An option to match frame rate within video settings caused my Netflix slowdown issues

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 10:35 PM PST

I've been searching for a Netflix fix on my Apple TV 4k. App would slow down to a cowl within a few minutes of scrolling through the Netflix choices, often requiring a complete restart (of Apple TV) to get things back to normal for another few minutes.

Long story short, my issues with Netflix completely dissipated when I turned off an option to match frame rate (aka FPS), located in Settings > Video and Audio > Match Content .

Hope this workaround helps others as well.

What the hell happened to the Weather Channel app?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 10:43 AM PST

It was recently updated to v4.0, and they seem to have removed one feature -- telling you the fucking weather!

It's nothing but links to videos to their news stories now, and runs like a Java app on Netscape Navigator on a Dell from the nineties. Anyone else seeing this?

    AppleTV 4K

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 01:44 PM PST

Just a question about the AppleTV & streaming 4K content in Europe. I'm active duty & recently moved to Italy & have amassed quite the collection of 4K movies on my iTunes account. I can't link a Vudu account to it and watch anything via vudu outside the US, which is no biggy, I don't use vudu at all anyways, but my question is, with the AppleTV am I going to run into any problems like that? I have linked my accounts to my google account and have the content available to watch through the YouTube app, but the first time I watched one of my movies, half way through I got hit with the region error, which is weird because I got to the halfway point no problem. I haven't tried again since then but all of my content is from the US & my plan was to use the Apple TV to stream my movies onto my 4K tv but would rather not spend the money on it if I'm going to run into problems like this. Any help is appreciated, thanks y'all.

    Airplay 60fps? (Apple Tv 4k)

    Posted: 26 Dec 2019 12:01 AM PST

I've read even Airplay 2 only supports 1080p (true?)

What about 60fps? Will mi iPhone X's 1080p at 60fps videos airplay to my Apple TV 4k at full 1080p60fps quality?

How to know? Can't find official statements.

Does your Apple TV turn off connected devices when it goes to sleep due to inactivity?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 04:31 PM PST

I noticed yesterday that the Apple TV turns off my receiver and TV successfully when I manually make it sleep, but say I have it auto sleeping after 15 mins, it doesn't turn them off when sleeping. Really weird.

Do your Apple TV's display this behavior as well, or is it something on just my end?

    Frame rate and content matching...

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 12:05 PM PST

So, for Xmas I got a new Samsung Q70R 4K TV and upgraded my Apple TV to the 4K (5th Gen) version. I've noticed some quirks...

In settings / video and audio I've got the format set to 4K HDR and 4:2:2 Chroma

I've also turned ON range and frame rate matching; I do NOT want 24fps SDR content to be converted to 60fps HDR content

But it seems with the HBO GO app, that's what it's doing anyway

I was watching a movie called "The Recruit" and it played back at 60fps and you could tell it was over saturating the brightness and converting it to HDR, and it looked very tacky and fake IMHO, like a soap opera that was shot under insanely bright lights 😂

So...what am I doing wrong here?

Why aren't the "match content" settings actually working?

How do I get SDR 24fps content to play back at its native frame rate and range?

    Use 2 Horipad Ultimates

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 06:21 PM PST

I just got two horipad ultimates, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make them connect as player one and player two. They both just connect with the first red square lit up. I also googled and couldn't find anything on it. Any help would be super appreciated.

    Recommendations for Wireless (Surround) Headphones?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 12:42 PM PST

I own a pair of last gen model Airpods that I use for my iPhone and Apple TV. I was thinking of getting the Airpod Pro as a second pair to use exclusively with the Apple TV, since I've read that it has improved sound.

But I wanted to get some opinions first on whether there were headphones/earbuds that produced better sound quality at around the same price or less. Since they're exclusively for movie watching, I want whatever delivers nice, booming sound. This includes virtual surround sound if it's an option.
If the Airpods Pro suffice for the price point, then I'll still lean towards those. Not looking to spend $500 or anything crazy.

    Connectivity issues

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 12:36 PM PST

My Apple TV is saying it can't connect to the internet when I click on Netflix or Prime video, but I've checked the network settings and it is definitely connected to the internet. Can watch YouTube or Apple+ just fine. I've tried all the normal stuff: Deleting and redownloading Netflix Checking software updates Unplugged waited, then plug back in.

    Any other suggestions?

I posted this before but when I click on the subreddit I don't see my post so I guess this is a repost.

My brother gave me his old Apple TV 3rd gen and I can't get past this screen after signing into Netflix. I can mirror Disney +. Watch YouTube, but I can get Netflix to work and the internet searches show nothing. Any ideas? Yes I've reset and restarted. here

So we got the apple tv box set up via phone and all good to go. However when trying to get the hulu app, it asks for the password. No big deal. Says verification failed, but the password is correct. What is going on?

Apple TV vs Samsung QLED App

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 09:45 AM PST

    Hi,

I have ordered a Samsung Q85 QLED TV and have heard that it has an Apple TV app + Airplay which is making me wonder if having a separate Apple 4K TV box is worth having.

I currently use my box simply to watch streaming services and to Airplay sports streams.

Is it worth me keeping the box and, if so, why?

    Thanks in advance

Any way to hide paid (non subscription) content - eg movie purchases/rentals?

    Posted: 25 Dec 2019 06:23 AM PST

    Hi all,

I bought an Apple TV for a family friend that has an iPad and iPhone but who struggles with their Smart TV. I thought it would be easier for them to just keep everything within the Apple ecosystem.

I've set it all up for them, added Netflix and their other subscription services but the homescreen is still recommending purchases/rentals which they have no interest in at all.

That's not a very Apple thing to do. It's like the Windows 10 Start Menu in there - just ads pushing more services! They won't want to buy or rent things from iTunes, they have all the streaming music/film services they already want.

I'm worried that I've bought a junk Christmas present and that this product really isn't up to Apple's standards.

What the fuck is wrong with the volume on AppleTV apps? It’s quiet then loud in the middle of a movie.
