Apple says get Bent - iPad Pro LTE 12.9 3rd gen Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:34 PM PDT Mine was slightly bent at purchase, even though it lived in a Apple Keyboard case mostly doing bedroom and living room duty, the bend got worse. Maybe from the pure weight of the combo. Never abused. Sent it in for some stability problems I was having with the wifi to apple, still under the regular 1 year warranty. Apple says pay $650 or forget about it. I trusted their support article that says they might come bent from the factory a little bit but they shouldn't bend more or cause issues... debated with a senior support person on the phone but they said they can't do anything about it. This should be a class action. [link] [comments]
Most versatile iPad lightning adapter - USB3 camera kit or some 3rd party? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:05 AM PDT Hi All, I have an iPad 6th Gen., which is by the way a fantastic machine for the price I bought it. My only gripe is that the lightning port is not as versatile as a USB-C port available on the pros. I want to get something at a reasonable price which can extend the lightning port functionality to a similar level as USB-C. I am aware that lightning-to-USB3 camera adapter can do the trick? Has anyone used the adapter with USB thumb drives, external hard disks, USB hubs, USB-to-ethernet adpaters etc. who can give me an idea of the limitations of this adapter? Are there any third party port replicators (docks) or other accessories that you can recommend? I am sure that this question has been asked many times here, but I could not find a comprehensive answer so far. Thank you for the response. [link] [comments]
Best budget case and/or keyboard combinations for the new 12.9" iPad Pro? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:27 PM PDT I have one ordered from Amazon that is set to deliver in two weeks and I'd like to get something cheap to tide me over. Any recommendations? [link] [comments]
Why does the video I create on my iPad not upload with sound? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 04:19 PM PDT I recorded a bunch of screen-sharing videos on my iPad Pro (2019), and for some reason, whenever i try to open them on my PC, the sound is missing. And the only programs the videos sound works on is QuickTime and Windows Media Player. I even tried uploading to YouTube, and it doesn't have the sound either... Anyone have a fix or know what is going on? [link] [comments]
New 12.9 iPad Pro. Any other Android users switch to Apple just for tablet? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 12:21 PM PDT Long rambling post, just thinking out loud. I don't know if I'd say I'm an Android "fan", but I'm a longtime Android user. In the mobile space Android seems to be the PC to Apple's iOS. It's not a perfect analogy, but Android is more open, more customizable, and perhaps a little more Wild West. I have never bought an Apple product, so of course I'm also a PC user. Their products seem nice and reasonably high quality with a lot of polish. They're also expensive and have a reputation for being comparatively locked down, controlled and walled garden. However, while the Android experience continues to be good, it seems I didn't really notice along the way that it's slowly becoming a stepchild in Google's world. And nowhere is that more apparent than in the tablet space the past few years. Maybe it's just tablets that are the stepchild, but there has been a huge drop in OEMs and even Google themselves shipping quality Android tablets, with Samsung seemingly the lone holdout. Yes there are still a sea of cheap generic Android tablets, Kindle Fire tablets and such, things used by kids and old people for light media and game consumption. But in the high-end "professional" tablet space Android has kind of died away. The past few years I have been using a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro. The main thing you need to know about it is that it has a glorious 12.2" display and the S-pen of course. Like most Android tablets OS support has been pitiful. There were a couple of small security patches years ago and one OS upgrade from Kit-Kat to Lollipop. The device came out in 2014 I think, beating the first iPad Pro by maybe a year. The Note Pro was very expensive and didn't sell that well. At the time its Exynos octa-core cpu and 3GB RAM was considered very high end, but now it's showing its age and becoming sluggish with some modern versions of apps. Battery life is still decent thanks to the huge 9500mAh battery, but it has always been slow to charge. Also there are no biometrics, so I have to enter the PIN to unlock it each use, which seems passe now. The past 2 or 3 years I've searched high and low for a reasonable replacement, and truthfully I was really looking