| Posted: 13 May 2020 09:07 PM PDT The iPhone is a few rooms over, however not bad enough for signal strength to be an issue, and it doesn't seem to behave differently when I move it close. And it's highly intermittent - most days I can pull 300/150 all over the house, but some days the phone and iPad are slow, the Mac laptop is never slow. It's a Netgear AC router, a few years old but perfectly modern and normally functions great. It just does this once in a while. The Apple TV is also in the living room and on the same wifi and seldom has a problem. Right this moment, I've got Spotify on my iPad airplaying to the Apple TV and it's choppy as hell; again, normally I an airplay to it from any device anywhere in the house no problem. The fact that it's on the iPad as well as the iPhone is the only reason I suspect the problem is external to the phone. Can someone recommend a starting point for troubleshooting this? Posted: 13 May 2020 08:40 PM PDT I have a 2012 macpro running osx 10.12 and I also have a set of Klipsch speakers that are 2 speakers and one sub. Whenever my air conditioning flips on it causes the speakers to make a single bad "pop" noise. This also happens when I have something like a small fan plugged in near the computer and I turn the fan on. The speakers are plugged into the rear headphone jack on the computer. It seems to be some kind of electrical surge that creates this. Despite the fact that I have everything plugged into a surge protector/battery back up. It has to have something to do with the tower or the audio card in the tower I think. Same setup and speakers on my iMac never had this problem. Is there any way to stop this? Thanks! Nothing is on do not disturb and I've checked other settings. I've been in the message app and watch conversations update the most recent message but with no unread dot or vibrate. She comes to my apartment and says this to my dad who then slams the door in her face and they both call 911 and have some cops come down here. I know its impossible that we have them since i've only left the apartment in the last two weeks to go get ice and go to the post office and my dad hates earbuds and owns industrial size headphones that cost like 300 dollars. He's also pretty old and wasn't even aware of what air pods were and i know he would never pick up random ear buds on the ground. My question is, how can she know its in my apartment? There's two apartments below me and one above me. I'm not really scared of anything happening since i know we don't have them. Also is this a glitch that happens? edit: were also both android users so none of us have iphones in the house to set off that Ifind alert. [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 13 May 2020 06:59 PM PDT Looking for some assistance: I have a 2019 12 inch Macbook. 16G RAM, 500G SSD i5 on Catalina 10.15.4 I'm connected to a display, ASUS PA24AC 24.1" (16:10) Monitor WUXGA 1920 x 1200 HDR using a Hyperdrive https://www.hypershop.com/collections/usb-c-hubs/products/hyperdrive-solo-hub-for-usb-c-macbook-pc-devices?variant=890945634329 Sometimes I connect with HDMI other times with USBC to the external display. I have a home network totally built on Unifi platform and my laptop now consistently gets -54 dBm signal on a 2.4 Ghz channel. I'm consistently getting 150 Mbs down with 10 up. Latency ping to google.com is generally under 50 ms usually like 10 or 20 ms. Things run smooth right up until I run Go To Meeting, or google (not sure the video conference name) and things start to get weird. Audio breaking up, video has delays, but all inconsistently. I thought it was a bluetooth issue, so switched to a Plantronics USB wired headset connected to the Hyperdrive but after 2-4 hours things seem to get worse. Best performance seems to be in the morning just driving the display from hyperdrive and HDMI using AirPod Pro for audio for conference calls. I'm starting to think my laptop isn't powerful enough to drive the external monitor and the video calls? I've definitely gotten the 'laptop has to throttle message' but not every time I encounter issues. I'm also consistently running 5 tabs of Safari, 1-5 tabs on Chrome, Outlook, Notes, Messages, Mail, Teams, and Stocks. Generally never had performance issues before but I never use to do this much video conferencing. Do I need to upgrade my laptop? (I love the small form factor) I've mostly focused on network issues but I've exhausted all options. The bandwidth and signal seem pretty tight. Thoughts? Places to look next? [link] [comments]  |

