Father has passed away and need some help Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:19 PM PDT Sadly my father passed away on Saturday due to this horrible virus and unfortunately the hospital lost his belongings including his phone. The phone company has sent me a new sim which I want to put into an old phone so I can use it so people can reach out to him and I let them know of the situation. I don't know his iCloud password and wanted to ask can I just put the sim into a new phone or will it ask me for an iCloud account ? Can anyone also give me some advice on how I can get access to his iCloud - he has many photos that I am keen to have access too Thanks for your help Dan [link] [comments] |
Modifying a recently refurbished 2019 iMac Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:05 PM PDT So I'm about to purchase a refurbished 2019 iMac from Apple and I had a question in regards to storage. Unfortunately, the iMac will come with a 1TB Fusion Drive. My plan is to replace it as soon as I get it. My question: should I go through the trouble of opening it up and replacing the drive with a SSD or just run an external SSD into the computer? Bonus: any recs for an internal or external SSD are greatly appreciated! Thank you everyone!!! [link] [comments] |
Replacing 2017 MacBook Pro SSD Myself or Through Apple? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 09:28 AM PDT The past two months, my MacBook has been booting up in various frequencies in which a file folder with a question mark pops up. I have done just about everything (wipe it clean and install a new OS and then my Time Machine backup, and also not even using my Time Machine backup after wiping it clean) but send it and get it replaced in 2-4 weeks. Unfortunately, I do not have that luxury since I'm in the middle of a PhD program, writing my dissertation, and also taking my qualifying exams in May. I cannot be without a laptop for two weeks as that will make me lose a lot of progress in my program and I also need to use STATA and/or R for my papers I am working on. At this point, would it be easier and safer (not trying to risk getting COVID-19 and I live with immunocompromised people) by buying a new SSD and a a SSD replacement kit from Amazon and fixing this myself? It would take like what, an hour or two at the most? What if it is just a loose cable that is causing this? [link] [comments] |
Beats solo pro crackling in one side of headphones Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:08 PM PDT Bought pair of beats solo pro wireless noise canceling headphones about a month ago. About two days ago I noticed a intermittent popping and almost staticky sound coming from the right side of the headset. I've tried restarting/ resetting the headset with no luck. Any ideas for how to fix this at home? Or would it be best to send to Apple? Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Looking for Apple System Diagnostics (ASD) 3S152 Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:27 PM PDT Hello Applehelp, I'm looking for ASD 3S152: ASD 3S152 iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2012) Mac mini (Late 2012) Mac mini Server (Late 2012) MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2012) I've done my google searches but everything I found leads to dead links. Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:11 PM PDT Does anybody know of a setting in MacOS (or iOS) that enables the MacOS messages app to display all SMS messages from my iPhone, rather than just messages from other iOS devices? Is this feature blocked because of some security reasons or something? [link] [comments] |

Anyone aware of something i can attach to an Apple Pencil 2 to keep track of it? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:51 PM PDT I find myself losing my Apple Pencil quite frequently (just around the house or whatever) and I was wondering if anyone knew of something that could be attached to it to help keep track? Like maybe a device that could emit a loud beep when I activate it in an app or something like that. [link] [comments] |
(Macbook pro) Mid 2012 model running Catalina - Gatekeeper cannot be bypassed Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:14 PM PDT Hi! Posting this again because I am having the same problem on another laptop. This one is driving me crazy. Hopefully, someone can help! Hi! So I am trying to install an app on my laptop. Before I was able to copy and paste "sudo spctl –master-disable" to Terminal, change my security setting to allow apps downloaded from "Anywhere". I tried it about 3 times in the last 20 mins and once I paste the command to Terminal I get this long message after entering my password and the "anywhere" option has not appeared: System Policy Basic Usage: spctl --assess [--type type] [-v] path ... # assessment spctl --add [--type type] [--path|--requirement|--anchor|--hash] spec ... # add rule(s) spctl [--enable|--disable|--remove] [--type type] [--path|--requirement|--anchor|--hash|--rule] spec # change rule(s) spctl --status | --master-enable | --master-disable # system master switch Developer Mode Usage: spctl developer-mode <action> enable-terminal Add Terminal as a developer tool. Unauthorized Apple Pay transactions randomly appeared Posted: 01 Apr 2020 09:21 PM PDT Today I got some Apple Pay notifications from my wallet app on my iPhone for transactions I did not make/authorize. All at the same time, and each was instantly declined. I don't recognize any of the merchants and when I googled them they're all from places from a different country. I'm so confused as to how this could have even happened? For an Apple Pay transaction to go through it needs to happen on my device. I also need to authenticate it with faceID, but I never got asked.. I called my credit card company as well as my bank for Apple Pay support and and they didn't recognize any of the declined charges shown in the wallet app. They suggested speaking with Apple. I was able to get in contact with Apple support and got help for Apple Pay, they were all as baffled as I was. They didn't understand how this happened. They also couldn't see anything because Apple said they don't log any Apple Pay information on their end for privacy issues, they just provide the Apple Pay service and everything else is stored encrypted on your phone. Apple said to contact my bank and get them to cancel the charges but all those charges already got declined and didn't go through. So something in the pipeline picked up that this is a fraudulent transaction. I am more worried about how this happened in the first place but Apple wasn't sure. It can't be that my iCloud account or credit card details got compromised, I wouldn't have gotten the Apple wallet notifications on my iPhone if that was the case. Has any ever run into this before? I'm not sure how to proceed.. My bank didn't know what to do, Apple didn't know what to do and nobody can give me any information on what's going on. I couldn't find any cases of someone experiencing anything remotely close to this before. I appreciate any kind of help. [link] [comments] |

