MacBook keeps crashing whenever I close it for an extended period of time(around 20ish minutes)

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:32 PM PST

I noticed that it started happened on the last Catalina patch during one of my classes. I didn't think of it much until it happened later on again during another class. It basically just randomly crashes and restarts whenever I close the lid. It opens up past the lock screen with a crash report, but I'm not really sure how to go about identifying the problem. Is this happening to anyone else? My MacBook is the 2019 13" MacBook Pro.

Looking to buy a used Macbook Pro, what models would you suggest?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 07:49 PM PST

I have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro that I got some water damage on, so they keyboard is no longer working. I've never upgraded the internals or anything, so its pretty slow (still has the original HDD). Battery is also in need of replacement soon. At this point, I don't see the point in fixing up this one and want to just commit to getting a newer model. However I can't justify paying for a brand new one, so I've been looking at either a used or refurbished one. I guess I am mostly wondering, what years would make sense to purchase from?

If it helps, its main use is for my work, so running programs like MATLAB, GIS, statistical programming, etc. I also am a hobby photographer, and use photoshop for editing. I do a little bit of gaming, but nothing really intense.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Water spill - bring to a repair service or not?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 05:39 PM PST

On Sunday I spilled very little water on my 2017 12 inch Retina MacBook, and it only covered a small section of the keyboard. I inmediately flipped it and managed to get rid of most of the water, then dried it with a rag, turned it off, flipped it and let it dry for more than 100 hours now.

Tonight I'm gonna turn it on to see if it works, but I'm considering taking a further step and taking it to a professional to make sure it's all cleaned - I was quoted $175 minimum charge which is no issue at all.

It's just that I've seen many testimonies of people that fixed similar issues just by drying it, while also a lot of people warn of catastrophic consequences if the MacBook isn't checked by a repair technician.

I don't mind paying, but I'm a student and I have to balance out my decisions. Considering it was a small spill and I reacted quickly, how likely is it that I'd be fine just by drying it?

Also people that had the same issue and didn't bring it to a repair shop: can you leave your long-term experience? Did you ever have problems months after the spill or did it all work out fine?

Will Apple stop supporting 2015 MBP in the next few years?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:57 AM PST

I don't want to spend too much money and I'm happy with the 2015 model MBP.

I'm just scared that if I buy it it Apple will stop supporting it in a few years.

Or if they stop supporting it could I still use it for software development?

Macbook Pro 20 15'' 2018 glitch on YouTube 4k videos

Macbook Pro 20 15'' 2018 glitch on YouTube 4k videos

    Hello everybody.

I'm afraid my GPU is having some problem or will have some big problems soon. If I watch real 4k videos with my 2018 MacBook Pro and I enter fullscreen mode, as soon as the bar is disappearing the screen is turning in a total glitch (not even the entire screen, somehow the video get smaller and got in the 3/4 on the left).

How can I solve it? Is there anything I can do?

Thank you very much in advance.

    example

    High Sierra 10.13.16, i7 version

    Boot camp question

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:00 PM PST

So I was wondering if I were to run boot camp to switch from os to Windows would I still be able to run Logic Pro if I switched back. My only worry is that by doing this id lose some of my apps such as logic pro but I'm not sure if this is a real concern. Probably a dumb question but thank you anyways haha.

Dumb question thats hard to google

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:08 PM PST

Okay so I have a question that I'm sure is a super easy fix, but its really hard to word it correctly and google exactly what I mean

On my MacBook pro, when you three-finger swipe up, you get to switch between virtual desktop 1,2,3. All of these virtual desktops are just mirrors of each other. so If I have chrome and Spotify open on desktop 1, and want to switch to desktop 2 to open up photoshop, its gonna end up mirroring desktop 1 by showing chrome and Spotify.

How can I unlink the desktops so they work independently of eachother?

2019 Macbook 13 inch 2 Thunderbolt ports 16/256 A little over two weeks later (Just an update for those looking at this Laptop for themselves)

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 09:54 AM PST

Bought this Macbook Pro off the Refurb store with Applecare+, came out to roughly $1,850. Saved a little over $150 or got the extra 8GB for the same Price new depending on perspective I guess.

Accessories I bought an highly recommend:

SanDisk 128 GB USB C/A Dual drive (This is for me and my friend who has an older 2012 Mac so we can share files, I've got every episode of Rick and Morty in HD so that's nice.)

TomToc Dark Blue/Orange Soft interior Sleeve off Amazon. Seriously buy this thing.

Both products were $20 and I could go on about either.

There's absolutely nothing I'd change about my Macbook. The battery life is slightly shorter than expected. The Image quality, sound, snappiness, and build are top class. I actually love the Keyboard, if they get rid of it I'm happy I snagged the last year. If anyone has any questions about this Macbook I'll answer to the best of my ability.

2020 Macs are coming with scissors, but probably not the base model so it would of been out of my budget anyhow. 5 solid years and I'll be content, that's a dollar a year I paid to use this thing. Worth every cent. I'm so glad I didn't get a Surface 3 or some unreliable piece of Windows shit with zero support. My friend showed me Mac Keyboard shortcuts and it's blowing my mind how easy everything is.

    Thanks in advance
