I crafted Minimal | Notes because I wanted a simple, beautiful app that feels like a real notebook. Posted: 06 Jun 2020 11:16 AM PDT Hi r/Apple, I started building Minimal | Notes while listening to jazz and drinking a negroni. I was feeling inspired, and also feeling just so tired of all these notes apps that get overwhelmed with features, making them feel like entire desks, filing cabinets, or hefty binders. While there's a place for these big apps, I wanted to experience the digital equivalent of a paper notebook: something personal, focused, and beautiful to write in. So I crafted Minimal. Minimal is a beautiful space to think, write, and organize projects. It's designed to foster focus and open-mindedness. For example... the Note Lifetime keeps your notes fresh, organized, and reflective of the present moment. Markdown-style formatting eliminates complex formatting menus. Importantly, only one element is ever in focus. The result is a notes app that is simple yet powerful, just like a real notebook. Minimal does have big features like Cloud Sync, elegant formatting, effortless sharing, notes list re-ordering, export tools, calendar sync, and much more – but they're designed to be invisible. Instead of cluttering the writing experience, these features remain hidden until the moment you want them. Some of Minimal's freshest, more innovative features include the Note Lifetime, Add Todos to Calendar, Send as Email, and Share in iMessage. Read about these below -> Note LifetimeLet your notes die. Notes automatically move to the Deleted Notes folder when they go unedited for the duration you choose in the settings menu. To keep a note alive, pin-to-top or make an edit. The result is a clean, organized notebook that is always reflective of the present moment. Add Todos to CalendarSync todo items to the Calendar app by highlighting the todos and tapping "Add to Calendar" from the menu options. Alternatively, tap the action button in the top right corner -> "Add Todos to Calendar." Cloud SyncNotes sync everywhere: Mac, iPad, and iPhone. On Apple Watch, create new notes with dictation. Markdown FormattingEffortlessly format notes and bring them beautifully to life. Minimal supports headers, todos, bulleted lists, numbered lists, bold/italics/underline, pull + block quotes, links, and more. Subtractive DesignWe designed Minimal to foster focus and present moment awareness. Only one element is ever in focus. Customize EverythingChoose fonts and themes, reorganize the notes list, and configure custom note actions. Everything in Minimal can be personalized. Todo ListsOur projects live within Minimal. From personal goals including cultivating a strong yoga practice, to professional tasks like creating apps. Send as EmailTransform your notes into beautifully formatted emails. Share in iMessageEasily share notes through Minimal's iMessage app. Shared notes retain their formatting and are easily imported. Export as HTML, PDF, TXT, and MarkdownExport notes into any format you need. If there's a format we don't yet support, please write me. Import NotesEasily import notes, text, and URLs from any app that supports sharing. —— Minimal is in beta, and you can download for free using Apple's TestFlight. Once I launch publicly, I plan to charge a small monthly or annual fee after a super long free trial. However beta testers will continue to have unlimited access to everything, totally free. You can lock in your free access and begin contributing to Minimal's roadmap by visiting minimal.app and joining the beta. Thanks, everyone! [link] [comments]

Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:54 PM PDT Hi guys, I made an app called Downlow as a self-taught project in app development, where you can draw circles on the map and create geofenced chatrooms to talk in. Anyone on the app within the radius you specify will then be able to join in chat. I got the idea after people were stuck in flats due to lockdowns with no way to easily talk to each other, and then I could see it being pretty useful at festivals, hostels, parks etc as well for people to quickly socialise, get information and meet people. I made the website here to showcase it's features and show a few screenshots: Links to download for iOS (and Google Play) are: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/downlow/id1504007565?app=itunes&ign-mpt=uo%3D4 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=www.downlow.app On the whole I found Flutter to be pretty fantastic to learn and quick to implement new ideas, and having one codebase for both iOS and Android is very nice. The error handling is pretty clear and the hot reload is great for UI tweaking, but there are lots of little fiddly bits where you have to hunt down 3 year old GitHub and stack overview threads to work out why you're having a particular issue. I find the build process to be particularly cumbersome too and have issues where I can build to devices fine, but building/archiving in order to post to the AppStore crashes pretty often. Still trying to work that one out. Happy for any critique/feedback please - thanks! Note: posting this for the second time after had a database issue - should all be fine