    AppleCare is a lifesaver!

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:09 PM PST

I spilled liquid on my MacBook and I went to Apple as it was presenting as "Sticky Keys". I left my MacBook with them after cleaning didn't help. The Genius said if signs of liquid are found, they will have to charge $399.

Today I got a call from Apple and they found signs of liquid. They have to replace my motherboard, my screen, and my keyboard. He said without Apple care it would be $1200. Neither is a really an affordable price due to financial issues in my family but it's cheaper.

I know some people don't like AppleCare, but if you have money to drop on it, I say purchase it, especially if you may be a clumsy person like me. I'd rather pay a fee upfront than to end up having to pay 1200 later. This is just an opinion, but I personally think it's worth it.

Are there issues with macbook air 2019 keyboard?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:45 PM PST

Thinking about purchasing one. Wondering if I should wait for 2020 model with scissor keybord. When will that be? I kinda need the laptop now but if it was problematic I'd rather not spend 1000$+ on it and then have the keyboard fail on me. Also, how about a refurbished one? Will it look and function like new? Do you advice against buying it refurbished?

Brand new MacBook Pro Shuts down

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:59 AM PST

    Hey

Got my MacBook Pro 2019 yesterday. Everything worked as supposed to up until battery level hit 87%. The laptop shut down and didn't wanna start. Plug in battery icon flashed so I plugged it in. It keeps on happening whenever I hit 87%.

The last time it happened battery lvl was at 1% when I started the laptop up, battery condition said "check battery". After I refreshed it said Normal again.

    I don't know what's wrong, battery defect?

Help would be nice, my first ever Macbook and its not of to a good start

Do you keep your MacBook on the charger?

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:08 PM PST

Hi everyone and happy new year!

I just got a MacBook Air from work recently and will also get the new MBP 13" in 2020 for private use. One question that I asked myself today when I redid my cable management was whether I shall keep it connected to my two monitors (that also work as chargers) when I do not use it or whether it is best to unplug it when it is not in use.

How do you guys handle that and what is said to be better for the battery?

    Dongle/USB-C Hub help! HDMI+3.5mm jack

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:06 PM PST

    Hello,

I recently purchased a usb c hub from amazon from a company called BQYPOWER. All seemed good as it has everything I need. The problem is, when connecting a monitor via its HDMI port, the 3.5mm jack doesn't work. Apparently, the Mac thinks the 3.5mm jack is a display and you cannot output via HDMI and 3.5mm at the same time. Since my monitor doesn't have speakers, the audio just comes out of the macbook's speakers.

Does anyone have a reliable hub/dongle for this situation? I know the Macbook has a built in 3.5mm jack but I wanted a single USB C cable to easily dock to power delivery/monitor/speakers/external drive/etc at the same time.

    Thanks!

Hey friends. Am I screwed? (Reformatting Macbook Air question)

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:48 AM PST

Hey all. So I sold my Macbook Air 2011 and was reformating it. So I restarted the computer, and held command+R. Once there, I went to disk utility and erased the harddrive.

I then restarted the computer. I held command+R again but instead it did not boot to the same screen, instead it went to a "Starting Internet Recovery" prompt to find a solution.

After 10 minutes or so, it took me to the similar screen as before when you booted holding command+R.

It gave me the option to install Lion, the old operating system (instead of high sierra, which was installed before I erased the disk).

Well, when I hit reinstall OS and clicked on Lion, it failed and said it couldn't download the components for Lion.

What do I do to just get a blank OS back on the Macbook again, frens?

    Thank you.

MacBook Won’t turn on after Catalina

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 12:03 PM PST

After updating my 2014 13" MacBook Pro to Catalina, it would no longer turn on. Turns out that the update causes the graphics card to die. Since I can't turn on my macbook, is removing the hard drive sufficient prior to selling or is this not enough to prevent security issues? Also, is there a hard drive adapter anyone can recommend? I pulled the hard drive out and it doesn't look like the normal 2.5" SATA hard drives I've seen before

    Macbook Air storage space HELP!!!

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:07 AM PST

Hello this is my first thread on Reddit and I thought maybe someone here could help me find the best solution!

So I have a Macbook Air 13" 2015 running on OSX El Capitan - Processor : 1,6 GHz Intel Core i5, Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 and 121 GB of flash storage (sorry if I don't use the right terms, my laptop's internal language is in French).

So my problem is that lately it's been telling me my storage disk is almost full. I went to see the details since I have almost nothing stored in my mac, most of my files are either on my drive (old photo albums, videos, documents, etc...) or on my iCloud. I also noticed my iPhotos was stocking some of my pictrues on the computer's internal storage, so I changed that option to optimize the space on the computer, but it still says I have like 12 GB of photos and 35 GB of videos, and even then it said my iPhoto library was taking about 7 GB before I disabled the storing on computer option.. Also, it says that i have almost 40 GB of "others" and I know some of that is cache from apps - which I don't really have a lot of either, beside chrome and a bunch of very low-running apps like Flashplayer and multimedia player. So I don't know how I can have 40 GB of that, and I haven't found the place where I can see in detail what it includes.

So I know there are a bunch of apps to help clean Macbooks and iMac computers - I have CCleaner free version - and I have been storing my biggest files on my drive and deleting them off my computer because until now it's not even letting me save a 2 page PDF file ANYWHERE because there is like zero space on my disk.

Does anyone know what's the best thing to do to get rid of the superfluous files on my computer without fucking it up? Is there an (ideally free or very cheap) app that can help me do that? Is it better to bring it to the Genius bar or Mac expert? Is there a "manual" way to see what is what and delete the big files?

    THANK YOU!

Advice needed, if you can please.

    Posted: 31 Dec 2019 01:03 AM PST

Hey, last month i had a motorcycle accident and my 2017 mbp was with me, since i had no apple care, no point on fixing it because it is way to expensive. So today, this deal came up, a 2015 (7,2) macbook air, i7, 8gb ram, 256ssd in mint condition with brand new battery swapped at apple. The owner wants to trade the air with my 2017 ipad pro 10.5 64gb. The use for this mac will be writing in python and other languages, no video editing, no sound editing, just coding and use it as a daily driver. Do you guys reckon it is a good deal? I do not use my ipad as much as i use a proper computer. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thank you.