2012 MBP OS update before hardware upgrade? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 01:43 PM PDT Hello, please excuse lack of knowledge in this subject. I'm trying to upgrade a mid 2012 MBP to an SSD. It's currently running Mac OS Sierra. My question is do I need to update to the current version of Mac OS before I replace the hard drive? Or do I update after. I heard the current version of Mac OS is supposed to 'organize' your files to better work with SSDs [link] [comments] |
AirPods Charging Case Status Light Doesn’t Come On Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:45 PM PDT I just picked up a brand new pair of AirPods, second generation if I'm correct. However, the light for the charging case is always off and the headphones won't charge, but when I plug in my lightning cable, it says the case is fully charged and the status light turns green. Additionally, whenever I open the charging case, the pop-up doesn't appear on my phone screen. I've already reset my AirPods a few times but the same issue keeps occurring. Any ideas of what could be wrong or how to fix this? [link] [comments] |
I can't update from OS X Catalina 0.15.3 Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:23 PM PDT I tried clicking the "Update now" button, but an error message would pop up saying : "Download failed. An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again." The thing is, I already have a good internet connection, and I was wondering if anyone knows what the actual problem is. Note: I've dual booted my Mac to have Windows 10. Could it be that it's because I ignored the Boot Camp Assistant update when I was using Windows 10? [link] [comments] |
Can’t close Reddit on iPad Mini Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:02 PM PDT I can't close reddit. I tried asking Siri, the system won't shut down, and clicking on "All Photos" does nothing. Help! [link] [comments] |
How can I speed up the endless iCloud syncing processes? Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:52 PM PDT My Macbook Air regularly goes into high CPU usage whenever the weird Apple processes like 'bird' and 'nurlsessiond' start running. It's totally opaque to me what it's doing, and since I updated to Catalina two days ago, they have been running non-stop! The progress pie chart in the Finder over iCloud indicates it's still less than 5% done, even though I don't have a lot on my Mac... I know the magic solution is to just stop using iCloud, but I want to use it to keep on backing up my photos. What can one do to solve this? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro USB-C -> HDMI chroma configuration Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:33 PM PDT Hi, I was hoping to use a TV as an external monitor and picked up a USB-C hub w/ 4k@60 support. However, when running at 60Hz, text is not clear - it appears to be not running in 4:4:4 chroma. If I switch to 30Hz the text is crisp. I can't see anywhere in MacOS that says what the display is running for chroma - does anyone know? Macbook Pro 15-inch, 2017, running Mojave 10.14.6. (And yes, the TV reports 4k@60 - but it has no more signal diagnostics that I can find to show the exact details). From my desktop w/ a Nvidia 970 gpu I can drive the same TV, same port, same HDMI cable, at 4k@60 4:4:4 chroma with HDR. [link] [comments] |

My parents have Screentime set up on my device and it keeps breaking. Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:01 PM PDT Every couple months, the settings reset to where instead of being able to request more time, I can choose to ignore limit. How can it be fixed to where it won't keep going back to that? [link] [comments] |
iMac and Logitech connection issues after wake from sleep Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:54 PM PDT Hello, I was wondering if anyone might have any ideas why my logitech products sometimes seem to lose their connection to my iMac after I wake the iMac (Late 2017, 27in.) from sleep. It seems to be the mouse (MX Master 3) more than the keyboard (MX Keys Advanced) but both do it. For the mouse, after I get the screen to turn back on and go to the login page, the mouse will not connect, the light on the #1 under the mouse slowly flashes before turning off. Nothing I do will re-connect the mouse except restarting the iMac. When I restart it works fine. I have tried making sure its fully charged, I have tried making sure logi options is running, although it seems to work fine if it isn't running too, but that's what I have tried. It seems to happen once a day, usually when I get home from work, so the longer the iMac has been asleep, once I get it working, if I leave it for an hour and come back it usually is fine. I haven't totally been able to narrow it down to any specific action or length of time though. The keyboard happens much less, but does happen. The keyboard is the only thing that wakes the iMac to the log in page, the mouse never does. So I will have times where the keyboard isn't connected, or so it seems, and so the screen wont even turn on for me to log in, even though I know the iMac is on, if I press the power button on the iMac the login screen comes on, but I can't type. Did the same thing as I did with the mouse, charging, and having logi options on, but still happens. Any advice our thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
