TIP: Perhaps one of my favourite uses to increase my productivity: the stopwatch

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:04 AM PST

I've only had my Apple Watch for two months now and there were a lot of apps I expected to help me but the most useful one I didn't - the stopwatch.

I was aware of the '2 -minute rule', which helps counter procrastination by immediately doing things that take 2 minutes (or anything from 0-5). Or it helps with bigger task, by starting with the smallest things you can do, getting over that initial inertia.

I've now put the stopwatch on my home screen, and every time I don't feel like doing something (e.g. clean my room, getting up from the couch etc), I'll tap my stopwatch, press the standard 3 minutes and will start doing the thing I'm procrastinating on for just those 3 minutes.

Every time it helps me get into action, and because the 3 minutes feel so short, I also do it with good pace. Also, I almost always find myself going longer than those 3 minutes, just to finish it up.

I found this article to be very useful as well on this topic: Medium

Hope this helps/inspires others to use their watch in the same way, it's perhaps one of my favourite uses!

Does anyone know how to turn off this feature which appears automatically when using Spotify? It’s not as useful when I’m in the car listening and controlling my music.

Make Dock a 3x4 grid of icons / complications

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 01:27 AM PST

The Dock would be way more useful if you could just press the Dock button and then tap the app you want, without any scrolling.

The List View for the All Apps chooser is really clear and quick, and I think the Dock is less useful, having to use the crown to scroll through the docked apps and seeing part of a screenshot from each that may not have even been updated.

I'd like to see the 10 docked apps either as icons or preferably as (graphic) circular complications, plus the most recently used app, and a link to the All Apps chooser (just as we see now in the Dock when we scroll through it).

What I'd like even more is if this Dock were in the place of Control Center. We could use the current Dock button to get to control center instead.

    Smart Wake Alarms?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 05:06 AM PST

    Hi all

After years with fitbit i am nervously and tentatively making the switch to apple watch. I have iphone, apple music, apple tv etc so it makes sense.

However, i love the silent, vibrating wrist alarm on my fitbit ionic that wakes me up at an optimum time up to 30 mins before my alarm.

Does such a reliable app exist for apple watch? Ill be charging my watch in an evening so i can sleep in it.

Comparing my old Pebble Time Steel with my new Apple Watch

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:36 AM PST

I was an early adopter of the smart watch concept. I had both the first and second kickstarter watch from Pebble. My last Pebble was the Time Steel. I was still wearing it daily in December, when I upgraded to an S5 GPS watch, aluminum, sport band. Love it, but the only real adjustment was the reduced battery life.

Even my 4 year old Pebble battery lasted 4 days. When it was new, the battery lasted 8 days. The Apple Watch needs to be recharged pretty much daily. Longest mine's lasted in 1-1/2 days, until yesterday, when I turned off "always on display" and haven't missed it one bit. The battery life is still at 73% after 12 hours off the charger. I hope I might be able to only recharge every other night now.

    Tips for Transitioning from FitBit?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 12:04 AM PST

I got an Apple Watch for Christmas after using a Fitbit for a while, and the transition has been and still is incredibly rough. I miss the readily available step counter (and all the apps with complications I've tried are fairly ugly, to be honest.) The battery life is frustrating, even when I disabled the always-on screen, and I feel like it vibrates randomly when I haven't gotten any notifications. Does anyone have any tips to ease the transition, or app recommendations that can help replace the Fitbit daily step counter?

    Regional stores

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:59 AM PST

    Hi,

Hopefully someone can help me here, or at least point me in the right direction. I have an Apple Account that was originally created in France but I have now returned back to the UK and switched the store back to UK. Since doing this I have had no issues on my phone but my watch hasn't been so straight forward. I keep getting an error message (see image) on the watch but I have no idea what it is talking about - i've already switched regions on my phone.

    Any ideas?

Does anyone have any experience with the fall detection feature on the Apple Watch

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:24 PM PST

My organisation (disability support) is looking to purchase as Apple watch for a gentleman who lives alone who is getting to the age where he could be prone to falls. We would be getting the model with cellular data. Does anyone have any first hand experience using the watch and specifically the fall detection feature or at least know someone who has? The pros/cons/how did it perform etc? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

P.S I am aware of the high-profile news articles about the Apple Watch saving certain people's lives. I just seeking a bit more personalised experience.

How reliably do LTE watches actually connect and receive remote service?

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:17 AM PST

I have an LTE series 4 that I am thinking about activating. My question is, how reliable are they for actually connecting to LTE and working as expected when you don't have your phone with you? Does the LTE connection sometimes fail?

Reason I ask is that I will often walk my dog and leave my phone at home. About 1/3 of the time, my Samsung LTE watch for some reason loses its remote connection to my phone, so I don't receive any notifications until I get home. Signal strength is excellent so that is not the problem.

So for those of you who regularly leave your phone behind and rely solely on your LTE watch, how often do you return to your phone to find that for some reason your watch did not have a good LTE connection and/or notifications did not get forwarded to your LTE watch while you were gone?

