    Apple TV HDMI-CEC Options?

    Apple TV HDMI-CEC Options?

    HDMI-CEC Options?

I've dug through the settings on the AppleTV and my television (LG C1 OLED) and I cannot seem to find this particular setting, so I'm wondering if I'm just missing it or if it doesn't exist at all?

Currently, when my TV is off, if I turn the TV on the AppleTV automatically turns on as well. This is a bit bothersome as it doesn't play nice with other HDMI-CEC devices. For example, if my TV is off and I turn on either my Xbox of Nintendo Switch, HDMI-CEC causes the TV to turn on as well (great, that's expected behavior) but it also causes the AppleTV to turn on (because it turns on whenever the TV powers up) and causes the TV to switch to the AppleTV's input (because HDMI-CEC causes the TV select the input of the most recently turned on device). This is dumb, unexpected behavior. If I turn on the Xbox, it's obviously to play Xbox games. If I wanted to use the AppleTV, I'd wake it (and the TV) with the AppleTV remote or maybe the TV's remote.

On my Xbox, I can go into the HDMI-CEC settings and there are granular options to give more control over how HDMI-CEC behaves, such as when it does/doesn't trigger another device to turn on/off or switch inputs. Are there similar settings in the AppleTV or LG C1 menus that I'm just unable to find? I just want to be able to turn on my Xbox or Switch without having to then pick up the TV remote and switch back to the Xbox/Switch's input.

    Apple TV Homepod setup.

    Posted: 16 Jun 2022 02:59 PM PDT

So, have had an existing Apple TV 4K connected to my Samsung TV for a while - moved house, so new ISP, new WIfi SSID, New Home IP Address Layout, and Added two Homepods. The home pods have been paired with the apple TV to give sound output through them, and TV commands.

Several Issues. We (wife and Self) both have the TV "Control" stuff coming up on our phones (Iphone 12s) and Apple Watches) - don't want this - particularly on the watches, as it prevents them from being used for other stuff.

How do I "Name" the homepods - they are coming up as Lounge Room (2) and (3) - Want to change them to Left and Right or such like.

Want to be able to use them to play music from our Apple Plus music library - it would appear that they don't do this without the Apple TV (and the TV) being turned on.

Is tvOS able to swap between other connected HDMI devices in the OS itself?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2022 12:19 PM PDT

Hello, I am very interested in the AppleTV 4K as a gift for my family but I have some questions since I am not very knowledgeable on smart TV accessories/sticks. My main question is mostly condensed into q1. Sorry if this is not enough info, please ask if you want me to clarify anything.

    1. With AppleTV plugged into the TV, will I still have to use the built-in TV UI to i.e. switch to my PS5/change TV settings/etc or can that all be done within the tvOS? (Context: Basically I hate the Samsung OS on my tv and I'd preferably never want to see it or its millions of ads again so this is a key point of interest for me)
    2. Following on from this, can the PS5/etc plug into the back of the AppleTV device or will it need to still be plugged into the main TV? (I haven't seen a clear image of the back of the device so I'm not sure - I assume not but idk)
    3. Will the Siri remote completely replace my TV's default remote controller in the event that I will need to navigate my TV's in-built UI if the answer to q1 is true? In other words, will I only need to use the Siri remote once AppleTV is plugged into my TV or will I still need the default remote available for my Samsung TV??

Thanks for reading. Just a bit concerned as it is a fairly pricy purchase
