Posted: 14 May 2020 02:49 PM PDT The macbooks we use are 2018 15in MBP, and there is an "Administrator" Profile, and my profile that has Admin rights. They let us keep the macbook but there is alot of bloatware from IT that i dont mind getting rid of. Given that there are two profiles, and I have no idea what the password is for the proper "Administrator" position is, would it be wise to continue factory resetting? Will I need to know that profiles password at some point? Dont want to end up with a brick is all. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 08:01 PM PDT I currently have a 2016 15" MBP 16GB men i7, and was thinking of upgrading to a 16" 32GB mem i9. I'm going to be a fourth year CS major in Fall. Some of the problems I have with my 15" is the battery life isn't too good, and it can't always handle multiple apps running. I was thinking of upgrading or possibly waiting till the 2021 model come out. Thoughts? [link] [comments]
MacBook Air 2020 (i5) fans crazy loud with google chrome? Posted: 14 May 2020 11:43 PM PDT This is my very first MacBook, or apple computer in general. Google Chrome is my browser of choice, but it makes my fans work so hard and so loud I can't continue to use it. Have others had this problem? I am currently using safari and having no fan volume issues. I know Chrome is a very poorly optimized program and is very resource hungry, but is there something I can do about it? Thanks :) (pls be gentle I am very new when it comes to apple products) [link] [comments]
Covers designed to dispel heat and protect your lap? Posted: 14 May 2020 10:56 PM PDT My Macbook gets warm over time, and also I'd like more of a barrier between my lap and the computer. I tried searching for something but I can't get anywhere. Has anyone else found a solution for this? I guess the best object might be the perfect sized book but I want something that attaches. Selling liquid damaged MacBook - SSD data? Posted: 14 May 2020 12:34 PM PDT I bought a new base model MacBook Air, didn't get Apple care, and spilled coffee on it ðŸ˜. Got a quote for repair but the cost wouldn't be worth it bc of logic board damage as well as a broken speaker they are unable to source parts for. I'm planning on selling it for parts to recoup some of the costs. Should I have any concerns about data on the SSD when selling for parts? I had a password and file vault enabled, so I don't think someone could get data off it... but figured this could be a good place to see if I'm missing something. [link] [comments]
What would specs for a 2020 MacBook Pro 16" look like? Need your hardware expertise! Posted: 14 May 2020 07:30 PM PDT Hey guys! I'm running on a mid-2014 MBP 13" that helped get me through university, but definitely shows its age in terms of performance for some of the workloads I now have. I'm looking at upgrading to a 16" MacBook Pro but find myself wondering if it's worth waiting for perhaps a 2020 spec bump/refresh for this model. I'm not the most up-to-date or knowledgable about computer hardware like the latest Intel CPU and AMD GPU developments, so I was hoping someone here could peek at some of my questions here. I assume if it is coming this year, Apple will throw in the Intel 10th-gen equivalent processor to its current 9th-gen internals found in the 16" MacBook Pro. The top of the line CPU being the i9-10980HK v.s. i9-9980HK. The base clock for the newer 10th-gen Intel processor seems to be the same at 2.4GHz, with the difference in just the Turbo frequency being raised from 9th-gen @ 5.0GHz to 10th-gen at 5.3GHz. Although a bump in generation, both are still on Intel's 14nm process. I've also read posts that say 10th-gen is probably only 5-10% performance boost compared to 9th-gen (as far as the CPUs that would be in 16" MBP). Is this an accurate take? I know on paper the base clock is the same and turbo frequency is marginally better, but are there anything more behind the scenes in the spec sheets that indicate 10th-gen might be a good deal more performant than initially looks? I've also seen people dismiss the 10th-gen as well because it runs hotter? I'm less sure as far as a dedicated GPU. I think the successors to the AMD 5500M found in the 16" MacBook Pro are the 5600M and 5700M. Compared to the Intel CPU 10th-gen vs 9th-gen, the AMD GPU seems to be more of a performance difference between the older 5500M and newer 5600/5700M? Some other posts I've seen say that the newer 10th-gen CPU's support faster memory LPDDR4 3733MHz versus the current 