for it to come from Samsung. And by replacement I mean same or comparable 12" screen size. I just really do not want to compromise on that luxurious large screen. But after the failure of this device to catch on in the marketplace Android tablets seem to have topped out at a little over 10" screen size. It doesn't sound like a big difference, but one of my primary use cases is reading full digital reproductions of newspapers, magazines and tech books on my devices, and I'm simply not willing to compromise any on the screen size after what I've grown accustomed to with the Note Pro tablet. I also like to draw or sketch, take notes, do training courses, browse web with Chrome, some light office work and a little bit of video. The nearest replacement seems to be the Galaxy Tab S series. The Galaxy Tab S6 that came out last year looks like a very nice polished high end Android tablet and has a pen. But it's only 10.5", so it just won't cut it. On a 12" screen a magazine or tech book is almost fully reproduced to original size. Even at 10" it's obviously not the same size as the original, and my eyes aren't getting any younger. The Tab S6 is a good (and probably only) Android alternative to the 11" iPad Pro, but few will probably like the premium price when they could just have the iPad. And I guess if I wanted Chrome OS instead of Android proper then the recent Google Pixel Slate was a near contender at 12.3", but it seems Google is dropping that line altogether. Those devices had Apple-like pricing for models with decent storage, with no accessories included, but did have a pen and keyboard available. One alternative, and where many of the old Android tablet OEMs seem to have gone, is in the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet line and similar Windows tablet knock-offs from Samsung, HP, etc. Now these are nice enough devices, if you want a very compact glorified laptop PC that still has some power but in a tablet form factor with a detachable keyboard/case/cover. And they commonly come with screen sizes of roughly 12" which would seem to meet my requirement. As an actual tablet though I think they provide a poor experience, mostly because of the moribund state of the Windows Store app ecosystem. Mainstream apps commonly available on Android and iOS are often missing entirely or only available in inferior versions that rarely get updated. Serious developer interest in the Windows store seems to have only declined since they threw in the towel on Windows phones they couldn't sell. Sure the Surface devices can run the entire universe of Windows software applications, and that is likely their appeal, but few of those applications are touch optimized or scale wonderfully on such a small high-resolution screen. And these are basically Intel devices, which means some kind of triangulated compromise between how much CPU power there really is, how much heat it throws off, and how much the battery life suffers. There's the Surface Pro X thing running ARM, but with no apps I don't know how it will succeed where Windows RT failed. Finally, while I am a long time Windows user, I have no great love for Windows 10. It would be nice not to have to look at or deal with it on my tablet. So that brings me to the iPad Pro. Out of frustration trying to find a suitable Android replacement I started seriously contemplating an iPad Pro a couple of months ago, and by the time I decided to pull the trigger on the 12.9" version the new 2020 model was available and I've had it a couple of weeks now. I got the 512GB model. It's the first Apple product I've ever purchased. Now I'm not just "blown away", but yes it is a very very nice piece of kit. The display is gorgeous and more than replaces the 12.2" display of my Galaxy Note Pro. Virtually every app I used on Android has a version available on iPad that is as good or better, with a couple of small quibbles where I had a better experience on my Android tablet. I've read the reviews, seen the benchmarks and now experienced it myself - the cpu and gpu power are simply amazing. Battery life and charging both have been great. And I really like the Apple Pencil. As you might imagine I'm already heavily invested in other ecosystems, primarily Google, Amazon, Nook, Dropbox and Microsoft. So I'm not really going to embrace Apple's apps and services. Call it service fatigue maybe. A little cheap iCloud storage maybe, but nothing else. So I pretty much just shoved most of the Apple stuff into a folder to be ignored, treating them sort of the way I treated Samsung and their also-ran services. Which perhaps isn't fair but whatever. I find most of my other apps and services work great, and there are new apps to discover that may not be available on Android. I'm used to the openness, OS features and customization of Android, and I do find