AppleTV 4K remote only works while plugged in and charging. Posted: 28 May 2020 05:31 PM PDT So I've had an AppleTV 4K for a little less than a year now. Last night I decide that the remote was filthy and that I needed to clean it. I went a little overboard, ran it under water, wiped it down with alcohol swab, ran it under water again, dried it, etc., and then went to bed to go watch something. It was working fine, and I ended up falling asleep with the TV on. Early in the morning I realized it was still on, so I tried to shut it off but it wouldn't shut off. I figured the remote died, so I just turned off the TV. A few hours later, I woke up and charged the remote. I went to go use it again just now and realized it wasn't working. Long story short, I've come to find out the remote now only works if it's plugged into the charger. When it's plugged in everything works (except for the volume), but the second I unplug it it stops working. If I plug it back in, it starts working right away again. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm assuming I'm going to have to buy a new remote now. [link] [comments] |
2015 Macbook Pro giving a flashing folder with a question mark screen after I installed a new SSD Posted: 28 May 2020 08:12 PM PDT So my Macbook gave out a few months ago and I was told it was due to my SSD failing, I just recently bought a new SSD from OWC and installed it earlier but now I'm getting this folder screen. I've tried booting it in recovery mode and doing all the resets but nothing is working or getting past this screen. Please help! [link] [comments] |
New MBP stuck in internet recovery mode Posted: 28 May 2020 07:08 PM PDT Hey Apple experts, I just got a new 16" MacBook Pro but things have gone awry while migrating my data from another Mac. Would appreciate any advice you might have. When I opened the new computer, I turned it on and made a new account just to make sure it worked. Seeing that it did, I began the data migration process from my old MBP (still running Mojave) using Migration Assistant. The migration seemed to be going ridiculously slowly to the point that I thought it was frozen. I then realized that I could get all the data from Time Machine on my backup drive, so I cancelled the process. To make sure I had a clean start again, I rebooted the new computer in recovery mode and reinstalled MacOS Catalina. But unfortunately this stopped halfway through claiming there was an internet problem (I was seated right next to my router). After this point, whenever I restarted the computer, it would either flash the folder with the question mark (i.e. no bootable drive found) or it would enter internet recovery mode. In the case of the latter, I would enter my wifi password and then it would gyrate for about 10 minutes until it gave up, showing "apple.com/support -2002F". I've created a bootable USB drive with Mojave on it and although my computer recognizes it when I hold the option key while starting, it boots into internet recovery mode anyway. I'm currently making another USB drive, this time with Catalina, hoping for better results. Has anyone else experienced problems like this? Anything else I can try? I'm very excited to use my new machine but this is proving to be immensely frustrating so far. Thanks for your time! edit: Now no matter what I do, it boots into internet recovery mode: booting up normally, holding cmd + r, holding option + cmd + r... I have two bootable USB drives plugged into the computer, one with Catalina and the other with Mojave. When I hold option while starting up, it correctly shows the two drives (and a wifi menu underneath). But when either is selected, it goes back into internet recovery mode anyway. [link] [comments] |
Good resources for getting Apple certified? Posted: 28 May 2020 06:46 PM PDT I'm looking into getting the certification to potentially get a job. I'm not sure what any certification exam would entail (are they done online now?) in terms of content, so does anyone know of some good resources to study and prepare? [link] [comments] |

Macbook slows down and apps take time to load when I'm connected to the internet Posted: 28 May 2020 10:00 PM PDT The moment I'm connected to the internet my MacBook starts acting slow and laggy - apps load after like 20-30 bounces on the dock. I've checked the Activity Monitor and I don't notice any new services or apps taking up considerable CPU power except the app I clicked that shows not responding. Additional details:

