External monitor powers keyboard but not functioning Posted: 01 Jun 2020 08:48 PM PDT I am connecting my HP EliteDisplay E273 Monitor to my MacBook Pro with a USB-C to DisplayPort cable. The monitor has two USB ports built in so I tried connecting my Keychron K1 Keyboard to it but it only powers it and it does not function. I read online that it might be that the keyboard requires more power than the monitor provides but just wanted to know if anyone else knew anything about this. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Late 2011 13” MBP, Performance issues Posted: 01 Jun 2020 04:57 PM PDT I bought a late 2011 mbp in early 2019, I got it with 4gb of ram and a 500gb hd, since then I've upgraded the ram to 16gb and the hard drive to an ssd just yesterday. I'm still seeing performance issues, im not sure if it has to do with the cooling in it. It gets very warm very quickly and it i do anything too demanding, it stutters. sometimes just watching a YouTube video causes it to stutter. I ordered new thermal paste today and it should be coming Thursday, I'm hoping a cleaning of the logic board and heating sink might help. If anyone has any advice please let me know! I'm fairly sure the heavy dust inside of it is what is affecting the performance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 08:41 PM PDT JW if anyone knows how to restore the old passwords from a recent back up on time machine on to a recently wiped computer. Needed to do a clean up and backed up right before but still having trouble figuring out how to get my passwords if I even can? Thx [link] [comments]
Cats keeps ruining Magsafe chargers Posted: 01 Jun 2020 04:52 PM PDT Does anyone have any ideas or tips on how to store a Mag safe charge on a desk. I have 2 cats, so I'm not sure which one it is. But in the past year I've replaced 3 magsafe chargers. Today my cat was playing with the end of the cord (magnetic tip) while I was doing other stuff. He picked it up with his mouth or paw. Put it in a cup of water I had on my desk. I didn't notice it until I had walked by, but at that point. It was plugged in, and already fully submerged in water for some time. So I'm buying my 4th magsafe charger today. Maybe I should just wrap it better around the charger. But does anyone do anything different to store there chargers. [link] [comments]
Why does the macbook pro fingerprint sensor push in? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:01 AM PDT Just bought a new macbook and wondered why the fingerprint button pushed in as a click when it appears to work fine without pushing it in. Are there any other functions for this button? [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2015 vs 2018 dillema. Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:35 PM PDT So I'm finally gonna bite the bullet and get myself a macbook pro. I make music and I'm tired of always having to go to studios, and Logic Pro seems like the best software for me, so I decided to finally start being a bit more hands on. Most of my music making friends said that the mid 2015 model is the one to go for, considering it's really good value for money and the ports are really helpful, so I was almost fully decided on that, until another one of my music making friends said that I needed to get a newer model cuz they're noticeably faster and better optimised for the new OS. He said that me getting a 2015 model means im only gonna use it for a year cuz it's not even gonna get support for the next OS. What I'm asking is, is the 400 dollar price difference justifiable between a high level 15 inch from 2015 and a kinda entry level 15 inch from 2018??? Please help. Reddit is my last hope. Please help me choose the right MacBook Pro Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:31 PM PDT My dear MacBook Pro had become very slow after 9 yrs of hard work. It got me through my PhD and post doc. I am currently trying to write a paper, but it takes 5-10 mins to start up. I live in the east coast and none of the apple stores are open right now so I am in desperate need of guidance. I am going to use it mainly for writing and reading papers. This involves having 100+ pdf papers saved on the computer, the use of endnote for citation purposes, prism for data analysis and Microsoft office. I don't need to edit any videos, but there is a possibility that I might need to install few softwares in the future. I have been looking at the $1,799 model. It comes with 2.5 GHz with i5 processor, 16GB memory and 1TB SSD storage. I should mention that I know nothing about those numbers so I may not even need to have that much power. Please help me chose the right MBP for my need. I was hoping the stores would open this week, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I am also open to MacBook Air. Thank you for your help Edit: forgot to mention that I want 13" and I will also be storing data on excel. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 07:15 PM PDT So my MBP is less than 2 weeks old - other than browsing the internet and social media I use it for teaching online (Google programs) and I haven't even used it for Zoom videos yet. Tonight I had maybe 6 tabs open - some Google items and Facebook and suddenly my MB sounded like it was about to take off for flight the fan was so loud. It quieted down after a little bit, went silent, then started getting louder again two more times - not quiet as loud but I finally just shut it down. I'm still within my return period but is this a common issue? I only have the base model MBP. [link] [comments]
2020 MBA keeps disconnecting from wifi? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 03:28 PM PDT unsure if this is a common issue. I've only had the device for a day and have had it updated since yesterday on 10.15.5 There's really no rhyme or reason for it, but it just keeps disconnecting from the 5ghz band without any warning or by repeating anything I was doing when it first happened. I'm currently using it on 2.4ghz to see if it does the same thing, but when it disconnects, I can't get it connect back to that network unless I completely turn off wifi and turn it back on. It happened 3 times yesterday and about 5 times today. Just as a bit of troubleshooting I've already done, none of my other devices lose wifi when this happens and I've already completely unplugged my router/modem and rebooted them. I'm pretty much at a loss here. I really don't want to take it back to Best Buy, but I'm not sure what else to try at this point. [link] [comments]

