I want my AirPods auto connect to my iPhone when MacBook is closed and in by backpack. Maybe there is terminal commands for that or any software ? I using toothfairy, and its good. | “Other” data after wiping hard drive Posted: 22 Apr 2020 01:00 AM PDT I have 6.45 GB data in "Other" when checking Storage after I wiped the hard drive. I've tried looking but I couldn't find anything about having "Other" data after formatting the HD. Is this normal? Any idea what it is? Thank you. Edit: There is also 11.17 GB in "Other Volumes" per Disk Utility when checking the volume that contains MacOS and the Data volume only has 3.9 GB used. When I click on the container disk it states "1 not mounted" with 4.6 GB. I just wiped the drive. What volumes and what is not mounted that the iMac could be referring to? I'm a bit tired of seeing everyone asking how to reinstall Catalina, or downgrade to Mojave, or asking why there's so many partitions after doing either... and I was going to create a series of guides with screenshots or videos that I would hope the admins would set as sticky. In addition to those, what other types of guides would someone want to see? I own an IT business, so a lot of these guides are already written in my documentation system, so it's just a matter of formatting it for Reddit. Just let me know! | Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:01 PM PDT ok so...just upgraded to Catalina and wow the music app unexpectedly sucks. Sometimes I feel like they are compelled to change functionality that is fine just to make it feel new. I keep all my music on my harddrive and like many of you have found the new music search system to be....inefficient. BUT I have found that if I go into the song list mode depending on which column you have it organized by (I use Artist) you can start typing "Throbb..." and itll jump right to •Throbbing Gristle. Then you can type something else without backspacing. No search box to enter text in, just start typing. Anyway, not perfect but gonna try this as my new alternative. [link] [comments]  | ||

| Cannot add a steam game to input monitoring in System Preferences. Posted: 21 Apr 2020 06:22 PM PDT Hey r/MacOS. Another Catalina blunder here. I'm trying to give 'Night in the Woods' permission for input monitoring in Security and Privacy. When I launch the app I'm given a shortcut to add it immediately, however I have to quit the game first, when I hit 'quit now' the app quits, but the box doesn't check. Additionally when I re-open system preferences after re-booting and try to add the app without it being open, the box doesn't check either. So basically, I can't add it, no matter what I try. I've tried resetting all permissions and doing it all again with 'tccutil reset all' in terminal but nothing works. Please help me find the solution. | Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:33 PM PDT For some reason, to select all text I now have to hold "Fn + Command + A" when I've always been used to just pressing "Command + A." I don't really recall changing any settings that might be causing this and if I just press "Command + A" nothing really happens. Anyone have any idea on what might be causing this? | Weird TouchBar issue Apple can't fix. Any idea? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:57 PM PDT Hey everyone, I have a weird Touch Bar issue I haven't been able to find any info about and am curious if anyone here has run into it. I'm on a 2017 MBP 15" with Touch Bar. Last week, the touchbar stopped showing app custom stuff, and will only show esc, screen brightness, key brightness, and volume, no matter what app or what I do. I called apple support, they ran me through the usual SVRAM reset and end processes, nothing. So I send it into them, they replace the logic board and upper case (thank god for apple care) and send it back to me. When I receive it, it works fine, but as soon as I restore from my time machine backup, it's back to this weird limited options touchbar thing. I created a separate account and the touchbar works just fine. So I've deduced it must be some program, setting, or something on my user account causing this. I've purged almost all 3rd party apps and nothing. Has anyone run into this or have any idea what might be causing it? I'd rather not have to wipe my account and manually port files over one by one but that's apple's recommendation Tl;dr - touchbar stuck on basic option regardless of app, narrowed it down to a software issue limited to one user account. any ideas? | Finally updated my MBP to Catalina, all my apps are defunct, should I keep my iMac on Sierra? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 04:10 PM PDT Sorry if this isn't the best place as this is pretty app related. I did try to search for similar answers but not much came my way. So this is a bit of stupidity on my part, as I was avoiding updating for ages, but a couple nights ago I just blindly clicked yes on all updates because my Acrobat Pro stopped working and boy do I regret it. I have a MBP 2017 and an iMac 2011ish. The iMac is not yet updated so Office/Adobe Suite is still working, for now. I was still using Office 2011 and Adobe CS6 from my student days, and even though they haven't been supported for ages, I was quite happy with it, as I only do occasional design work and only needed basic word/excel functions. Now of course I can't use either. Great timing when you're working from home and trying to pull in a few extra quid... so I have a few questions which I'm sure have been asked before, but forgive me for asking again: (My employer is willing to pay for Office, but they'd have no reason to pay for Adobe) Office 365/2019: I don't like the subscription model (I know I should get with the times) and don't really need/want OneDrive or Outlook - the syncing and live editing is cool but my role doesn't require collaboration like that and I've got storage. I also prefer not to have an active internet connection all the time. I'd go ahead and get Office 2019 except it's only for one machine. Eventually I might need it on my iMac or another device and I don't want to buy it twice. Please note, my employer will pay for one license (whether 365 or 2019) to facilitate me during quarantine, I'd be picking up the bill for any future subscriptions. No plans to get a new iMac anytime soon, it does what I need. Do I have to upgrade the OS? If I stay on Sierra for the foreseeable future, would that be terrible or some kind of security risk? Then at least I could still use the old software. Adobe CS6 is the one I'm most gutted about. I considered rolling back the update to Sierra for my MBP but decided against it, as Catalina is okay otherwise... but maybe I should? There is no suitable Adobe product for me at this point. I'm not getting Creative Cloud because I can't justify the ongoing cost, but I DO use it and valued having the perpetual license, even if it was mad old. I don't want to have to buy a month of CC every time I've got a side project. Again, if I keep my iMac at Sierra so I can use CS6, is that a problem? | Restore from Time Machine results in broken account Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:04 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm at my wit's end. My das has an old 2012 MBP which was still running Yosemite. Since I am home now with corona I decided to update his mac to catalina. We made a backup to his time machine external drive and started the process. However, after the update I couldn't log into the user account anymore. After the password it's just the spinning wheel forever. I reinstalled it, wiped the disk and tried to use the migration manager but nothing really made the account work again. I found this post: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/305097/macbook-pro-stuck-after-i-enter-my-password which sounded promising. However after deleting those files the problem still exists. Do you have any suggestion how to fix this issue? The problem is my dad is really bad with computers and I would like to give him the mac back as it was with all the files still there. I tried creating a new user, copying over all the files and everything, but that still didn't really work. All the Safari bookmarks and history, email settings and so on were lost. Basically, can you reinstall the same os you are on without recovery mode?
