Apple Macbook I posted a while ago, but here is the video. The touch bar (MacBook Pro 13 inch 2019) does not light up automatically, I have to touch the trackpad, when the lid of the Mac is opened. Anyone can confirm? Thought this video might might make it clearer.

    Macbook Shipping Dates

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:46 PM PDT

I recently purchased a new 2020 Macbook Pro 13" as well as a Pro 16" from the Apple website. The delivery dates I received were for mid July. How firm have these estimated dates been that Apple provides? Is there any chance that they could ship earlier?

Looking for advice with new MacBook.

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:30 PM PDT

Hi there, just wondering if I could get some advice for a new MacBook. I was looking at the base model MacBook Air but upgrading the cpu to the i5 and the ram to 16gb. My use is currently mainly school work (zoom, google docs, word) and I also dabble in a bit of java and web design. I would only be using IntelliJ and Visual Studio Code for my coding. I am only learning and I wouldnt be making many large scale projects on my laptop. I was wondering if I could get some advice from owners / people with knowledge if this would be enough for my work style?

    Which One is Better?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:16 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I am trying to figure out which MacBook Pro to purchase while being economical.

    The choices are:

    Apple MacBook Pro 2018 15" Touch Bar i7 16GB 4.1GHz 256GB MR932LL/A Space Gray: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164032586157

    Or

    The new MacBook Pro 13inch i5 16gb RAM 512 SSD: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-macbook-pro-13-display-with-touch-bar-intel-core-i5-16gb-memory-512gb-ssd-latest-model-space-gray/6287726.p?skuId=6287726

The screen size does not matter nor does the storage amount. Trying to decide which one will be more appropriate for the future. Or just in general, which one has more power and can do more?

    I appreciate your support!

Replace lid or upgrade in a year?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:16 PM PDT

I have a 2019 base model MacBook Air. However, when I got it, I didn't think I would need any case for it and I didn't get Apple Care (bad decision). Unfortunately, It has a gnarly scratch in the middle of the lid, and damage on the upper right bezel even though I am very gentle with it. Recently it fell and the lid on the lower left corner bent. This has caused the corner screen to become lighter in contrast to the rest of the screen. I am thinking of either saving up to upgrade in a year or so to replace my MacBook with something higher spec with Apple Care and a case. Not to mention the model I have has the butterfly keyboard. My other option would be to get the lid and screen replaced as it would be much less expensive and my MacBook is still fairly new. I am here looking for advice as to what to do

    What MacBook pro to get?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I am thinking of updating from my 2014 MacBook as I want to start programming in python & java as well as using logic pro x to make music professionally. Should I buy the base 8th gen model with 16gb RAM or just buy the 10th gen model which comes with 16gb of RAM. In either case, the SSD size doesn't matter since I'll have to store things on an external drive anyway. I am also an Engineering student and would be doing a lot of things relating to that on the laptop.

I am trying to decide between buying a 2017 MacBook Pro and 2019 MacBook Air. Both 13”. Which do you guys think is a better buy?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 09:40 PM PDT

The MBP 2017: found used by an unknown person 2017 13" Retina MacBook Pro, No-Touchbar / 2.3 GHz, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB Ram. Few minor nicks. There is a fairly decent sized nick that chipped part of the aluminum. $700

The MBA 2019: refurbished from Apple 13" 1.6GHz dual core intel i5 Retina display and True Tone $789

    MacBook Pro 2013 13 inch - 350?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 08:15 PM PDT

Hi guys, I was looking for some input if buying a MacBook Pro 2013 for 350 is a good price?

In the subscription the seller stated it has 8g RAM and 225 gb SSD, and 220 cycles

I mostly need this for college and portability and it seem to fit my criteria.

Is this a good deal or should I just keep looking?

My external HDrive isn’t detected by my MacBook

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:25 PM PDT

Hello there, fellow redditors! I just got my first MacBook ever (Pro, 2019, 13", 256GB) and I'm loving it so far. Since I'm a student, I have an external hard drive that I use a lot in order to keep some files organised and all that jazz. However, when I plug it to my MacBook in order to use it... I can't seem to be able to do so. It was only detected once and that was it. When I plug it to my MB via a USB-C to USB 3.0 dongle, the light stays still and doesn't blink at all, which usually happens when it's working properly. Now, I need to access some of the stuff I have there and I can't because the computer doesn't detect it.

I have used it before on a Windows laptop, yes, but the writing's already on exFAT format, which makes the whole not-working-situation kind of odd, in my view.

So, my question is: How can I solve this - if there's any solution at all?

    Thank you! :-)

2020 MacBook Air vs 2020 MacBook Pro

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:53 PM PDT

My current device is a base level 2015 MacBook Pro with i5/8gb ram/128gb storage, it has been running fine but I have run into limitations with storage and the battery life has degraded to < 1 hr.

I am looking into buying a new device for college and beyond that will last me another 5 years like my current one one did and I am stricken between two choices: buying the 2020 MacBook Air i5/16gb ram/512 gb storage for $1499, or buying the 2020/2019 MacBook Pro with i5/16gb ram/512 gb storage for $1599.

My tasks include browsing the web using firefox with ~100 tabs; using Microsoft Office and OneNote; coding using the jetbrains suite in python, java, c++, reactjs/react-native; and running docker and postgresql.

The screen, speakers, and ports do not matter too much to me. I have heard that the Air has some cooling issues, but the Pro has older chips and I don't know what suits my needs best. I want to avoid buying used since there are only a few scissor keyboard devices on the market and I do not want to switch to a non UNIX-based OS.