Odd Behavior with Battery Health Management Posted: 01 Jun 2020 06:48 PM PDT Hi all! I'm rocking a 2019 13" MacBook Pro, and have seen some weird behavior with the Battery Health Management feature that was just released. I had the same issues on the beta, but chalked it up to it being a beta; now that it's released (and I'm no longer on the beta track, I'm on 10.15.5 proper) I'm seeing the same behavior and wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts. Over the past few months, I have used my laptop pretty much 24/7 docked. I have it hooked up to a USB-C monitor (34WN80C-B) which promises 60w of output. Whenever I have it plugged in with BHM on, my laptop simply drains; I thought this might be part of the BHM intended behavior, but I let it go down to 0% once and it simply died, even while on power. It does this every time it's plugged in, and only when it's plugged into my monitor; on the official brick or a third-party (Ravpower) one it charges normally when BHM is on. My monitor supplies power to the laptop fine when BHM is off (stays at 100%), so this behavior is quite perplexing to me—it only dies on my monitor, and only when BHM is on. Whenever it's draining it shows up as a 0w power source in System Information, but again, this only happens when BHM is on; when it's off, it shows up a 60w power source just fine. It's not a huge deal to simply disable the feature (after all, it was "disabled" before), but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts before I gave up on the feature. Thanks! Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:35 PM PDT I have a 2019 MacBook Air, it fell and the top lid got scratched up and bent. Unfortunately I didn't get Apple care, and I'm looking to get the top lid replaced by Apple. About how much would it cost in CAD? [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Jun 2020 05:03 PM PDT The "E" key was stuck so I idiotically scratched around the edges of the key to try to get it working. The key just kinda popped off along with the two tabs on the bottom of the switches. I booked an Apple genius appointment but I'm kind of worried that this isn't covered by the repair program. Suggestions for eGPU setup for 15" Macbook Pro Retina (mid 2015) Posted: 01 Jun 2020 03:22 PM PDT Advise needed for an egpu setup. I'm a video editor (Adobe Premiere / After effects) I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) with:

2012 Retina MacBook Pro wont turn on after battery replacement Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:21 PM PDT Hi, I was recently having an issue with my late 2012 macbook pro with retina display. The battery life had gotten really bad on it and it would be very very laggy when waking up if it wasn't plugged in to the ac adapter. One day, it just never turned back on and I couldn't get the battery light to to come on and indicate charging when I would plug the adapter in. I did the reset (option+left shit+control+power) and after the reset, the battery light came on and it began charging. Once it was charged enough to power back up, the battery was totally shot. It would turn off if I unplugged the adapter so I assumed the battery was dead. Everything else was working as normal when plugged in. I ordered a replacement battery from PureDick on amazon. I watched the videos online and replaced the battery successfully. After replacing, I shut down, charged the macbook battery to 100%, then I changed all the energy saving settings so it wouldn't sleep and allowed it to drain completely before recharging completely and resetting the energy settings. It worked like it was brand new out of the box for 1-2 days however, this morning I closed the monitor while it was still on (attempting to put it to sleep) and when I went back to it an hour or two later I couldn't get it to turn on. The battery light was orange indicating it was charging and eventually switched to green but I still can't get it on. I've tried the same reset, holding down power, unplugging and replugging in the adapter and still nothing. So confusing - just when I thought it was all fixed! Anyone have any ideas on possible remedies or what could have gone wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated it. Thank you so much! [link] [comments]
My 2020 MBP 13 is making a silent clicking noise whenever it performs a task Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:14 PM PDT Opening a webpage, processing a photoshop task, etc. The clicking is rapid and pretty quiet/unnoticeable but I don't know if this is normal or not. Has anyone else noticed this? [link] [comments]

3x Monitor-capable Docking Station Suggestion? Posted: 01 Jun 2020 12:34 PM PDT I apologize if this is the wrong place to ask -- if there's a better spot, I'll happily move the post. I'm looking for an external "docking station" for a 16" Macbook Pro that can support the internal display + 2x 1920x1200 + 1x 2560x1600 monitors. All monitors support DisplayPort and HDMI. It would be super ideal if the dock also supported USB 2.0/3.0 type-A, 3.5mm audio out, and the ability to power the laptop. I don't mind the price. I want something rock solid of excellent quality. I'll rather bear the pain once in my wallet than endure daily frustration. But I don't want to throw money at a solution stupidly if there are more pragmatic options to be had. I can be convinced to reduce that to just 1x of each (internal, 1x 1920x1200, 1x 2560x1200) if that's my only option, and run the remaining panel directly to the laptop. So it's not a deal-breaker if I'm limited to a dock supporting only 2x externals. [I currently use a 2013 Macbook Pro 15", and I have 2x USB + power + 2x DP via thunderbolt monitors + audio + 1x HDMI -- and I feel the mere 4x USB-C ports on the 2020 16" are a serious step backwards from a seven year old machine.] Thank you all in advance.