Files getting deleted out of icloud Posted: 28 May 2020 09:22 PM PDT I save all my college text books, notes and ppts on the icloud drive through the files app. I recently noticed that my previous semesters files are getting deleted. I have not opened these files in 6 months - 1 year but would like to have them just in case. I own the free 5 gb version of icloud and I dont sync my photos with it. Is there a setting which I change so my files dont get deleted? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 May 2020 05:35 PM PDT ...help EDIT: SOLVED!!!! I did some forum hunting on static-damaged RAM and it turns out a lot of people have had similar experiences only to find out everything's fine after applying a tonne of pressure. Man, you gotta really shove this stuff in, huh? Funny thing is I'm heavy-handed as hell and have a history of breaking stuff when I think I'm being gentle so I took loads of extra precaution. The last thing I wanted to end up with is a literally broken stick of RAM. It might have taken 4 hours of my life to get back to square one but dang, this relief (and the lessons learned tbh) is irreplaceable. [link] [comments] |

Questions about security/privacy on my MacBook Posted: 28 May 2020 09:09 PM PDT Probably a series of stupid questions here, but I have recently started using zoom for school (like many) and I am wondering
I guess I am just mostly concerned about people being able to search my computer documents without my consent. Not university affiliated people specifically just anyone in general. Probably dumb questions but appreciate any insight. [link] [comments] |
-16 Minutes left on Mac OS Installation? Posted: 28 May 2020 05:20 PM PDT I did a factory reset of my MacBook (MacOS Sierra). When reinstalling MacOS, the bar fills up but nothing happens and it says "About -16 minutes left." Negative minutes? What's going on? Any help is appreciated. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Connecting from a Mac to an old Buffalo NAS Posted: 28 May 2020 08:51 PM PDT I have a 15 yr-old Buffalo LS-500GL NAS on my home network, with all my music on it. It still connects fine to Sonos and plays the music OK, so it's on the network OK - but I can no longer connect to it (to add new music) with my iMac or MacBook. Has something happened where it's now out of compliance with OS X? The symptom when trying to connect is that it asks for a username and password - and previously (for 15 years) I just select Guest and my iMac connects ok. Is this a firmware type thing, and OS X (I'm on Catalina 10.15.5) has gone past the point where this device is still supported? [link] [comments] |

I need help with App Store Developer Fees and Percentages Posted: 28 May 2020 04:58 PM PDT Hello, Ill try to keep it short and sweet. I am a developer who charges 1.99$ for my app on the app store. Apples app store financial statements are garbage compared to Google Plays and their support is just as bad, so I am hoping someone in this community can help. Apple states that the developers get 70% of the sales and Apple recieves a 30% commision. 3 months in a row now it always seems to be that I take home 68% of the total sales each month. Is there some sort of sales tax that Apple is just not reporting to me? I know its only 2%, but when I am putting these numbers in financial statements they need to actually be correct. Need help transferring iTunes collection. Need a new a current .itl file Posted: 28 May 2020 08:36 PM PDT So I got a new macbook and I want to transfer my iTunes library to my new computer. I tried to just copy both my iTunes and Music folder over manually, and I can get it on my new computer but the library that comes up is from a few months ago, missing a lot of recent music. It's the same library from my latest time machine backup. I add new music to my library everyday and the last songs added are the same date of the last time machine backup. I did not use time machine when I manually moved the files from my old computer to my new one. So my idea is that my old computer only has a file of my itunes collection up to my last time machine backup, it hasn't saved a new library (file) on my computer since the last time machine back up. So my idea was to just do another time machine back up on my old computer and it should create an updated, current file of my itunes collection. But I can't get my computer to backup time machine in order to try it. Any ideas? Basically how can I get a file of my itunes collection on my computer that is current? I've tried to consolidate the files and also tried to export the library but it only saves as an .xml file and I need the .itl file. TLDR How do I get a new .itl file of my current itunes collection [link] [comments] |

Phone screen turns off about 1 second AFTER i put it up to my ear for a call. Normal ? Posted: 28 May 2020 08:22 PM PDT I just noticed this on my xr. I was under the impression that the screen was supposed to turn off BEFORE the phone touches your ear to avoid your ear hitting the keypad and pressing number. Mine does it about a second AFTER my ear touches it. So just curious if anyone could help me. Thank you ! [link] [comments] |

