    How to undo El Capitan OS on Macbook 7,1

    I dont know enough about computers to know I was screwing myself when installing El Capitan on my Macbook 7,1. It did it, but now runs terribly slow. How can I go about undoing my mistake and getting back to Snow Leopard? I do not have the original install disks. I do have an external hard drive I used to Time Machine onto a while back if that's helpful. Or do I have to get the OS disk from apple? And then what? Help is appreciated.

    So basically I lived in Canada for a few years and I came back to my country but forgot I linked my apple id with my Canada's phone number. Is there a way to get it back to my regular one? The apple id is the same address as my Gmail account btw.

    Unable to reinstall macOS during lockdown

    On literally the first day of lockdown, my iMac 21.5" 4K (purchased new in January 2019) stopped booting. I tried various startup key combinations to reset the PRAM, tried resetting the SMC, and tried reinstalling macOS (both Mojave, which came with the iMac, and Catalina), but all errors seemed to point to a broken fusion drive and the need to send in for repair. Unfortunately, there are no Apple Stores in my country, and repair centres are unavailable during lockdown.

    I ordered a replacement 1TB SSD from iFixit and seemed to successfully install that a few days ago.

    Since then, I have been unable to reinstall macOS.

    I have tried doing internet recovery, and creating bootable installer disks on a 128GB SD card (I don't have any USB drives large enough for the installer).

    When booting from the installer SD card, I get this error:

    The operation couldn't\U2019t be completed. Permission denied.

    My new 1TB SSD has been erased and formatted as APFS with GUID partition.

    When I tried installing again, the installer just quit.

    The next time I tried it, I got this error:

    An error occurred validating the installer data. The download is either damaged or incomplete. Redownload the installer and try again.

    I have also tried creating a Mojave installer, and receive one or both of the same errors.

    I have also tried resetting the date - it was correct, but in a different time zone so I used Terminal to set the date to the current date and time, but that didn't help.

    I have a full Time Machine backup on a 3TB Time Capsule. I have connected my iMac to the Time Capsule both via ethernet and Wi-Fi. Sometimes, I choose to restore from Time Machine backup and it starts, only to quit and restart the Mac after about 5 minutes, and sometimes I choose to restore from Time Machine backup but nothing happens, then the computer just restarts.

    As mentioned, I have also tried internet recovery for both Mojave and Catalina. Mojave always gets to 2 minutes remaining, then seems to hang on that screen for around 2–3 hours, before the computer eventually restarts itself and boots to a plain grey screen with a mouse cursor but nothing else.

    With Catalina internet recovery, it has never got that far. It always just shuts down and/or restarts itself at some stage before the installation is finished.

    One thing I noticed: After trying internet recovery with Mojave or Catalina, and failing, if I get into Disk Utility, it shows my new SSD has being almost empty – no evidence of any files having been installed.

    If I start the iMac and don't hold any keys down, it just boots to a flashing question mark screen.

    Can anyone help? I have severely limited technical knowledge, and cannot get any computer support during lockdown. Also, as mentioned, there are no Apple stores in my country (New Zealand).

    What is causing this pls help

    somethings wrong here. i have no idea what it is but whenever i try to edit in After Effects i get the pinwheel of death like instantly 100% of the time, and then i let it sit for a second and came back to nothing on any menus. any way to fix? i’m assuming it’s like the graphics card but idi

    Having trouble while trying to reboot my Mac

    I have a pretty old Mac, and I decided to reboot it. I erased the drive and tried to install the MacOS, but was met with an error message saying 'Could not create a prebiotic volume for AFPS install'. So, as I sort of knew the problem this is, I changed the volume to the Mac OS a Extended Journaled. But, after partitioning the disk to that volume, I had en error message that said 'The volume "Recovery" on disk1s3 couldn't be unmounted because it is in use by process 0 (kernel)'. Also, when I try to reboot using the internet recovery, I am stuck on the WiFi selection menu. Also, after a while of keeping the Mac on the WiFi selection in internet recovery, it gives me some error code with 'apple.com/support -2002F'With these messages, it makes me confused now since I'm sort of stuck in a loop of not being able to properly reboot the Mac. Would someone be able to help me with this issue? This would be very helpful! If you need any photos, I can message them to you. Thank you.

    New Macbook Pro does not recognize camera... at all

    I have a new Macbook Pro (the one where you have to connect adapters to plug in USBs and the like). P.S. Sorry I'm not super techy in the slightest. I'm trying to plug my Canon Rebel T7 to my computer and upload videos. Unfortunately, the computer does not recognize my camera at all. I already have gone into "System Information" tab and clicked "USB" to check. The computer isn't picking it up at all.

    I'm worried it is because I have to connect the camera cable to the USB adapter before I can plug it into my computer. The same issue happened when I tried to just use the SD card and SD card adapter. Are there any work-arounds? Pls help. Just bought this pricey camera and now my macbook won't even pick it up... Also, I have all software fully updated as of today.

    I’m looking for a usb c to HDMI or display port adapter in order to connect my MacBook Air 2019 to my Samsung ur55 monitor at 4K 60hz and I need a USB port in it to connect my mouse.

    Hi! I feel like my question is pretty simple, but I haven't been able to find an answer no matter how I phrase it on Google.

    Just got an iPad. I synced it with my iCloud account. It imported all my messages, iMessages and SMS. I don't want my iPad to display my SMS text messages, only my iMessages. How do I go about this? If I try to delete the messages off my iPad it deletes them off my phone too.

    Contacts are recieving messages that I never sent them.

    Multiple contacts on my phone have been getting a message from me. So far, I've had at least 4 incidents of this, all of which have received the message "Yeah" at different times. One got it around 12 PM, another at 7 AM. Should I be concerned? Is there a way to stop this?

