Apple TV + Homepods + YouTube = horrible

    Posted: 26 Feb 2020 03:37 AM PST

I use my Apple TV always with HomePods. Every time I need to set audio out to HomePod, which is already quite annoying. But YouTube brings this to a whole new level. This is what I need to do, every time (while HomePods are already connected to my Apple TV) - start YouTube, start a clip. - no sound. - go so audio out settings. - disable HomePod. - enable HomePod. - disable Apple TV. - go back to YouTube. Play video. Audio out of sync. - force close YouTube. - start YouTube, start clip. Yay.

Why does YouTube not accept my audio out settings? It is the only app. They don't have onscreen audio out settings. So annoying.

    Inconsistent volume between apps.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 02:19 PM PST

Hi everyone, I'm running an Apple TV 4K through a Denon AVR X2400H. I don't know if this is a common issue but I'm getting terribly inconsistent volume when I switch between apps. I feel like music and podcasts are loud while almost all other apps are very quiet. Is this something I'm imagining, or is this something others have noticed as well?

Beyond frustrated with apps and TV provider

I have three Apple TV's and almost every month, my apps log me out of my TV provider. It is driving me crazy and I've had enough.

    Playing Apple TV overnight

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 09:40 PM PST

So I use the Relax Melodies app on my phone but I wanna use it for my Apple TV in my studio apt to use the theater setup. But whenever I turn the TV off, the Apple TV continues playing then stops abruptly after 12-15 minutes. Otherwise I need to keep the TV on to let it keep playing sound.

I checked the settings and sleep is disabled. Is this a bug?

Echo Keeps Stealing Speaker Default in AppleTV

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:47 PM PST

I set up our Apple TV to work with the Amazon Alexa (Echo Plus and Dot) via Bluetooth -- this gives us the ability to play, pause, etc, which is great. However, it also seems to steal the default speaker settings on the Apple TV if the Apple TV is left off for too long...

So, for example, even though I set the living room AppleTV (AGAIN! Settings -> Video and Audio -> Audio Output) last night to use the Sony TV speakers, I came home tonight, turned on the TV/AppleTV and the AppleTV was again set to play sound through the Echo speakers instead. How do I stop it from hijacking the settings? (And is this an Apple or Amazon issue? It also happens with the Panasonic TV upstairs, so I assume it is not a Sony problem...)

Anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance!

Has Apple acknowledged/addressed the horrible UI input lag in its Gen3/Gen4 Apple TV's?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 01:48 PM PST

I have a Gen2 AppleTV, which I generally like, except for the UI's input lag. Has this been addressed in the Gen3 or Gen4 models?

    ATV4 Remote Connection Lost

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 06:37 AM PST

Hey guys, my remote seems to lose connection every once in a while, where it constantly goes between "Connected" and "Connection Lost" back and forth. I thought maybe it was low on charge, but that's not it. Anyone know why this is?

    Streaming issues

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 08:44 AM PST

Trying to stream GoPro footage from a PC on my home network, using Plex and FileExplorer on my ATVHD , both have severe lag. How would I either diagnose the network bottleneck, or use a different system that might be able to compress/convert the footage? Tia

Nothing on Amazon Prime / Netflix will play on my new 4k :(

    Posted: 25 Feb 2020 01:11 PM PST

I just bought an Apple TV 4K today and got it home and quite frankly I'm sad. All the Apple stuff works fine, as does YouTube etc. But nothing on Netflix / Amazon Prime video. Literally the stream hangs immediately with a black screen on play.

Cable is AmazonBasics. TV is a Samsung LT32E310. I've tried another HDMI cable. Same result. TV works with netflix and a Xbox One.

Is this likely an TV not supporting HDCP properly issue? I think Netflix complained once about non HDCP compliant cable or TV. I can't find any info on if the TV supports HDCP or not.

Not end of the world. I'd like to confirm this before I drop kick the damn television out of the window and buy a new one.

Edit: so I spent an entire two hours pissing around with this to find that you can't get a new TV now which is both decent and not crawling with smart features. so I've decided the pragmatic thing to do is to just say fuck it and be done with it. The Apple TV is going back in the box and the content creators can go to hell. By the time I've got this sorted I'd be down £530 for a minor improvement in convenience. It's not worth it.

This is not a reflection on Apple who have made an excellent product but on HDMI and HDCP which is just the worst "standard" there is and to all the other vendors pushing half baked spyware laden crap into expensive disposable televisions which I'm expected to foot the bill for the upgrade cycle. No way. I'm done