Think of it like a fidget toy I guess. Well this time I did it and I put my teeth over the cameras and, in certain positions, it feels like electricity starts going through my teeth and causing pain. I have a 2019 15" MacBook Pro running OS Catalina 10.15.4....my issue is the internet is super patchy on it. One minute it works fine the next not at all. I have other devices( including another MacBook Pro(2013) That works perfectly fine. Ive run safari and chrome as a web browser both have the issue, and sometime safari won't open specific pages e.g. twitter. My mum rang harvey norman and good guys and they said don't bother ordering anything from apple cause we cant order anything from them as there is 6 month wait due to virus, and that they only have minimal stock left and are running out of stock and to come get computer now before they run out. I bought this dock that has a USB-C outlet so it connects with the work laptop fine but not with my personal laptop. The main purpose of using the dock is to have one connection to 2 displays and multiple USB ports. I found some product like this -Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.. | Posted: 13 May 2020 04:18 PM PDT Recently I have picked up some adware, and I was wondering if I could get some insight in how to stop it. Issue started a couple of days ago. It redirects me to random websites all leading back to articles on ppcorn (dot) com. They all seem clickbait by nature and not something I would look at. There is a similar thread on /r/brave_browser here that addresses some of the same issues (though the adware seems to be on OSX and not exclusive to any browser) Model Info 2016 MacBook Pro 15-inch 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7 Raedon Pro 460 4 GB Intel HD Graphics 530 1536 MB OS: Mojave 10.14.6 The adware in question hides popup windows in the corner of the monitor off screen. All popups have to relate with ppcorn (dot) com, along with some other redirect websites. This is the page I keep seeing come up, but when I try to re search for the page using my browser's search bar's dropdown menu it shows some other websites related to the search. 1 2 3 The popup repeats opening maybe once every couple of hours. I scanned my computer with Malwarebytes & Avast Security, both to no avail. I am currently going through and manually looking up all processes in Activity Monitor to see what might be off/unwanted. I don't have any Chrome extensions I have any reason to distrust (uBlock Origin, RES, Betternet VPN), so I believe it is somewhere on my computer, though if I'm wrong please let me know. | Apple ID not signing in, not able to access apps, says storage is full but it does not add up Posted: 13 May 2020 07:55 PM PDT IPhone 6s, iOS 10.0.2 I noticed that my phone has been running a bit more sluggishly recently. I was on reddit earlier today and it randomly kicked me out of my reddit account. When I tried to log back in, it would not let me back in despite my credentials being correct. It then popped up that I needed to sign into my Apple account and iCloud. Even with correct credentials, it does not work. I have been close to full on my storage for a while and initially thought that was the source of the problem, but after adding up all of the storage usage, it is almost 30 GB less than what it says I am using. | Trouble restoring a backup on new iPhone SE Posted: 13 May 2020 07:41 PM PDT I just got the new iPhone SE and I'm having some issues restoring the backup off my MacBook. I backed up my old iPhone 6 just before getting the new phone. I went through the setup until it got to the options where I chose to restore from Mac or PC. I press that, and it says to connect it to a Mac or PC with iTunes. I do that, and the new iPhone appears on my Mac. I go through the steps of selecting a backup, and once I accept the Terms and Conditions, the goes back to saying connect to a Mac it PC and the Finder on my Mac stops showing the new phone. So I tried doing the transfer directly from my old iphone. I get through the step where it has me move the blue circle barcode thing into the camera, then my old iPhone says to finish setup on the new one. The new one will once again ask me for passcode and Touch ID choices, then immediately revert back to the introductory "Hello" screen. Any help? [link] [comments]  |
| I dont know which MacBook to get Posted: 13 May 2020 07:28 PM PDT Im going back to school in the fall to finish my Cyber Security degree after stopping in 2018. I have a desktop at home that I have used for everything. (8600k OC'ed to 5Ghz 16GB 3000Mhz Ram and a GTX 1070) Just for reference. My next set of classes are about linux & virtualization. I know that Ill need a quad core so the base Air is out and I know that I really should have 16GB of RAM, ideally 32GB, but that gets kinda pricey. So I'm torn on getting a upgraded Air (Quad core and 16GB RAM because its a 10th Gen CPU, even though its the low powered CPU Or getting a Pro with the 8th Gen CPU and 16GB of RAM, but i dont really know if the 256GB storage will be enough. I'll be running at least 2 but probably 3 versions of Linux and a copy of Windows 10, so I'm