    How can I "spiff up" my Mid 2012 15" MacBook Pro?

    I bought this laptop back in 2012 with it being my first Apple and I've been very impressed with how well it has held up over the years. Every PC would die after less then a year, but this thing is great. At the time, people were saying that Apple was getting away from allowing users to open up their laptops to upgrade them, so I figured I'd buy it so that could upgrade as I went along. I did increase the ram to 8 gigs but that's it.

    Only thing is, it has started showing signs of slowing down and become laggy.

    Specs

    • MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012)

    • Processor: 2.6 GHz Intel Core i7

    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB / Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB

    • Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

    • Hard Drive: 250 GB Flash Drive

    Admittedly I do have only 20gigs lefts on the hard drive so may need to delete a bunch of stuff.

    Also, the battery is pretty much dead, and as soon as I unplug it, it dies within a minute.

    Looking at the ifixit guides reveals quite a few upgrades available but I'm not sure which ones would get me the most bang for my buck. A battery would probably be good, and maybe replacing the CD drive with a hard drive as well? But would those make it faster?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Error connecting to Apple ID server on MacBook Pro

    hey all. on a newer MacBook Pro running most up-to-date macOS Catalina version (10.15.3), but this has been going on since before I switched to this new laptop. I was using a MacBook Air before, and several weeks ago noticed that my Messages and Notes weren't syncing between my laptop and phone. on both laptops, every time I try to log in to update my Apple ID settings in System Preferences, it thinks for a while then ends up with the error: "There was an error connecting to the Apple ID server." I'm able to log into my Apple ID account online and on my phone with no problems, so I don't think it's an issue with the password. Some of my apps even seem to sync between my devices (so far only Notes), but most (Messages, FaceTime, App Store, etc.) come up with the same error as above when I try to log in.

    I've tried just about every fix I could find online: restarting, restarting in safe mode, logging out and logging back in, changing my password, etc. etc. but nothing has worked so far. any help is much appreciated!

    MacBook Pro 13” late 2013 - Wifi won’t turn on

    Hi all, really hoping you can help as I've just gone into isolation for two weeks and my MacBook wifi seems to have died...

    Was using it yesterday when suddenly the wifi cut out. The wifi logo in top menu bar is whited out. When I go to turn it back on I get the rainbow bouncy ball and the computer hangs, searches for networks for a couple of seconds and turns off again. It seems whenever I go into the network settings/click wifi icon the computer really struggles and slows down and lags.

    These are the things I have tried and still no luck: - Restarting computer - Restart in safe mode - Deleting the wifi service under network and re-adding it - PRAM reset - SMC reset - Booting the computer in recovery mode and I still run into the same problem

    Some other things to note: - have restarted the wifi/router. Don't think this is a network issue though because wifi is running fine on my iPhone and other housemates devices - for a while on the MacBook when I login to my user account the battery icon in top bar is showing a triangle alert with exclamation point (don't know if this is related?) - One screw in the bottom plate of computer has fallen out, so there is a bit of looseness in the bottom computer plate but doesn't seem like much at all.

    Please if you can suggest anything at all, or some diagnostics I can run to find out problem I will be forever grateful so I'm not stuck without a computer for the next two weeks!

    Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

    External: 1 TB Seagate for back up.

    My SO bought Turbo Tax and when we attempted to load it onto my Mac it got stuck in a loading loop. I finally looked at the system requirements: Sierra 10.13 or later.

    I resisted upgrading when it was going to cause issues with photo files (IIRC any online sites that had direct links to my photo files would not work anymore). That is not longer a concern.

    But the issues now are:

    • Can I upgrade a 2010 Mac to Sierra?
    • Will an upgrade cause some of my current apps to stop working?
    • Will an upgrade cause the system to become noticeably slower because it overwhelms the processor?

    I do not game or (currently) edit video on my MacBook. About the most processor-intensive thing I assume I do is sometimes watch Netflix or Amazon Prime. This is a once a month thing at most (the SO and I tend to watch most shows together on the flat screen). Mostly I follow links from Reddit, order from Amazon/eBay and post on FB with it.

    My iMac wont boot after trying to set up Boot Camp

    Really strange Macbook Pro 2019, crash and restart on logging in.

    Hi all, I just received my Macbook Pro yesterday in the mail from Amazon, and while i was setting up my apps that i was downloading and such, my entire mac froze. I just hard restarted and didn't think much of it. Today, after working on it all day, i closed my laptop and plugged it in. Upon opening it, it wouldn't turn on.

    After plugging it into a charger, it turned on and I saw that it had 50%, and had apparently had a bad shut off and was attempting to reload all the apps that were closed. About 30 seconds into this, the whole screen freezes for about 5 seconds and everything becomes unresponsive, the fans suddenly whir up to the max, and then the laptop turns off, only to restart a few seconds later. No matter what I do, whether I try to close out all the apps as they open up, or restart the computer from the user screen, or try to shut off the computer after i log in, the next time i try to log in it will always end up trying to boot up all the apps, freezing after 30 seconds, then whir the fans and restart once more.

    I've tried to boot up in Recovery mode (cmdR). However halfway through, the computer freezes, turns into a blank white screen, whirs the fan then restarts. I've also tried the internet recovery option, and it gives me the countdown for about 6 minutes then goes into another load bar and does the same white screen-then-die cycle.

    This laptop is very important for my work and productivity, so if someone can help me i would be very grateful.

    hey guys, I recently purchased a used macbook pro. It was factory reset.. to the mountain lion OS(previously was mojave)

    when attempting to install the latest OS from the app store is says I need version 10.9 or Mavericks. Where do I install this version from. Nothing s in the previous purchases area of the store. Thanks for any help
