Knowtrail for WatchOS, a stand-alone Apple Watch app written in SwiftUI

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 09:54 AM PST

Hi, last month I updated my companion Apple Watch app to a stand-alone one, completely rewritten in SwiftUI.

What both iOS and WatchOS apps do is allow you to get information about your surroundings (via Wikipedia).

Both versions allow for 30 different languages and directions to points of interest.

The iOS app even sports a reading list and an offline mode so that you can use the app when abroad without paying roaming fees ;-)

For those of you who are developers I have written an article showcasing some interesting aspects of SwiftUI development:

    https://medium.com/@apostolisapo/building-an-apple-watch-app-in-swiftui-b58ebfcb7891

For the rest of you I welcome you to try Knowtrail both on iOS and WatchOS!

How is Series 5’s battery doing for you?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 09:25 PM PST

Hey guys, I've just acquired my very first Apple Watch (It's 4 days old now) and I'm pretty amazed by it. But one thing that is kinda bothering me is that the battery doesn't seem to be as good as people used to say about AW batteries.

Today I've worked out for about 50 minutes and the rest was normal usage with notifications checks. Aproximetly 13 hours of uptime later, it dropped 51% of the battery. Is this normal or am I seeing battery drain?

I know Apple sells the AW saying it has 18 hours of battery life, but people seem to say it's better than this

    Spark complication

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 11:20 PM PST

    Hello

I just got a new Apple Watch series 5.

Previously, on an old watch, the Spark email application complication worked perfectly.

With the new watch it t is not possible to add Spark as a complication. I've tried multiple watch faces with no luck.

Under the watch settings in complications the Spark app is listed as an available complication.

    Thoughts?

AW4 keeps showing water droplet icon

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 09:35 PM PST

Got my gf an Apple Watch Series 4 for Christmas. It keeps the droplet icon constantly and the battery drains faster than mine (both charged in the morning, mine at 85%, hers at 35%).

Does the water droplet come in automatically when a sensor is triggered?

    Vibration patterns?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:11 AM PST

Can you change the vibration patterns for certain things? I like the way it feels when using gps and I have a turn coming up, but can't stand the short, quick vibration when I get a text. When I'm at work running around I hardly feel it. Is there a way to change that? Very new to the Apple Watch and all its functions so I apologize if this is a super easy thing to change.

Can you do something else with your Apple Watch on your Mac than just unlock it?

I know I can also open the lock in System Preferences but I think that's it.

Does anyone have experience buying a sport loop band in Canada?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:45 PM PST

I really like the look of the sport loop band and I was wondering if anyone has experience buying one in Canada? I would rather go with something third party to try before I go with the official one. Has anyone bought the sport loop band from eBay.ca or amazon.ca or even aliexpress in Canada?

    Thanks for the help!

Are Shortcuts restricted on the Series 1?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:53 AM PST

I set up a shortcut to automatically activate the Lights Off setting for AutoSleep, but when I try to use it through my S1, I get the message, "Sorry, Shortcuts do not work on the Apple Watch Series 1 42mm."

I did a search for that message, but I can't find anything online that references shortcuts being excluded from the S1. I did find a generic mesage that was similar, but apparently that was fixed in the latest watchOS update.

Any other S1 users can confirm that shortcuts don't work? It's not too big a deal to me. I'd just like to know it's not a bug or something.

Abnormally High Sleeping Heart Rates Found

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:31 AM PST

I was looking through my Health app and noticed that I had really odd nocturnal heart rates on 6/2/19 and 6/3/19(max of 140 BPM), 8/2/19 and 8/3/19 (max of 180 BPM). There were no major fluctuations with the heart rate as well, increasing and decreasing at time to possibly give me any indication of sleep apnea. Outside of these 4 dates, my nocturnal heart rate is consistently between 40-60 BPM. I sleep well and I don't usually wake up groggy or tired at all. Is this cause for concern or was this just a glitch?

Milanese loop you match S4 aluminum gold?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 08:13 PM PST

I know the one that Apple manufactures matches better with the stainless steel gold, but I'm looking for a Milanese loop that matched perfectly or almost perfectly to the aluminum gold on the S4. Anyone knows of anything?

Any mechanics here that use a Apple Watch every day?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:57 AM PST

I work on cars every day and I do a lot of welding and grinding. I'm getting a series 5. How well does it hold up? Do I need a screen protector or a case that has one with it? I do a lot of metal work and I'm not sure if I'll get a bunch of metal shavings all over the watch. So what cases do y'all use? I know I can't be the only mechanic and fabricator that has a Apple Watch

I've invited my mate to the sharing feature on activity app. He's accepted. But it isn't showing on either of our apps.

Any ideas on what might be going on?

Apple Watch fitness and beta blockers question

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:47 AM PST

I'm looking to buy an Apple Watch for the fitness / tracking aspect and I'm curious if anybody has experience about interaction between beta blockers and tracking.

Since I'm on beta blockers this keeps my heart rate from getting high even during a gym workout and I'm curious how this will effect tracking or if it will just not register.

Anybody have experience with this? I've tried to google but the Apple support "calibration page" seems to be the only thing I can find posted anywhere and I'm not sure If that was helpful. Thank you!