Please help! Heart rate monitor issue while recording a running workout.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:14 PM PST

I record my workouts with the built-in Apple Workouts app then export data to HealthFit and Strava. The past few workouts I've recorded I noticed very sporadic intermittent heart rate readings. This is what it looks like in my HealthFit app.

I might be experiencing what is known as "cadence lock." This is specific to running, and happens when the watch mistakes the increase in blood pressure when you take a step for a heartbeat. And then the watch mistakes cadence for your heart rate. Because otherwise I think I've tried everything. Tightening the watch band, cleaning the sensor, unpairing, restarting, etc.😬

I'm using a pretty new Series 4 Nike version, GPS-only.

Any thoughts or advice? I don't care enough about heart rate to get a chest strap, but I would like it to at least read consistently throughout the entire work out. Even if it's off by a few beats per minute.

    Activity Congratulations?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:54 PM PST

I just started sharing activity progress with a couple friends, and it's very motivating seeing others make progress throughout the day. It's one of the things I loved about my old Fitbit. I recently received a notification that one of my friends closed all her rings, and I wanted to give her congratulations. However, I didn't see a way to do that from the watch or on the Activity app. Is there a way to do this?

    Milanese band slipping?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 03:38 PM PST

I just got a series 5 last week with a Milanese band. I'm finding myself adjusting it every 15-20 minutes to tighten it up. Is this normal?

I'm also getting quite a bit of "exercise" credit in the activity app which is completely bogus, and I'm wondering if it is due to the band loosening.

I have a appointment at the Apple store tomorrow to talk to them about it, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this problem or has any tips to keep it tightened.

FWIW, I have the band with the loop at the bottom (toward my thumb).

Issues with sharing Activity with someone.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:00 AM PST

I got an Apple Watch Series 4 and restored it from the old 2 I had.

All my friends in Activity were still there so my Sister in Law wanted to do a competition.

I sent her a challenge and apparently she sent me one as well.

Neither of us received it from the other, but both our apps said it was waiting on the other to accept.

So I removed her as a friend and tried to readd her. My invites never get to her and her's never get to me.

I can invite other people just fine. I can challenge other people just fine, but for some reason we can not pair back up.

    Any suggestions?

EDIT : As I was not clear on all things I have done.

I have also wiped the watch and set it up as new. No Luck

I have tried Apple Supports suggestions such as restoring phone, signing out off iCloud and iMessage then restarting and signing back in.

Most solutions I have sought on the internet have not worked, and once again it is just for one specific individual. I can add new people, I removed my wife and added her back. I have sent challenges to others.

I do not think it is the phone or the watch, but something else that I have been unable to figure out.

I noted that when I turned off iMessage that she at least came up as a "Suggested" friend. This is not something that happens when iMessage is on.

How to change an alarm vibration

    Posted: 07 Jan 2020 02:47 AM PST

Hello, guys! Actually it's a duplicate of a question here https://www.reddit.com/r/AppleWatch/comments/5zhzee/request_how_to_change_alarm_vibration_patterns/
but there was no answer and it was 2 years ago.
Maybe something has been changed since that.

I've been using amazfit pace for one year and get used to an alarm. Light vibration is so nice and let me wake up with no shock and unpleasant feelings. I definitely like it.

I've bought AW a few days ago and alarm vibration is terrible, it makes me feel irritated. I hate how sudden and rude it is.

Is there an third-party alarm app that let use different vibrations or add your own?

Siri: "Uh-Oh, lost the connection." and other reliability issues.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 11:54 AM PST

I use the "Hey Siri" feature on practically a daily basis, most commonly for simple timers while cooking. For the last few months, every time I ask Siri to set a timer, she'll respond with "Uh-Oh, lost the connection." but then roll right into the task I've requested without skipping a beat.

Any idea what I can do to resolve this? I'm using an Apple Watch Series 4 and an iPhone SE, all updated to their latest respective operating system releases.

Also, notifications will randomly get sent to my phone instead of my watch, with no rhyme or reason. I often find myself sitting at work and feeling the phone in my pocket vibrate with a notification even though I'm wearing my watch and it's unlocked. I've gone through all my settings and nothing seems to be amiss, but I was wondering if anyone know why this would be happening.

    Thanks.

Any recent info / rumors about pulse oximeter support?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 09:31 AM PST

Hey all, was recently skiing at a very high altitude and was introduced to a pulse oximeter wrist strap by someone in our party; got to talking about how his data changed at altitude, its effects on sleep, how it changed from day one on the mountain, etc. Then, I read that as far back as 2015, there have been suggestions from disassemblers that Watch has the necessary hardware to perform pulse ox analysis, but Apple hasn't exposed or utilized that functionality for reasons unknown. I haven't been able to find any discussion of it more recent than a few years ago; was curious if anyone has heard something more recent to suggest if this could finally show up at some point? I really don't want to have an additional device to wear, even if only when skiing, but it would be interesting data to have.

    Unknown Nike+ Sport Bands?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:40 PM PST

Anyone know the color name/background of these Nike+ sport bands? I can't seem to identify them based on internet searches.

    Could they be unreleased/prototype/elaborate fake?

They are all marked 44mm and have the appropriate markings. They also feel like they are made of the same material as the genuine Apple Nike+ sport bands.