Strange power issue on 2015 13" Macbook Pro and peripherals when using power adapter Posted: 28 May 2020 08:02 PM PDT Please excuse the keyword stuffed title of this post, but I wanted to make sure all the issues were capture at the get go. Here's what I know: A bit of historyI purchased a refurbished 2015 13" i7 MBP in 2017. It's mostly worked very well over the years, however I saw some issues with the charging early on, and despite having a warranty (with the refurbisher) and sending it in for repair, I believe the issue still persists. But now at least I have more details to share. The MBP came with an 85w seemingly official Apple power adapter. One thing I bought right away was a Magsafe to Magsafe 2 adapter so I could use my old 60W power adapter from my 2011 13" MBP as a backup. However that 60w adapter never worked to power the 2015 13" MBP. I believe it should have been able to as Apple lists it as compatible with all 13" MBPs. My warranty was only for a year, and If I recall, in 2018 my power adapter stopped working to charge my MBP. I believe the "repair" was simply to provide me with another power adapter. The current issue(s)Jump ahead to 2020 and I'm seeing some new issues. I've often noticed when plugging in my Magsafe 2 power cable, that there is a tiny whiteish spark. It's barely noticeable, and definitely not bigger amber sparks that fly away from the plug. These stay super close to the adapter plug, and only show up when you touch the plug to the body of the MBP close to the DC-in port. Check out the video below. First I show how my display goes blank when I touch the adapter to the body, and then the sparking. This sparking only happens when I touch the magsafe to the body near the power port. killing my display softly with its spark I didn't notice this effect in my normal home setup, but at home I use mini display port to DVI adapters, and in my current rental place I'm a male HDMI to DVI adapter into my MBP. I also didn't unplug my MBP at home very often at all and it was usually on power before I connected my displays. Even if I plug in the power adapter first and then the display, during the work day I get a lot of glitchiness on the display. It cuts out, gets fuzzy rainbow colors, etc. None of these issues occur if I'm not connected to the magsafe power adapter. Other OddnessSo the sparking and the display seem to totally align. What I've also noticed is that my trackpad seems a bit erratic at times, but again ONLY when the power is connected. On battery everything I describe as an issue goes away. I've been using my iPhone as a hotspot over USB as well. When doing this, I'm plugged directly into my MBP USB ports. When the MBP has power connected, I can hold on the touch ID button (like you would to unlock your pone) and it's like I'm rapidly double tapping to activate reachability. It's sensing lots of extra taps (or I expect) electrical input/signal that's not coming from me. This clip shows it, though when I hold the phone up, like I do in the video, it's not as rapid as when it's laying on my desk. Still I'm only putting my finger on the touch ID sensor in the video, and instead of unlocking, you see reachability is being activated. So to summarize, Power adapter sparks, trackpad going a bit haywire, display glitching, and iPhone touch ID being erratic. All only when the power adapter is connected. And if you're wondering what my port and adapter pins look like, I think they're pretty decent. I didn't get a pic of the pins, but none are stuck, and every time I plug in, my MBP charged exactly as you'd expect (minus the sparks). The pic below of the port doesn't look the best, but It's not dusty and I'm unable to clean anything out of it. I think it's just wear on the metal to metal contact over the years. So what have I tried?
Should I?
Thanks for reading and watching. If I can answer any other questions that might get me closer to the underlying cause, please let me know. I greatly appreciate any recommendations as well. [link] [comments] |
Looking to downgrade my OS in a cost-efficient manner Posted: 28 May 2020 08:00 PM PDT So recently, I bought Terraria on Steam to play with friends while we're all stuck at home. However, upon attempting to boot it up, I learned that it and certain other games don't function on Catalina, only Mojave and other earlier OS versions! I've been researching methods of downgrading my OS, and most seem either costly in some form or very complicated. I was hoping that some of you could run me through the process and tell me what I might need. I use a 2014 MacBook Air. I've seen numerous suggestions for an external hard drive, but my on-hand options are somewhat limited. I have two microSD cards, one 256 GB and the other 64 GB, as well as some kind of microSD to normal SD converter. Would these serve any memory needs I might have, such as for a boot drive and a backup? Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