now. Thanks. Posted: 06 Jun 2020 06:38 AM PDT Like most people, I use MS Office extensively at work for the past 6 years. Previously, I used G Suite during college days. In the last few months, I started Pages, Numbers and Keynote, and I have been pleasantly surprised. I use Android phone as my daily driver, so was always invested in the Google ecosystem. But I do have a MacBook Pro for serious work which I started using more as I have been at home most of the time in last few months. That's when I decided to remove other apps like OneNote, Notion, Dropbox paper, Google Docs etc. and started using Pages, Numbers, Keynote (for my personal projects). I have started loving these programs. Have you used iWork suite? Would love to hear your experience using these programs. [link] [comments]
Refreshed iMac, iMac Pro and Mac Pro might have much better GPUs Posted: 06 Jun 2020 06:19 AM PDT There are few hints that indicate that the next refreshes of Mac Pro, iMac Pro, and possibly the maxed-out 27" iMac might be a lot better for gaming than they historically were. I didn't see them posted here so I thought I'd share. Just to be clear, "good" here means that in absolute terms (not relative to price), these will likely have good gaming performance. PCs and consoles will of course likely remain significantly more cost-effective options for gaming, so no need to point that out. Also, you'd still need Boot Camp to have a vast game collection, as usual. First, AMD has made a lot of progress in recent years, both on the CPU and GPU front. Apple is unlikely to switch to AMD CPUs, but likely to keep using AMD GPUs for the next few years (ARM Macs aside). On the GPU front, AMD's RDNA (Navi) GPUs, such as the 5700 XT are already pretty decent, a lot more than the RX 580, which was the most common relatively powerful GPU you would get on a Mac without falling into the prohibitively expensive Vega Pro line. Unfortunately, Apple is late to adopt Navi GPUs, and no Mac desktops have been refreshed to use them, except the Mac Pro which (only recently) got the W5700X as a BTO option. But what's interesting is that RDNA2 GPUs are coming out later this year (AMD's CFO suggested they might come to computers before consoles), and these look like they'll be a lot better than RDNA1 (which itself was already a big improvement over GCN cards). RDNA2 is the same GPU architecture that the next-gen consoles (Xbox Series X and PS5) will use, and will feature hardware-accelerated raytracing. A week ago, the drivers for RDNA2 GPUs were leaked and decoded, and evidence of 4 new desktop GPUs specifically for Macs was found:
These are the internal variant names by the way, not their marketing name. They're ordered from least to most powerful. It's unclear which variant will end up in which Mac, but my guess is that the ones labeled "Pro" will be for the iMac Pro and Mac Pro, and the two others will be for the 27" iMac. Of course, these are unreleased, so we have no independent benchmarks, but according to AMD's claims, we should expect something like a 2x improvement over the RX 580, which is currently used in the 27" iMac, Mac Pro, and Blackmagic eGPU. Further evidence of major Mac desktop GPU improvements have been mentioned by Economic Daily News, by Twitter leaker @choco_bit, and by Apple rumors website AppleTrack. Again, this doesn't mean one should buy one of those new Macs specifically for gaming, but it wouldn't be surprising if late this year or early next, we could buy Mac desktops with a GPU similar to those of next-gen consoles. Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:03 AM PDT Update: All promo codes gone, but you can still try out the full app for free. I'm the developer of Liftin' Workout Tracker, a gym app for iPhone and Apple Watch inspired by apps made by Apple. I have released some big updates this spring and wanted to share them here on Reddit, as I usually get such great feedback from you guys! If you want a promo code, send me a message! Leave the comments for discussion and feedback. I will throw in a Lifetime promo code for a randomly selected user! 🥳 What's new in Liftin'
Auto progression is one of Liftin's most loved features. It makes it easy to set up rules how weight should increase or decrease depending on your results. Now you can also choose to automatically increase reps instead of weight for an exercise. Perfect for body weight exercises like pushups that has become popular with more people working out from home. You can also choose to auto increase time if the exercise is timer based.
When tracking rep based exercises, you can now target at range of reps (ex. 5-10 reps) or AMRAP sets with a minimum (ex 5+ reps). This is an important step in my plan to enable full support for programs like nSuns and 5/3/1. More is coming later this year!
In addition to weight, you can now see graphs of weigh volume, reps and time for timer based exercises. You can also use the new 6 month (6M) view to see weekly summaries of the data points, in addition to the monthly summaries in the year view. Also, you can select which metric you prefer as default per exercise, and Liftin' will surface PRs related to that metric in the Progress tab.