Is a macbook pro 2020 base model right for me?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:03 PM PDT

    Hello!

First-time poster. I've never owned a mac before. I'm looking to get my first one after saving. My use is using slack, emails, zoom calls etc. I would like to be able to use Spotify while using a web browser with many tabs open. I'd like a computer that can handle multiple applications open and not heat up or go sluggish.

So will the base model with 8GB of ram handle this? Will I suffer heating issues when using it on my lap? With the 256GB hard drive, how much space do I have to use, I.e how much does the OS use?

Will 2019 usb c adapters you can find on amazon work with the 2020 macbook pro? Something like this ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NPPJWR9/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=AIB4PHFW6GCJ4&psc=1 )

    Thanks for your time!

    Which one should I get?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 06:08 PM PDT

I'm a STEM major college student. My first laptop was the 2015 model macbook air. It was a great device but I didn't like how the thin part of the macbook (the lower end where you rest your wrist while typing). After that one, I went for the macbook pro and it feels so much better when I rest my wrist on it and when I hold it, the device just feels more even. However, the new macbook air and pros with the magic keyboard just came out and I'm conflicted on which one to get. The macbook air has the gold colored option and I fell in love with the color when I saw it. But I really don't like the thin part. And the macbook pro doesn't have the gold option. So which one should I get?

    Very specific question

    Posted: 08 May 2020 05:51 PM PDT

So I spilled water my MacBook Air(bought in 2014). The Wifi doesn't work anymore but everything else is fine. I use Ethernet through a USB conversion cord to get Internet.

Recently I found out about Wifi Adapters. They also can hook up through the USB port on my MacBook.

My question is would they still work on my MacBook even though the Wifi on my laptop has stopped working? I wanna make sure it would work before I buy a Wifi adapter on Amazon.

Thanks to anyone who knows the answer to this

    Lost dates on photos

    Posted: 08 May 2020 05:37 PM PDT

I'm not sure where to post this, but I'm working on a MacBook so hopefully there's an answer out there. I recently transferred all my photos from SD cards, old computer, and an old hard drive to a new hard drive. All the downloads now say the created date is the date I transferred them and not the date they were actually created. I have some of the same photos downloaded to the photo app on my MacBook and they have the correct date. I like to put my photos in folders by years and now they all say 2020. Is there a way to get the right dates to show up? Also I tried again and now a lot of the photos have duplicates, is there a way I can get rid of all the duplicates at once instead of going through everything to delete them?

    Which Macbook for sims 3/4?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 05:32 PM PDT

    Hey there,

So my sister has a pretty terrible macbook at the moment (I dont even know the type of port the charger is, its that old) , she is currently a nurse and is super stressed right now due to Covid. I can't see her etc either, so she's pretty isolated so the best I thought I could do right now is buy her a new laptop because at least then she can feel a little better connected.

I wondered if the new Macbook Air 2020 would be okay for her to play the sims 3 or 4 on? There is also one for sale on ebay that is a 2015 Macbook - MF841LL/A that i thought may be a bit better? I thought this for ease as it has ports on it she'll know.

She isn't a heavy computer user, probably browsing clothes, amazon shop etc. She also isn't known for knowing how to look after a laptop in terms of updates etc. So she really doesn't need anything super strong i'd say.

Thank you all for your advice and I hope you are all safe.

Should I trade in my 2018 13" MBP for 2020 MBA?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:26 PM PDT

I am loving my device but the keyboard and feel of the entire device seems clunky.

I currently have the 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB of ram

If I buy the 1.2. GHz i7 and 16 GB will I notice a huge difference?

    Thanks Guys

    MBP 18 upgrade?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:52 PM PDT

Guys I have the 2018 MacBook pro with 512 gb. I like it and i have had small issues with double space but managed to fix it. For me the keyboard is fine. I have gotten used to it. i bought it for 2.3k USD and i wanted to sell it for 1.150 so 50% off and then buy the 2020 one for 2.3k again? (i live in Denmark so that is the price). i like it and see no need to upgrade but kinda i want to do it incase my keyboard fails me one day. better do it now that later? or should i just wait till its broken? (I'm a student so the budget is kinda tight)

Help buying replacement R key for MacBook 2019 Two Port 13 inch?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:46 PM PDT

    Hey everyone!

My R key popped up this morning and doesn't seem to wanna click back down. I don't really wanna try and force it down and bust it, and am looking to order a replacement key since I can't go into the Apple Store due to COVID-19 restrictions.

I tried finding a replacement key and quickly noticed there are a ton of different versions and am having an issue identifying which one I need to order. Can anyone help me out? Here is the underside of key that I can easily see without prying. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Random frame/refresh rate dips using external display (TV)

    Posted: 08 May 2020 09:32 AM PDT

I have my MacBook Pro 16'' hooked up to my 4K TV on default scaling for the TV. After about 5-10 minutes, my TV goes to a refresh rate between 15-30hz. It's very ugly to use. If I refresh the display settings (change to Mirror or Extend, etc.) it goes back, but after a while always returns to the terrible frame rate.

    Is this the GPU's fault?

    MacBook Pro on a monitor

    Posted: 08 May 2020 12:55 PM PDT

    MACBOOK ON A MONITOR

IVe somehow just come to the realisation this would be useful to me, so I was wondering if I could get as much info as I can about hooking up the MacBook to an external monitor •Which of the new 2020s will be good at doing this? •Will the base model have any problems performing this function? •How long can you actually utilise it as a desktop before it over heats? If it overheats? I'm honestly clueless, •Also is it connected via hdmi? Thunderbolt ?

~> Specs and monitor recommendations for this would be very useful aswel! Thank you
