External monitors with macbook do not wake up Posted: 08 May 2020 09:47 PM PDT I have 3 LG ultrafine external monitors that I use with my 16" macbook. It runs great when they are all on. I leave the laptop display on too. However when I wake the macbook generally at least one and sometimes 2 or 3 of the monitors do not turn on. The only fix I know of is unplug and re-plug in the USB-C cables. This takes a bit of time for them to wake up, and this only works 80% of the time, so sometimes I have to do it more than once. It's not horrible, I've gotten kind of used to it. But it would be nice if the monitors turned on automatically when I wake the macbook. Or if there was a key or macro I could run to make them turn on. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Why does my music app randomly download songs that I’ve already downloaded? Posted: 08 May 2020 05:01 PM PDT I have an iPhone 8 Plus with iOS 13.3.1 at the moment, and I have an Apple Music subscription. This morning, I opened my music app, and noticed it was downloading hundreds of songs. Fortunately, I was connected to wifi, so it didn't affect my data. I checked the download list, and I recognized all of the songs as ones that had already been downloaded. I let it finish, and saw nothing new on my phone. As I thought, every song it downloaded had already previously been downloaded. If I had not noticed the downloading as it happened, I likely would not have even known it happened. This has happened to me once before. A few months ago, I woke up one morning to discover all of my cellular data had been used for that month, despite having over 10gb left the night prior. The data usage showed that my music app used all of the data overnight, but I couldn't find any new songs that were supposedly downloaded. I called Apple Support, but the people I talked to did not know what the problem could be. I told them that it seemed as if my phone randomly deleted my library of downloaded songs and then downloaded every one again, but I was told that can't happen. They told me to disable the usage of cellular data for the music app, which certainly prevents such an incident from using up all of my data again, but I still don't know what happened in the first place, and the incident can still happen again, as it did this morning. For all I know, it may have happened other times as well without my knowledge. In a nutshell: why is my phone downloading songs that I have already downloaded? [link] [comments] |

Why would signals get crossed on Facetime? Posted: 08 May 2020 08:22 PM PDT My son was just freaked out. He has an iPhone 6 and was on a FaceTime call with a friend. Suddenly something strange happened and he could see her but no longer hear her. He heard a male voice saying, "Dad?" and then some other talking. He immediately hung up and called her back. She heard what she believes was the dad answering his son. How could this have happened? And is it something to be concerned about? Thanks. [link] [comments] |

My left AirPod dies before my right Posted: 08 May 2020 08:09 PM PDT Hey! I've had my AirPods Gen 2 for about 3 days, I've only just noticed that my left AirPod dies while the right one is still on 16 percent. Is this a bad battery or is it normal? [link] [comments] |

Attempting to sync Photos with iCloud, a message mentioning "finder" and removing photos appears. Posted: 08 May 2020 07:59 PM PDT Hello everyone, First of all, lemme say that I'm for the most part an android guy, I don't have a lot of experience with iOS. That being said, I'm currently attempting to back up my mother's phone to iCloud (as her Lightning port has stopped functioning), and everything is enabled aside from Photos. When I try to turn it on, this message appears. Will this remove any photos from the device itself? What would "Finder" happen to be? I'd appreciate any help I can get :) Phone specs:

Can't Feel 2019 Macbook Pro Mousepad click Posted: 08 May 2020 07:49 PM PDT I can't feel the click of my 2019 Macbook Pro (w/ touchbar) when I try to click the mouspad. I've tried blowing the edges of the mousepad, resetting the Mac SMC and PRAM reset. There isn't a noticeable bulge in the case so I don't think its a battery issue. After the SMC reset, it registers a click but I still can't physically feel any reaction to a click. I'm using macOS Catalina version 10.15.4 if it matters [link] [comments] |

Phone stolen and FindMyIPhone is no help Posted: 08 May 2020 07:47 PM PDT Not too long ago, my iPhone was stolen and unfortunately it didn't have a screenlock pin at the time. I went online and tried to put it on lost mode and it said to me it will use a preexisting pin that's on the phone - the phone doesn't have a pin so I assume the thief set one. Therefore rendering using lost mode useless. If I factory reset the phone that will remove my Icloud from the phone giving the thief a fresh new phone. How do I go about locking the phone so he can't access it anymore? [link] [comments] |

Iphone acting weirdly after dropping it Posted: 08 May 2020 07:30 PM PDT So I dropped my phone and got a big crack on the screen. Since then, the phone is acting as if someone is remotely controlling it. It will open up apps by itself and then press buttons by itself. If I open up the notes app, it will like try to choose a part of the passage as if someone's pressing on that part of the screen. Is there any way to fix this at home? [link] [comments] |
How long does the keyboard repair process take? Posted: 08 May 2020 07:19 PM PDT I have a 2018 MBP and my keyboard has been giving me problems for the last 6 months. I'll have to check if any stores around me are even open due to CV.

Posted: 08 May 2020 07:17 PM PDT The other night, while trying to open a video in VLC, I got the color wheel and my fans spun up. And when I say "spun up," I mean full-bore like I've never heard except sometimes when I'm gaming. And the case near the hinge didn't really feel hotter than usual. I hard rebooted, and after maybe 20 seconds of the computer being off the fans spun back down. The machine appears to be working fine since, but is this something to worry about? Just seems like such a simple task shouldn't have taxed the hardware to the point it needed to try and take off. The computer was on a wooden desk, so I'm pretty sure no vents were obstructed. And I recently had the inside of it cleaned out, so I don't think there's any airflow blockage inside. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Sport White Xbox One controller isn't connecting to Apple TV 4K, both on latest version Posted: 08 May 2020 07:16 PM PDT I updated the apple tv in settings, and used Xbox Accessories to check for any controller updates, both are on their latest releases but the tv can't find the controller. I'm able to connect the controller just fine to my laptop too. EDIT: had to wait a couple more minutes for it to show up [link] [comments] |

Recommended Mac Specs and Intel or Apple? Posted: 08 May 2020 02:27 PM PDT My next laptop is going to be a Macbook so I'm trying to learn a little bit more about recommended specs for my workload. I plan to do a decent amount of programming so MATLAB, Arduino, Java, and Python are on the table. I also will probably be running Fusion360 for some 3D printing and modeling. With the current (new) 13 inch Macbook Pro I was thinking of going with the 10th Gen i7 upgrade but I'm a little less sure about spending $400 to upgrade from 16GB to 32GB of RAM. Is 16GB enough or is that a must upgrade since it is not user servicable? While thinking about all of that, it occurred to me that I might miss the dedicated GPU. I want the 13 inch form factor but especially for Fusion360 I'm worried that the Intel Iris graphics may not be enough. I keep seeing crazy benchmarks for the A series chips and it does sound like Apple is planning to work those in. So two questions for this part, 1) is the Intel Iris graphics enough for some light CAD and 2) do you feel that future Apple smaller MacBook pro's are primed to get more graphics power in a larger refresh like when the 15 inch went to the 16 inch? Obviously that last part is pretty heavy speculation but I'm really trying to get a feel for the landscape before I invest in another $2000+ laptop. For all the disappointments I've had with my Razer Blade 14, the i7 and GTX 1060 have not been a letdown and for an aluminum unibody design it's right in line with the Apple offerings QC and Windows issues aside.