Liftin's data has always been stored in a way that its restored when users restore their phone from an backup. Now the data also survives app deletions and factory resets of the device, you data is safely and automatically backed up to iCloud. Thanks to everyone who are using Liftin' and sending me feedback! You help me make the app better! 🙏 You can follow me on Twitter @liftinApp if you want all the latest updates. I'm looking forward hearing your feedback! 🙂 PS. If you want to join the beta program (which is free) I have some spots there as well, you can sign up here. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jun 2020 05:39 PM PDT Hi everyone! If you're a dog owner, you probably hear "did you feed the dog?" "did the dog go potty?" or "did the dog get her medicine?" every day. My family and I got tired of asking these questions every day so we created an app for us to track all of our dog's activities in one place. We created this app to help our family and are now trying to help as many pet owners as possible to keep their pets healthy and happy. Link: DogLog in App Store If you're tired or asking your family/roommates the "if" questions about your dogs, have a puppy whose potty schedule you're trying to figure out, or have a sick dog whose medicines and symptoms you need to track, please give DogLog a try :) I love feedback and hearing from our users, feel free to message here or through the app. -------- To use the app, you create a Pack with all of your pets and their caregivers (like family, roommates, etc) and anytime someone does an activity with the dogs, you log an event and everyone gets notified that your dog is being taken care of. Currently we have: reminders, trend analysis, photo albums, and a profile with all of your pet's important information. [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Jun 2020 11:14 AM PDT Hi folks 🙋🏽♂️ For the past few months I've been learning app development and thought I would create something I'm passionate about. So I have created an app that helps you stay updated with the space industry by providing you info on past & upcoming space launches from around the world. I mainly made it for myself but hopefully some of you also find it useful. I'm still learning development but I spent a lot of time trying to make it modern and responsive, If you end up downloading it, I would love to hear your feedback and what features you would want to see added/changed.I post about it on twitter, if you want to keep up with the process of building something like this. [Self Promo Saturday] I made a small utility to set the charge limit on older MacBooks Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:56 AM PDT Hey /r/apple, I wasn't sure if this counted as a self-promo as its not an iOS app or anything but I decided to post today to be safe. As most people know macOS Catalina 10.15.5 introduce something called Battery Health Management Features. However that feature only works on MacBook's with Thunderbolt 3 ports and newer (source: "Battery health management is on by default ... after you upgrade to macOS 10.15.5 on a Mac notebook with Thunderbolt 3 ports." https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211094). That meant my perfectly fine 2015 MacBook Pro 13" didn't make the cut. That was a little disappointing because honestly it's probably the older MacBooks that would benefit from this feature the most. After doing some research I found a parameter called BCLM (presumably "Battery Charging Level Max") in the SMC which limits the charge of the battery to a set value. It's default value is set to 100 for full charge. I modified the value to 70 (70% charge limit) using a utility called `smcutil` and drained my battery to a little less than that so I could test to see if it worked. I plugged in my MacBook again and found out that the battery now charges only up to the set limit! Undoing the changes was as easy as resetting the value back to 100. Here is a screenshot of the battery level that its maintaining: https://i.imgur.com/mmz8lVD.png (battery app is coconutBattery). You can expect the battery levels to be a +/- off a few percents of the set limit. With that knowledge, I made a small utility in JXA (Javascript Application Scripting) using Apple's Script Editor and put it on GitHub. I don't have any guarantee that this will actually help in managing battery life or that it is safe to mess around with the SMC but it works and there seems to be no issues so far. It checks for updates on startup but if you don't trust that feel free to block it using LS or Lulu. https://i.imgur.com/ugdXTmz.png If you are interested here is the link to the [GitHub Project Page](https://github.com/godly-devotion/charge-limiter). TripUp – a photo album collaboration app with end-to-end encryption Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:16 AM PDT https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tripup-private-photo-sharing/id1420176032 Hi /r/apple. I've done a lot of travelling with friends and family throughout my life, but one thing that's always bothered me is how difficult it is to organize photos with groups. Despite having all these amazing apps and tools available, the experience still feels broken – create a shared album or folder (or lets face it, WhatsApp group chat), add your pics, then go through everyone else's pics to pick and choose the ones we want to download to our own library, then finally, if you can still be bothered by now, creating a personal album with those photos to keep them grouped together. Even after all that, photos aren't guaranteed to be in the right order, some are duplicated, some are missing metadata, potentially compressed or degraded and nearly always subject to questionable data privacy policies. I created TripUp to make this experience easier. Every album in TripUp is both a personal and shared album. Add all your photos from a group holiday or event, then swipe on the specific photos you'd like to make visible to everyone else in the album. TripUp does the rest – ensuring photos are sent instantaneously, at full resolution and ordered chronologically with each users personal photos in the album. It's cloud-synced so its available across multiple devices, accessible offline, and everything is end-to-end encrypted. This is my first iOS app, developed natively in Swift. It supports Dark Mode and Sign in with Apple too. It's free to use and comes with an optional subscription purchase for more cloud storage (in other words not a bullshit subscription app – the subscription fee is to cover cloud storage costs as well development costs). Any feedback (hopefully constructive) is most welcome 🙂 [link] [comments] |
