torn between getting the 16" macbook pro OR a RTX laptop for video editing

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 09:39 PM PST

Hi guys, I REALLY NEED HELP.

The current spec I'm looking at is

    • 2.4GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
    • 32GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
    • AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB of GDDR6 memory
    • 512GB SSD storage

the latest 16inch Macbook pro 2019. (this cost me around 3,353 USD)

    VERSUS

any other high end gaming laptop ( I have no idea which one is better but I kept hearing any high end laptop will cost waaaaay lesser than this macbook pro (which is true) and you will get better specification)

I'm literally torn between this two, and I'm sorry I really need the portability as I have to be out and around with my video editing work.

Really need advice here :( thanks guys!

Anyone struggling with 120gb SSD and Catalina too?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 07:26 PM PST

Anyone here upgrade their SSD on their macbook air before?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:42 PM PST

considering doing it for a macbook air 2010 or 11, have to check which one it is. Anyone have any recommended video or supply source(amazon perhaps?), and type to get?

    https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=how+to+upgrade+ssd+on+macbook+air+2011&page=&utm_source=opensearch

This would be an upgrade from a 128 to a 256 GB I think, unless 512GB isn't much more to upgrade. Presume I need to be super careful.

Also, how to ensure all the data/files, etc, are properly saved and transported over?

    buy 300$ late 2012 13" MBP retina vs. 500$ early 2013 15" MBP retina?

    buy 300$ late 2012 13" MBP retina vs. 500$ early 2013 15" MBP retina?

    hi Macbookers,

i have a friend telling me he will let go his 2 MBPs. and i will definitely pick one up for upgrading my non-retina 2013 macbook air.

but im a little confused which one should i pick.

    300$ MacBook Pro Retina (13-inch, Late 2012) Processor: 2.5 Ghz Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB. 120GB SSD

    1. pro: 200$ cheaper.
    2. con: other than the retina screen, everything else seems quite just like my 2013 macbook air

500$ MacBook Pro Retina (15-inch, Early 2013) Processor: 2.7 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 Memory: 16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB. 760 GB HDD

    1. pro: better CPU, GPU, RAM, larger screen.
    2. con: 200$ more, and IT IS HDD!

if it was not the HDD, i will hesitate no time picking the the 15 inch. but i have owned HDD macbooks and SSD macbooks. i know how much difference the speed can be... and very unfortunate, the retina MBP SSD part is more expensive that the regular 2.5" SSD (i used to upgrade my 2009 MBP and 2013 imac with 2.5" decent price SSD).

"which one to pick" - this decision is so hard to make right now.

any suggestions is very appreciated! thanks =D

Last Gen MacBook Air still worth purchasing in 2020?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 07:31 PM PST

I saw the last gen macbook air at best buy for $750. I had this model at work and I really enjoyed it more than the current gen model. I also like that it has a usb and not the new inputs they put in to the new model where you're forced to buy an adapter.

If I buy the last gen for home use (internet, email, some excel spreadsheets), how long will the life of it be considering possible new technology coming out on the web in the next few years.

Macbook pro 2013 trackpad is inverted but all settings are normal

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 06:59 PM PST

i just woke up one day to the trackpad being inverted. i've tried trouble shooting the settings i've tried reverse scroller. when i turn off my macbook and turn it back on the track pad is normal only for a second before it goes back to inverted. the only thing that works is using an external mouse but it's pretty inconvenient since i'm constantly traveling with my computer to and from school. any suggestions?

    Opinion on Pro 13 2015

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 05:45 AM PST

Basically my budget is low and I can buy a MacBook pro 2015. I need It for studying purposes such as Swift for iOS app development, classes and personal use such as email, movies and personal projects. I'm afraid It wont be supported in 2 more years.

    Cheers

Suggestions Please: Any options/suggestions for increasing the storage on my MacBook Air

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 04:44 PM PST

Hey guys! I am SO HAPPY to be back with Mac! It has been a while but I definitely prefer Mac.

I am running a 2015 MacBook Air. This thing is in GREAT condition and looks as if the girl who owned in never moved or even touched the thing.

The last Mac I had did NOT have an SSD and the difference is amazing. The one complaint I have though is that the SSD is 128gb. I was told that any SSD other than what Mac uses will be garbage.

Is that true? I am not able to spend a lot on this. Would this work: https://www.staplesadvantage.com/WD-Blue-3D-NAND-500GB-PC-SSD--SATA-III-6-Gb-s-M-2-2280-Solid-State-Drive--WDS500G2B0B-/product_IM19U7003

Would it be better just to get an external hard drive for my files?

Is it possible to use an external hard drive as a place for time machine backups AND a place where you can store and easily access random files? If so, do you need an HDD or SSD?

2015 MacBook Air start up external HDMI screen

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 11:02 AM PST

My screen is broken on my MacBook Air. Looking for how to set up MacBook so it goes directly to external screen on boot up. Have Bluetooth keyboard and mouse set up.

Currently have to type in password on MacBook Air laptop keyboard (hit enter key and type blindly as can't see on screen)

Have googled but can't find answer. Using Catalina if that matters.

    Thanks!

No more space on password protected folder on MacBook

    Posted: 23 Feb 2020 03:35 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I have just created a password protected folder on my MacBook, I did this by going to "disk utility" in my launchpad > file > new image > image from folder and then chose the folder I want to put a password on and selected "read/write" and 128 encryption and entered my new password for the folder.

However, I can only move like 3 images in the folder and then it says it's full with no more space but I have 60+ gb ledt on my Mac, is there some way I need to allocate for space to this .dmg folder or have I done something wrong?

    Please help!
