason I need to do it repeatedly over time. It's like the credentials just won't stay in the app. Has anyone else had this issue?