16" MacBook Pro that has DDR4 2666MHz. But I've seen other posts say that LPDDR4 would actually be slower because the bandwidth is lesser than DDR4? The last thing I can think of is that a 2020 refresh 16" MBP might include WiFi 6 (because now the 10th-gen Intel CPUs support it) which I've read some people disregard as not really needed until a few years out, but still nice to have in a expensive machine like the 16" MBP. Then again, the 13" MBP just dropped and doesn't include WiFi 6 support even with 10th-gen Intel CPU models, so maybe there's some Apple reasoning for not doing so (though the new cheap iPhone SE 2020 does!) Oh and maybe an update to the current 720p webcam? That's definitely not essential but another nice to have for the price point. So then again comes to if the 16" MacBook Pro will even be refreshed this year by Apple. I've seen some articles pretty much write out what a 16" MBP 2020 would look like (just updated 10th-gen CPU, AMD GPU, and WiFi 6). But then I've seen other commenters say the available offerings this year for parts that could be upgraded in a refresh (Intel CPU), is such a small performance difference that this could be a year to skip a spec refresh, so that the next 16" refresh would be in 2021. For those familiar with MacBook refreshes throughout the years, does Apple ever skip a year if it seems like the the current upgrade offerings are so negligible? Then there's the recent update on miniLED in MacBook 16" with delays in production pushing it back to 2021 - that's the miniLED model, but would there likely be just a normal spec refresh this year regardless? I'm trying to flesh out my thinking before making one of the bigger purchases I've ever made, and some rumors are even being passed around that they might announce another MacBook Pro at WWDC that would most likely be a 16" refresh because the 13" just launched and rumored 14" is on miniLED which is reportedly delayed to next year. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 07:29 PM PDT Hey All, Here is my issue. My Macbook Air wont stay connected to my wifi, but every other device in the house works perfectly fine. The signal never shows as being off, but I keep getting messages about not resolving server, "waiting for connection" etc. If I turn off the wifi, then turn it back on the webpages will load instantly, but then the signal always stops within about 30 second after that. Ive tried the following:
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to try next. The biggest confusion is that everything else works in the house. [link] [comments]

I need help deciding where/what MacBook to buy for only one year Posted: 14 May 2020 07:02 PM PDT I go to a school where everyone is assigned a chrome book that is connected through the school for everything so the teachers can monitor it. I've taken a couple college classes on these chrome books and let me tell you, I hate them. I know I want to get a MacBook for my summer college classes and for my college classes next year. However my family has a tradition that after we graduate you spend your graduation money on a new MacBook for college and I'm going into senior year now so I'd only need a MacBook for one year. The reason I want one is because we are turning in our chrome books and so I'll need a computer for the summer college classes anyway. I was looking into getting a 2015 MacBook online from a place called Back Market. I didn't know if this was reliable or if this computer would even still work in 2020 as I know some Macs only last 5ish years. Please help me if you know a good MacBook I could buy that wouldn't just be the equivalent of spending 1200 if you know what I mean. Thank you so much for reading/helping. [link] [comments]
Old Water Damaged 2013 Macbook Pro Question Posted: 14 May 2020 06:22 PM PDT I have a old 2013 macbook pro that's broken due to a 8oz glass of water being spilled on top on the keyboard. This was caused by a family member and they turned it off, did their best to drain the water (upside down, fan, etc.) and it's been about 2 years since that happened. I plugged the mac in just to see what the chances are and the magsafe light does the green --> orange. It doesn't turn on with the power button though. I did do a SMC reset with the keyboard and the magsafe light did change, indicating that it detected it. Does anyone have an idea if there's even a slight chance this thing will work again? I spilt water on my 2013 MacBook. Pray for me people of the Internet. Posted: 14 May 