the iPadOS experience somewhat limited and lacking, but mostly it's very small stuff. For what I'm actually going to use it for it's fine and very polished. I do grouse about the whole in-app purchase situation. I knew about this before, but not previously being an Apple customer it was kind of not my problem, so I forgot about it. The web browser is the workaround, but it's just a crappy experience with Kindle/Google Play/Nook/Comixology/whatever and I tend to blame Apple. But maybe things will thaw on that front, with Prime Instant Video now allowing purchases. Particularly as Apple's competition wanes at least in the tablet space and they risk courting anti-trust scrutiny. Anyway, at the end of the day I now have a superb high end tablet that will actually have some OS support for several years and mostly lets me do what I want to do with it. I'm probably not ever going to buy an iPhone or a watch. I could see the appeal of a Mac, but my main laptop is actually an expensive System76 Oryx Pro and I really like their Linux distro. So I guess across devices I'm very eclectic now. High end Android phone, high end Linux laptop, a big Windows PC, a Kindle Oasis for most non-technical ebooks, Roku for the TVs, and now a top-of-the-line Apple iPad Pro tablet. So long Android tablets. [link] [comments]

Sending my bent iPad Pro in for repair Posted: 08 Apr 2020 03:29 PM PDT Hey guys, I noticed about a month ago that my iPad Pro 2018 is bent, I've had it since aipril last year so it just barely falls under basic warranty although I do have AppleCare+. I contacted an agent online through apple's repair program website and told them that I believe that my device is bent beyond the 400 micron limit that Apple mentioned on their site (although that post mentions only devices with cellular and mine is wifi only). The agent said if I send it in, it may be possible that it won't be deemed repairable and sent back. Out of curiosity, how have your experiences with apple support online been vs going in store (I know it's not much of an option right now either). Also I have seen many posts of people saying that the Apple store staff have been replacing the devices as wifi or USB issues rather than the true "bendgate" issue that the customers walk in with. Am I shooting myself in the foot by sending it in for repair by telling the truth about my actual concerns? Should I instead just wait and take it into a store within the next year and cover it as cosmetic under my AppleCare+? Thanks so much and sorry about the formatting! [link] [comments]
Posted: 08 Apr 2020 07:33 AM PDT I'm doing some filming for a training project in work - filming me doing something in POV. I have a cheap and easy head mount that my phone sits in, and that's all good - works perfectly. BUT the problem is I keep accidentally cropping the view because I can't see exactly what the camera is picking up and my head is moving. Hoping there's an app or way I can be filming on the iPhone but looking at the iPad to see where I'm at. Cheers [link] [comments]

Posted: 08 Apr 2020 11:25 AM PDT so, I have a macbook air 2017 base specs and I'm missing a second screen (and the size of them at work). Since I'm moving a lot right now (before and potentially after this quarantine) I was not willing to buy a big screen and I still have an almost unused ipad mini 2 from 2014 (since I bought the macbook my use of it declined considerably). I was thinking on buying the Duet Display (as this ipad does not update to use the Sidecar feature). Does anyone have another idea for what I could use this little fella? And, is anyone able to tell me if it would be worth it to buy the duet app given my configuration? stay safe people [link] [comments]
Looking for the best way to run windows on an iPad (yes I realize I can't install it directly). Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:52 AM PDT Currently I have an iPad 6th gen and a MacBook pro which I have bootcamped. I have 1 legacy application I use that requires windows, but I would like to switch completely over to my iPad. I was looking for a good solution to run windows on my iPad, either through VMware or any cloud hosted platform. It seems things like Amazon workspaces are more geared towards enterprise solutions. I really only need this application a couple hours a year, I use it for meet entries when I'm coaching in the fall [link] [comments]
Wondering if there is a way to turn off smart copy on my ipad? Posted: 08 Apr 2020 09:50 AM PDT Like the title says I'm looking to turn off smart copy on my ipad, I think it's happening in Safari the most. For those who don't know, when I copy and paste something there is an added space in front of whatever I'm pasting; looking to turn that off. Any insight is welcomed, thanks! Edit: I'm on an iPad Pro with 13.4 os. [link] [comments]
