    UPDATE: It turned back on!!! Of its own accord, I didn't try. The keyboard functioning is kinda f'd up but I shut it back down ASAP and am letting it dry out some more.

    I was trying to surprise my mom with Mother's Day flowers, and ended up spilling a full vase of water into my MacBook Pro 13" (2014?). Based on a lot of googling I think I damaged the SSD. I had a file with a question mark come up, and when I tried to turn it off, it just restarted and then died again and now it won't turn on at all

    It's sitting as flat as possible right now with a fan underneath, and no plans to touch it for at least a full day. Is there anything else I can really do at this point?

    I think if it's too far gone, I'll probably just get a refurbished version of a newer model rather than pay for the repair. Either way I'll be wiping out my savings in the middle of a pandemic lmao yikes

    This is a problem because I can't take new pictures or download anything which i rely on, i even rely on my camera for domestic abuse safety. i can't update apps and those will soon not work because they're gonna be several, several updates behind.

    i don't have wifi at home im not near anything really either and i have no transportation and wifi access points such as cafes and libraries are closed due to covid19

    I've deleted 5gb photos from my phone, including "recently deleted", yet it's not showing any space having opened up. The "Photos" data amount dropped from 14gb to 9, so the overall storage should have dropped from 32 to 27, accordingly.... nope. baffled. in fact i've never had this problem — even just a couple months ago when deleting it'd actually acknowledge the deletion by demonstrating space had been freed.

    i've 'offloaded unused apps'

    i've cleared "recently deleted "

    i don't connect to icloud in over 160 days since last in wifi with it enabled. i've turned off sync with that. but when i did do it 160+ days ago i did have it set to "optimize storage" and not "keep originals".

    (icloud is set to not function / back up whatsoever , or anything like that, unless connected to wifi.)

    when i delete from my phone it should free up space. it hasn't. even with forced restarts.

    i've had it very-near full for a decent amount of time, tbh, just so you know

    i don't know why it won't reflect the deletion when i delete. it's a huge problem. i'm deleting properly definitely. but seriously i haven't done anything with icloud in wifi in 160 days, although i have used public access wifi points maybe once a month since then for a half an hour or so, although i never did anything with icloud nor did it prompt anything nor did the icloud "used storage" thing ever increase since (from 2.8/5gb used) since my last tinkering with it 160 days ago.

    2015 Macbook Pro--suddenly starting to randomly freeze with weird quiet high-pitched whine?

    Longtime Macbook Pro user here. I bought a refurbished Macbook Pro from a reputable reseller about 7 months ago and it's worked absolutely perfectly until about a week ago. Since then, about every other day, I'll be working away without running much (just Firefox and mail), and suddenly I'll hear a very quiet, faint, high-pitched whine coming from the Macbook Pro. At that point, although I can still move the pointer around, the various parts of the UI start freezing. So for instance, if I move the pointer to the Dock, the Dock will appear and then freeze. I'll then try to navigate a web browser window or move it around, and I can't--in fact, nothing at all works except the mouse pointer. I then have to hard reset by turning it off and on with the power button, and everything seems fine.

    However, the same thing just happened a half hour ago, and when I rebooted, it worked for another minute or two, then did the same thing--it's never happened twice so fast before. I then rebooted a again, and this time it's been working fine--so far.

    Last time I rebooted I did a diagnostic by pressing the "D" key when rebooting; the diagnostic found nothing wrong.

    Any idea what's going on? Google has surprisingly not revealed a lot to me in terms of what this might be.

    MacBook Pro 15-inch 2017 touch bar: Any tips or ideas to help with this screen discoloration? I believe it's caused by heat and goes away after a while but haven't seen heat discoloration like this on other devices. Had the display replaced after cracking about a year and a half ago.

    iPhone will NOT delete an default app - it’s gray and it STAYS. It may be preventing my phone from knowing it’s no longer “full” because it can’t calculate category sizes for Storage, which in turn prevents me from using camera, voice memos, all updates etc – basically anything!

    Hi, my sister has a MacBook Air 13" from early 2014 with the default hardware (a 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor and Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB).

    She was watching Youtube when suddenly the screen colors changed and now we can't change them back, we have already checked the configuration of the inverted color and it isn't selected.

    Does anybody know what it could be?

    Can my family member see my private information?

    I gave my iPad to my father about a year ago. I'm pretty sure I factory reset, or at least logged out of my iCloud. I never worried about it until today when he said, "Do you have an account called ———@me.com?"

    I said "Yes, that's my iCloud account. Why?" He said he tried to send an email and that email popped up as one of the emails to send from. He accidentally sent it from that one and he needed me to check it for a reply...

    Why the heck does my iCloud email pop up on his iPad??? Now I'm scared that he's had the ability to snoop on me for the past year. Is this true?

