As a lifetime Surface/Android user, what apps should I pick up for my Ipad Pro?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 11:47 AM PST

I picked up a pro to set up a Creative workstation for everything I want to learn and do. I have:

    • Procreate for Art

    • Scrivener for Writing

    • Symphony Pro for writing music

    • Garage Band to screw around with a different type of music making

    • ForScore for managing sheet music

    • Onenote to use all my notes from my old surface

I know there are a ton of quality apps, but I have no idea what they are, as Im just dipping my toes into apple

Professor's Attitudes on Using iPad for Notes

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:08 PM PST

Since I now have found out that I will be going to grad school (fully funded Ph.D - woo!) I'm thinking about getting an iPad (hopefully Pro) on which to take notes.

I've almost exclusively been a notebook and pen note-taker but think that since graduate classes are more applicable to my future career having neater, better organized notes might be to my advantage if I want to reference things later. Plus, if I want to have physical reference materials I could print and bind the notes for future use. A lot of the time traditional notebooks get well worn and often things are hard to find in them making them something I don't really find useful for future applications.

I've had a lot of profs who frown on or disallow taking notes on the computer. Some don't like it because there's data to support the idea that people learn better when hand writing. Other believe they can be a distraction to you and other students. Most of my favorite professors have been these sort of traditionalists who either don't allow laptops for notes or make their users sit in the back row. (I am not a back row kind of student.)

Now that I'm more seriously considering an iPad for notes I wonder how accepted this form of note taking will be in the classroom as I don't want to shell out a bunch of money and then have my professors not be friendly to this form of technology.

Has anyone had experience with professors not allowing an iPad for notes?

how to make handwritten notes in files not so infuriating?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 12:56 PM PST

maybe this is a stupid question but i'm going to ask anyway because i'm desperate. i've been trying to do handwritten notes on my e-textbook in the files app but i'm having this extremely frustrating issue where my hand will accidentally press on the little bar of page thumbnails on the right and jump to another page... while i'm trying to write. it's super irritating and i'm not sure what to do? i keep trying to save the textbook to the books app but it never stays there — whenever i leave the app the book is no longer saved there and all my annotations will be gone when i load it in again. any tips on how to make the page thumbnails bar in files go away when i'm trying to write, or how to make the book stay in the books app? i hope i explained this well enough.

Play Gforce now on iOS device with supported PC as Host

What’s some way you manage lots of PDFs files? What’s your workflow? Apple Books, Files App, Notes App? 3rd party app? Looking for ideas. Would prefer some of the Apple Apps but welcome 3rd party apps if I have to

Anyone know how to base64 code involving the smart connectors?

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 08:47 PM PST

I am trying to create the ultimate hybrid experience, and need a little help. I'm trying to create a shortcut that will read when I have connected or disconnect my Logitech Slim Combo Keyboard form the smart connectors. I believe I have to write the Base64 code, and have no idea how to do that. If anyone knows how to do this let me know. Or if you seen an article on how to do this can you link it?

    Mini 5 screen question

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 06:42 PM PST

So I've had the mini 5 for around 3 months now, previously had the mini 2 for around 4 years.

Everything is great except when I'm watching movies on the Apple TV app I feel that there is an overglow on top of the movie. I don't have the brightness very high at all but even on minimal brightness it really affects the screen. If I'm watching scenes that take place at night the picture looks washed out and not vivid at all.

I have checked and I don't believe it's from an ips overglow but just the brightness itself.

Am considering sending it back but I think it's just how the display is, the mini 2 wasn't like this though at all, the black bars at the top and bottom of a movie actually looked vivid, whereas on the mini 5 the backlight seems to be on top of the movie if that makes sense.

And it really noticeable at night in a dark room

    Anyone else noticing this?
