    I need a laptop for mostly university (business major) & some video editing. I have been leaning towards the MacBook Air. I'm just stuck on which I should get, should I save that 200$ and buy the one with i3 processor or the i5 processor? Is the difference that big? Will it last for a minimum 5 years?

    Any 16" MBP updates prior to WWDC 2020?

    I'm looking to replace my 2015 13" MBP with a newer 16" as I could really use a bigger screen. In the past, I seem to recall Apple occasionally updating their MBPs during WWDC. Has anyone heard any rumors as to whether they might do a minor update next month or should I go ahead and buy one now? I know the next major update might be to an OLED display but that's not supposed to happen until 2021. Thanks.

    Macbook Air 2020 or Macbook Pro 8th Gen 2020?

    At my budget, air has 10th gen processor and 512gb ssd. Whereas, pro has 8th Gen i5 and 256gb ssd.

    Which one has better perfomance? I plan to use it for photoshop, light video editing and rendering, microsoft office, movies and web surfing.

    Which one should I go for?

    Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit to post on so please redirect me if so.

    I love my macbook air, and have had it for almost 8 years. I tried the new macbook pro 2019 but then resold it because I didn't like the keyboad (it's not the pushy kinds and writing notes fast was hard) and it kept overheating too much. My air also heats up, but not as much as the pro. I decided to stick with my air but was wondering how long do I expect to last or when should I start looking for another laptop? I was thinking of getting the new iPad Pro with the pencil and keyboard to act as a laptop (I like that I can write my notes on there by hand) but I'm also wondering if there's laptop functions I can't do on the iPad? I'm not doing anything hardcore, but I want something to last. My past iPads have not lasted very long so I'm not sure if the investment is worth it. How can I make my macbook air last longer?

    Can anyone give me some advice? Thank you :)

    Internet slows down when using bluetooth peripherals Macbook Air 2019 Catalina

    I like to sit out back with my Macbook Air which is a bit far from the router, at first I thought I was too far away. But with a bit more testing I realized that as soon as I connect my Logitech MX Anywhere 2s mouse, or Pixel Buds (Gen 1), the internet speed slows. It goes from 20 Mbps to < 10 Mbps. If I connect both, the speed is < 5 Mbps.

    Is this expected? Anything I could do about this?

    Mid-2012 MBP 4K external display after 10.15.5 update

    Unexpected and nice surprise today - after sticking with 10.15.1 for a while, I finally got the latest version of Catalina.

    I always thought my external resolution was capped at 1440p... it's what the spec says.

    Suddenly, my 4K external display is showing true 4K, albeit 30Hz and GPU acceleration, using a straight Mini Displayport to Displayport cable.

    NICE.

    ASUS VP28U:

    Resolution: 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 - Ultra High Definition)

    UI Looks like: 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz

    How can I get make my MacBook faster?

    Hey! So I've been doing research. I have the 2015 MacBook Pro 15 inch, 16GB RAM and 250GB of storage (only have 80GB left). It's possible for me to change out the SSD right and maybe put 1 or 2TB in there? Am I able to go to the apple store and they can do that for me? Also, will that make my MacBook run faster? I plan on editing videos with final cut pro, so will my MacBook be able to work efficiently if I up my storage? I know I can't change my RAM.

    Macbook Pro 13" 2020 Vs Macbook Air 13" 2020

    I was thinking on buying one of these two macbooks. I generally use programs such as autocad and 3d drawings of houses (generally with many details such as lighting, textures, etc.). Is the power of the macbook air enough to support heavy programs like autocad, tinkercad at the same time?

    I need some help formatting with a broken screen.

    I'm asking for help with my Mac. Recently my screen was broken and now I'm going to sell it but I need to delete everything. I tried using a type-c to hdmi cable so I can use an external monitor but when I do the command to delete the hard drive I am stuck at s grey screen with only the mouse. Is there a solution or another method to delete everything?

    SMC Reset not working

    Hello, i'm trying to do an SMC reset on my Macbook Air however when I do the keys (Shift + Control + Option + power button) it doesn't do the reset and thinks I just want to turn on the laptop normally as soon as I hit the power key. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

    So I'm pretty into fixing up and modding old iPods and computers and things... and something (arguably dumb or brilliant) came to mind. Does anyone here know if a flash mod for the original few models of MacBook Air have been done yet? Thinking back, they used the same hard drive as the iPod classics so with the amount of kits for those you'd think someone would have done that (I think Apple sold an ssd option but that's neither here nor there) anyway, I kinda want to buy an old air to test this but don't want to spend too much in case it has been attempted but didn't work and I haven't found much on the subject as of yet... what do you all think? Worth trying or would it be too far in the clouds?

    MBP Base Configuration Opinions !

    Hi everyone!

    I'm looking at the MBP 2020 base model and unfortunately need the 512 GB configuration based on my current use case.

    Should I also upgrade to 16gb ram? I've been watching my current usage and it never surpasses 6gb, but will 8gb be an issue down the line?

    If I add the 16gb the price is super close to the 1799 option which I really just don't need.

    Edit: I will mainly be using the computer for video conferencing, schoolwork, and internet browsing and occasionally (rarely) photoshop. I want to stay away from the MBA.

    Macbook advice for multicam editing

    Hi,

    I edit up to 6 Full HD H264 streams + separate audio track, in FCPX. The material comes from cheap action cameras, so quality is relatively low. I believe the bitrate is around 50mbps. I might upgrade to 4k (or 2.7k) in the future but this not really a requirement, more like a "nice to have".

    I also do basic 2D animations in Motion and use these in my FCPX workflow.

    I don't do these kinds of projects very often, so export time is not very important. I do need playback to be smooth. I don't want to spend time converting videos to ProRes or other formats for smoother playback.

    I don't really care about display size or quality, since most of the time I will be editing using an external display. Keyboard is important though, so I don't want a butterfly keyboard.

    What kind of machine would I need to handle this? Is the base 16" i7 macbook pro enough? Is it overkill? Would the i9 be more suitable? Would the GPU make a difference? Would a 13" MBP handle it?
