MacBook Pro 16 Full Charge Capacity 89%

MacBook Pro 16 Full Charge Capacity 89%

Hey just looking for some viewpoints on the battery capacity of my Macbook - I purchased in January and initially the battery drained quite quickly; it's since settled and doesn't seem as bad. My concern now is the 89% full charge capacity that is shown in the screenshot. I think I understand that batteries deplete over time, i'm just not sure if I should be concerned at losing 11% of total battery capacity 4 months into using it. Any suggestions on whether its worth talking to Apple - I read somewhere that if a battery capacity falls to 80% Apple will replace it free of charge (possibly only if you purchased AppleCare+). Obviously i'm not at 80% yet, but I do wonder what Apple might say...

    Any help much appreciated, cheers!

    Replacing my old MBP15 2015

    Posted: 08 May 2020 06:08 AM PDT

Thinking to replace my 4 yo MBP15 i7 with new MacBook, but new 16 inch model is above my budget. So I thought I might consider getting a new Air i7 16GB RAM 1TB SSD instead. Should I expect noticeable performance degradation? I don't play games so Iris video card is fine. I am using external 4K display and mostly use office, zoom, slack, vsc.

2 questions about voiceover for macbook

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:51 AM PDT

    1. All of the online guides say that cmd + f5 activates voiceover. However, when I press command + f5 nothing happens. (my f5 is on the touch screen) (when I press command + f5 + fn, still nothing happens)

    2. Is there a way to toggle the voiceover settings such that it only announces the current app, or the current document that I am in?

For example, toggle opera, it says opera. Toggle vscode, it says vscode. Toggle a document in vscode, it says the name of the document, and doesn't read off anything else.

    Thanks for the help!

    Bash very laggy with history?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 04:50 AM PDT

I'm using an early 2015 MBP with max specs (dual core CPU) and I've noticed the bash terminal can be very laggy compared to regular Linux distros, specifically when hitting the up key to show the last used command(s). When rapidly pressing it, it can take 1/3 of a second to load the next one, which can be very annoying and sloppy for something that should be and is usually lightning fast.

What could be the cause of this? Is this normal behaviour on these models of MBP or is something wrong?

Will Apple now only bring out Macbook Pros with Touchbar?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 03:43 AM PDT

I absolutely despise the touchbar. I currently own the 2016 Macbook Pro without the touchbar and it's getting slow. I really want the quad core but I will not settle with a touchbar.

Might have to go with the Macbook Air 2020. Will there be a big difference in performance?

    Upgrade form my 2013 air?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 11:19 PM PDT

I am thinking about buying a new MacBook. My Air is from 2013. and it's my only pc because I got addicted to league of legends and had to give away my gaming pc to stop myself from fucking up my life and lawschool.

Now, I am not sure if I should buy an Air again or go with the new pro (bad configuration, in both cases) m

All I use my MacBook for is browsing the Internet, having it plugged to an ultrawide screen, working in essays, doing office work, editing photos from my mirrorless, and so On (No video editing or so)

What should I go with? Or should I keep my Air from 2013 wich works perfectly fine, but turns on the fans when I am on skype for buisness haha

I want to keep the new machine for as long as possible btw

Macbook Pro 2020: difference in speaker quality between models?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 02:42 AM PDT

Is there still a difference between the two- and the four-thunderbolt ports model in terms of speakers? As far as I know the entry-level model of last year had slightly inferior speakers in terms of quality...

    Which device is more powerful?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 10:53 PM PDT

I've been hearing a lot of people complaining about how the new MBPs base model has a 8th gen processor and how all Laptops should have a 10th gen processor now. Is there really a big difference?

    MB Specs Confusion

    Posted: 07 May 2020 06:47 PM PDT

    Laptop Air ($1300) Pro ($1300)
    RAM 8GB 3733MHz LPDDR4X 8GB 2133MHz LPDDR3
    SSD 1.1GHz quad-core 10th-gen i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.5GHz 1.4GHz quad‑core 8th‑gen i5, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz
    Battery ~11 hrs ~10 hrs

According to the major specs, the new Air beats the new Pro in nearly every way. But according to some reviews I've watched, people still recommend the Pro and say it has better performance than the Air. How is this possible when the Air has faster memory and a newer chip?

Macbook Air vs Macbook Pro in 2020

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:55 AM PDT

I'm looking for a new macbook. I will open 8-16 tabs in safari, coding (C, C++, Python, Fortran and MPI) and data analysis (IDL and Paraview), reading, writing documents using latex and playing song. I need a quite and cool machine. Which one will be fine? 2020 i5 Macbook Air or 2020 i5 (8th gen) Macbook Pro base model. I'm also looking to do some xcode development if possible.

    Question: MacBook Pro adapters

    Posted: 07 May 2020 08:39 PM PDT

So I have a MacBook Pro 2017 and I just got a monitor and a Thunderbolt to HDMI cable. The issue is that I have an iPad that I like to use for sidecar and it works better via USB. The problem is that The MacBook bro only has Two ports, so I wouldn't be able to charge my Mac when using it, so I was wondering if anyone knew where to get an adapter to have more USB type C ports.

    Magic Keyboard vs Butterfly Keyboard?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 07:54 PM PDT

Can someone explain the magic keyboard vs the butterfly keyboard?

I have a Macbook Pro Retina Late-2013 model and the one thing stopping me from upgrading all these years was hating the keyboard of the newer models. My roommate has the 2019 Macbook Air and I absolutely loathe the keyboard. I assume that's the butterfly keyboard.

Is the "magic keyboard" any more similar to the model I have right now?

    Problems with new MacBook

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:00 PM PDT

So I just got my MacBook Air 2020 and I noticed that the left speaker is very high pitched and sounds like a high frequency sometimes but it usually fades out as I'm listening to music but it's still very annoying.

Second problem is that the two finger scrolling is VERY choppy I expected it to be very smooth on a $1300 machine.

Did I get a faulty unit or is this expected on a Mac?

    MacBook Pro Color Preference

Will an ARM MBP (if it happens) come out in the Spring or Fall 2021? Could it come Fall 2020?

    Posted: 07 May 2020 11:25 AM PDT

This is all obviously just speculation, but I need to get a new laptop soon and don't want to feel like I should've just waited for the ARM Macbook Pros. I'm not familiar with how Apple handles releases. My guess is that they make big updates to the Macbook Pro line in Fall and smaller ones in Spring? Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyways, if you had to guess, when would an ARM-based MBP come out?

    Owners of 16in MacBook Pros

    Posted: 07 May 2020 01:51 PM PDT

Are you guys having any issues with your laptops? Are the general problems pretty much ironed out this far into the release? Would it be ok to buy the 16in MacBook Pro now or wait? Is the 2nd gen coming out in the Fall? Do they usually have less issues than the 1st gen of the product?

Forgive me for all the questions.