    Apple iMac 2014” 27” 5k HDD issues

    I have noticed that over the past few months my iMac hdd has been extremely loud so I'm wondering if an apple authorised reseller or someone could replace the hdd with a new one or ssd? Is this possible? Cheers in advance.

    Late 2011 15" MacBook Pro – Bad GPU, no OS, inaccessible recovery, SIP enabled

    I'm in a bit of a pickle right now with my late 2011 MacBook Pro.

    I've disabled the external GPU using various guides in the past by moving the kext file to a "disabled extensions" folder, etc.

    However, all of these methods assume your computer as an OS.

    My MBP has a dead GPU so it'll hang on booting to the (internet) recovery. I'll see the grey globe icon and the loading bar will animate and then the display will stay on a grey screen indefinitely – it's hanging because the Radeon GPU is malfunctioning. I can't disable the GPU until I disable SIP which can only be disabled via the recovery mode (as far as I know).

    I've created a bootable High Sierra installer on an external SSD and I can boot to that (which means booting to the recovery) but it'll just hang, just like the internet recovery does.

    There is no OS since I've wiped the SSD during my attempts to install macOS on it. I have a Time Machine backup on an external hard drive.

    Questions

    • As far as I know, SIP can only be disabled from the recovery mode. The recovery mode won't load until the MBP detects the Radeon GPU or until it's instructed to not look for it (by disabling the relevant kernel extension). But I can't disable the kernel extension unless I can disable SIP. But I can't get to the recovery. You can see where this is going. Is there any workaround to this?

    If yes, then:

    • Is is possible to install macOS (High Sierra) onto the 2011 MBP's blank internal SSD if I mount it on my 2017 MBP?

    • Can I use the existing Time Machine backup to install macOS to the blank SSD?

    I currently use a 2017 MBP on Catalina as my main computer so attempting to revive the 2011 MBP is just a fun "project" right now.

    Please correct me if I'm wrong in any of my assumptions above. Thanks!

    So i was planning on buying a used Airpods pro. I asked him to take a photo of the serial number, which he did so i typed the serial number on apple's website and it said that the product has been replaced. What does this actually mean?

    Slow iMac and downgrading OS

    Hello, hope someone can help.

    I have the base model 2017 iMac. The experience has been slow and pathetic -- to the point of breaking my brand loyalty with Apple. From a Google search, I've gathered that the stats on this bas model are barely sufficient to run MacOS. This situation is completely non-functional for remote working and life in general.

    I would like to find a solution before ultimately pawning off the device and switching to a PC. Would it be possible to downgrade to an older version of MacOS (Currently on latest Catalina). I wouldn't mind this at all. Even the older versions of MacOS get the job done.

    Anti glare screen for 15” 2015 MacBook Pro?

    I love everything about this machine except for the super glossy screen which makes it impossible to work outside.

    Coming from the silky smooth high res matte screen of an older MacBook Pro it feels like an abomination.

    Any recommendations for an anti glare screen cover? I'm also considering polarized non-darkened prescription glasses but not easy to find.

    Won’t let me email from iOS

    Like I was casually sending emails yesterday but oh no all of a sudden my password is wrong so I can't send emails but ok let me scroll through my inbox and read everything? Literally haven't changed a thing and this is so damn frustrating it says incorrect password for incoming mail server. Like I just wanna send a fukin email Jesus.

    MacBook Air iMessage - Can't Text Myself Anymore

    Hey Everyone,

    For some reason, if I go to create a new iMessage conversation on my MacBook Air, I am unable to find myself as contact.

    I did delete my contact and re-add it as well as make sure the number and Apple ID are all aligned too. My contact card also has the silhouette as well. Everything is syndicated properly on my iCloud and contacts, but can't figure this one out!

    How to make recovery disk on external hard drive in order to install mac os Sierra on a newly installed clean internal SSD via mid 2012 MacbookPro?

    this is super complicated. literally been going at it for like 5 hours. keep installing the drives not knwing how to install the mac os on the new SSD.

    Internet recovery tries to load the newest OS and then it doesn't read my internal SSD even being there because the newest OS isn't compatible with my mid 2012 macbook pro.

    So i'm trying to put mac os x Sierra on my external hard drive. i have it partitioned so the recovery disk can be on one partition adn then my data backed up on the other parition. so how do I put the mac os Sierra on the recovery disk?

    then how do I load the recovery disk and install that onto the new internal SSD?

    sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app

    this is not working in terminal. it says not a valid mount point

    I want to purchase a new MacBook Pro 2020 for the next 5-7 years. I am looking for longevity and something that could potentially diversity my usage. I am finishing my undergraduate degree in communication studies (mostly essay writing) but am thinking about going into digital marketing and am doing some small video editing (most likely through iMovie) over the summer.

    I have narrowed down my choices to the following:
