Downgrading to Mojave question Posted: 25 May 2020 08:06 AM PDT I'm currently making a backup with Time Machine while using the latest version, Catalina. Like the title says I would like to downgrade to Mojave because I'd like to use certain programs I can't use anymore. Will the backup of Time Machine bring me back to Catalina after I downgraded? Notification Centre: Now Playing widget for Apple Music Posted: 25 May 2020 10:18 PM PDT The "Now Playing" widget is only showing whatever is currently playing on your computer, e.g. Youtube, Spotify, SoundCloud, etc. Is there a widget similar but just for Apple Music? So I can start playing my music through a click of a button in the notification center? Edit: I'm asking regarding for macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Beta [link] [comments]
I'm new to the Apple ecosystem. What great MacOS/iOS exclusive apps should I look into? Posted: 25 May 2020 06:23 PM PDT So far I've adopted Bear in place of Evernote, and Spark to manage my email. I love them, especially Spark. It's so convenient and easy to use I can't imagine going back to managing my email without it. What other tools and apps should I look into? I've spent a lifetime on Windows/Linux/Android and just started using a Macbook about a year ago, and just got my first iPhone about a week ago. [link] [comments]
[HELP] Utility to swap ctrl and cmd key based on active app. Posted: 26 May 2020 01:13 AM PDT I use Microsoft RD to connect to my windows machine. There's a lot of copying and shortcuts involved and I always get confused between ctrl and cmd. So is there any app which can automate the swap of these two keys based on the app I'm using? MacBook Air not connecting to monitor Posted: 25 May 2020 08:35 PM PDT This week my MacBook Air 2018 model decided to stop connecting to my monitor it's a 32' MSI 4k display if that matters. I connect my mac to my monitor using an Insignia mini displayport to hdmi cable. It was working last week and all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried booting on safe mode and using the detect display to no avail. [link] [comments]
OS question about MacBook Pro mid-2010 Posted: 25 May 2020 07:46 PM PDT I've been running the original OS that it came with, and I plan on putting in more Ram, an SSD, and a new battery. I was wondering when I replace them, will it still be running the original OS I had with it and then I can update it, or would I need to copy my old HardDrive to my new SSD? [link] [comments]

OneDrive Symlinks taking up space? Posted: 25 May 2020 07:10 PM PDT I have a MBP 13" 2017 with 128GB SSD that I bought refurbished. I currently use both iCloud and OneDrive for storage. iCloud for sync between my iPhone SE and my Mac, and OneDrive because of Office 365. My Mac is complaining that it's running out of space, at least according to the Storage tab on System Information. System Information seems to believe the culprit of the space being used is from OneDrive files, but the issue is these files have never been "downloaded". OneDrive is set up to only list objects until I open them (On-Demand Files). Once I open them, the full copy is downloaded. The problem is I've never opened these files the OS is complaining about. When I do a 'du -sh *' on the directory where it complains space is being used, all of the files are being show as 0 Bytes. Anyone else run into this issue before? I'd assume it's some information about the file that Mac OS is reading and automatically assuming that much space is being used on the drive. Edit: Visual Example [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 May 2020 10:43 AM PDT Hey guys, Essentially, I have a lot of tabs open on my safari and would like to know if there's a faster way to organize them rather than clicking and dragging each of them around from the top of the web page. Pressing the tab icon on my iPhone safari brings up a card view of all my current tabs, and holding one of them down allows me to drag it to where I want it to go. Clicking the same button (or doing the two finger gesture) on my Mac brings up a similar 'card style' view of all my tabs, but I cannot find if there's a way to drag them around from this screen. I think it would be easier and make a lot more sense if I could reorder them from the expanded card style page (like on my iPhone) rather than dragging each tab around from the top of the screen on a web page view. Is there any way to do this natively or perhaps with an extension? Does this question make any sense? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 May 2020 05:53 PM PDT Hi, I had some sensitive files on a USB Flash Drive and the drive is formatted as FAT32 so I can use it both on MacOS and Windows. Unfortunately, the most important files in my drive are now corrupted. I don't know how to get them back because when I open the drive, it recognizes it, some files are there but after a few seconds that the drive is open it gets ejected! This means I can't run any data recovery tool successfully (that I know of). I have tried RecoverIt and EasyUS and same results, the drive gets ejected. Do you have any solutions? The data is quite sensitive and important so I want to avoid recovery services as much as possible and preferably do it myself. I connect the USB using an original Apple USB A to C adaptor. Currently running the most recent version of Catalina ( not a beta) on a MacBook Pro 2019. These files were copied from a scanner on a windows computer but as I said the drive itself is FAT32 and also I have an NFTS reader on the Mac. I currently don't have access to windows and really don't want to install it on this Mac unless absolutely necessary. Any solution is greatly appreciated. These data recovery companies charge a lot to do this so... [link] [comments]

Time Machine works horrible for me. Is there a fix? Posted: 25 May 2020 10:29 AM PDT Good day. Here is my setup: - MBP 16 1tb - Keenetic Giga router (it's a widespread brand name here, ex-zyxel something) - HDD, a Seagate 4TB divided in 2 partitions. It was first formatted with Disk Utility to HFS+ (GUID), then split up to same HFS+ for Time Machine partition (3tb) and NTFS partition for media sharing (1tb). I set up my router to share HDD with both AFP or SMB (I can choose), it has dedicated Time Machine support through all the menus so it should be fine. On initial sync TM never actually finishes. It takes like 8 hours to sync up to 400 gb with WiFi, then it stops and I get a "Time Machine must create a new backup" message. It then starts over with no luck. I spent several days googling and it seems really common. Although all fixes (I don't know if they work though) were made in preCatalina time. As I understand, Catalina has changed the way TM files are named (no more .sparcebundle files) so I can't even try. I even had a chat with Apple Support, they advised to check disk with Disk Utility (it's fine) and try again (did not work). Soooo... is there any way I can fix it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 25 May 2020 10:06 AM PDT I'm stuck in a country where Apple store is closed due to the current situation. My Mac Air was bought a year ago. It's pretty new. However now I'm having an issue. I will provide the link for the pictures: https://imgur.com/gallery/njvSdwJ I don't know what to do. I am worried that once Apple opens here, they'll want to replace the entire a screen so that will be almost the same price as my laptop. Did anyone have similar issue? [link] [comments]