thinking about getting the 512GB storage. At that point I might as well go for the top end 13in Pro because it comes with the ram and storage I want AND the 10th Gen CPU for only a little more. What do you think? Is the CPU a huge deal with virtualization? would the 10th Gen CPU be THAT much of a difference in my use case? I plan on using this computer of the remainder of my college career. When I'm using it plugged into my Mac it works perfectly but when I use it via bluetooth there is a significant lag. I've had the computer and keyboard for about a year and haven't noticed this until recently. Could this be a hardware issue? Also use a Bluetooth Magic Mouse with no issues Thanks!! | My iPod is unresponsive sometimes and the software is glitchy is this on purpose Posted: 13 May 2020 06:29 PM PDT I have an iPod touch that was brand new on Christmas 2018 and it's running iOS 11.2.6 and it's always been glitchy, like sometimes it'll randomly reset itself (which is really annoying when I'm listening to music while driving) and sometimes I have to push the home button twice or more before it'll respond and even the screen gets unresponsive and I have to tap it harder to get it to do what I want. It's been like this for the entente year and a half I've had it. Why is it like this? Does Apple make the iPod touch terrible on purpose? I'd put my music on my old iPod nano but it doesn't have enough storage....If I could find a nice refurbished iPod classic with enough storage to fit my some 1500 songs with room for more I'd get that and move my tv shows to my phone [link] [comments]  |
| [Question] Possible Used iPhone made to look New in Box (LOTs of details) Posted: 13 May 2020 12:31 PM PDT First let me set a couple things up: I know this is a LEGIT Apple iPhone, not an android fake. I believe it might have been an "open box" situation, that they resealed, or a used iPhone that they cleaned up and repackaged as new. I am unable to find if this is a scam, as everybody's mentioning the fake iPhones. Again, this IS an iPhone, some things were super suspicious though. I have never owned a new in box iphone so I don't know what to suspect, so I'm going to go a little crazy with this lol. Please bear with me. I BOLDED KEY INFO. Please remember I have no clue what to look for when it comes to official Apple packaging. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I bought a "new in box" iPhone 7 on ebay. After getting to the box itself, It was shrink-wrapped (I know it's super easy to shrink-wrap stuff yourself and resell it). it did NOT have a plastic tab on it, like the one below (I don't know if this is suspicious or not lol, I believe I've seen unboxings with this, simply mentioning it to be complete). Yeah I know it's minor, just one of the first things I noticed The box itself had two stickers on the bottom, printed on transparent plastic (I pulled one up a little to make sure they weren't covering something) with the info on them. Not sure if this is suspicious, simply mentioning to be complete. The box was somewhat difficult to open, it didn't slide out like I've seen on unboxings. I was slightly concerned here (I've heard people rant about how if the box doesn't sliiiiiiiide open then something's up, again, don't have a clue just saying what I've heard). Once open, I checked the documentation for any weird shit. Bingo. The documentation looked... official enough (I cannot find scans of the official documents to compare), however mentioned wireless charging. Red flag. I don't think apple misprinted it (can't verify though cuz can't find scans of documentation), I believe the seller threw in iPhone 8 documentation because it was close enough, and people don't check. Nothing stood out as misspelled or strange about the above documentation. The paper did have slightly rough edges though. Earpods with Lightning connector, not 3.5mm to lightning adapter. Had mic and remote. They sound good, I've had cheap knockoffs, these aren't those. Remote is clicky like the cheapo knockoffs though, not slightly mushy, not sure if that's suspicious. They do NOT have plastic wrap on them, they did have paper sleeves though. Lightning cable looked slightly rough. iPhone was on IOS 13.3, which another red flag for me. That's a much newer iOS afaik than they'd ship with right? Anyways, It activated (I wanted to use it for these pics lol), I checked the warranty, which says this: For all I know that could be when the seller bought it "new". Am I in denial? yeah... After doing more digging around it, I'm almost certain it was a resold as new iPhone. I guess what I'm wondering is: Have I most definitely been bamboozled, is there anything I can do to guarantee I get a full refund (I paid almost $300, could have bought a "new open box" one for like $180), and what can I do to ensure this seller doesn't sell more like this?