2020 06:04 PM PDT Today I was sitting at my desk and I knocked over my water cup that spilt on top of my keyboard and the vents where the monitor and underside of the MacBook Pro meet. I Immediately turned it upside down so that the water would come out from underneath the keyboard. My biggest mistake was that I didn't turn the MacBook off but I kept using it because it seemed fine. The display started twitching very minimally and I was concerned. Eventually the entire display turned off. Instead of putting it in front of a fan and letting it dry I would try to power the MacBook on but still no response from the display. I have it sitting upside down and I'm going to wait the 24 hours to turn it back on. I really hope nothing was shorted within the circuit. I've seen a lot of success threads on forums so I'm going to stay positive. It sucks because I have finals coming up and I really need my MacBook to work. [link] [comments]
Should i go with ssd or more ram for my MacBook pro mid 2012? Posted: 14 May 2020 05:58 PM PDT Recently i got into programming and i need to be on latest version of macos and xcode but Catalina is extremely slow. I couldn't even get my simulator to run so I've downgraded to high Sierra for now. So the question is what will make more difference. Upgraded ram or ssd (hdd installed currently)? I can't go with both cause I'm kinda tight on money rn because of this whole virus thing. My specs are 4gb ram (ugh i know), 500gb hdd. Thanks [link] [comments]

Close a certain app on Macbook Posted: 14 May 2020 04:28 PM PDT I work in coding, and the test platform we use has a multitude of bugs if you edit the code while having it open. And swapping between the two to continuously close them is a pain. Is there any way to assign a macro or something to a command, lets say CMD+9 to close a certain app, if it is open, and only that app? [link] [comments]

Questions about the old and curious torch behind the Apple effect Posted: 14 May 2020 02:51 PM PDT Hello, I'm still rocking a 2010 15" Macbook Pro and whilst it's fought a brilliant battle against time, it is starting to slowly die and I'm looking to upgrade (most likely to the 2020 Air, I dislike the touchbar). I have two questions about a strange 'fix' that could be done on the older laptops like this one with a lit Apple logo at the back. This works as follows: occasionally, if the computer has crashed and restarted, something will go wrong and it'll restart but the screen will be off. So you've essentially got a laptop that is on but the screen is black (and by black I mean off, no backlight). This happens often to me now due to the laptop's age. Worryingly, sometimes a forced restart doesn't fix the issue and it just reboots black again. A fix to this that I am sure many of you know is to shine a bright light (flashlight, phone torch...) through the Apple logo at the back. Then weirdly, you can see the loading screen, as if the torch is faintly powering that portion of the screen. You can then move the cursor around till it's visible, click the user, enter password, hit enter, and boom, not too long after the screen switches on. My two questions are:

Posted: 14 May 2020 02:39 PM PDT Hi all, When opening my Macbook Pro, the screen turns black after it is completely vertical (at a right angle with the keyboard). I cant open my laptop any farther than that without it turning black. The keyboard stays lit. Anyone know how to fix? [link] [comments]
Posted: 14 May 2020 02:25 PM PDT Hello everyone, is it currently sensible to purchase an MBP 16 " from the 2019 revision or will there be a refresh this year? I am planing to buy a new laptop this year and would therefore also invest in expensive components because I am doing work intensive stuff. Question arises whether it is currently worth buying or whether a new revision will be launched in 2020? [link] [comments]
Is the touchbar really worth it? Posted: 14 May 2020 01:15 PM PDT I am considering the MacBook air i5 and MacBook pro i5 (baseline) and the only thing keeping me split is the touchbar. I'm mostly using the laptop for school and something like Roblox for my friends, so I don't need a power house, but I don't know if the MacBooks air lightness and thinness would be worth it since it doesn't have the touch bar. I never really use the function keys and it honestly looks kind of nice to have something to hang up on zoom calls with easier and just looks more convenient. So? Is the touchbar worth spending the extra money for? [link] [comments] |
