Find my iPhone with CLOSED airpods case Posted: 31 Dec 2019 07:20 AM PST I'm wondering if there's a way to use find my iPhone with AirPods WITHOUT them being open? If I try locate my airpods, it finds the location where I last opened them. But if they're closed and in my house, I want to be able to "detect" that they're in my house. I know they don't have a GPS chip, so this would only be if I was in my house, with my phone, with Bluetooth on. But from what I can tell, the airpods case needs to be OPEN for me to detect it. I never lose my airpods when they're open. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? Let me know if you have any solutions. If not, let me know how not to misplace these tiny things haha. [link] [comments] |
16 inch macbook pro having KEYBOARD problems Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:08 PM PST I just bought a macbook pro. Spec'd it out too. I've noticed that the caps key sometimes isn't responsive. The light and actual button doesn't work and I will have to press it two or three times for the light to finally come on and actually work. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm still in the 15 day return window but I dont want to have to deal with the returning and waiting for a new machine. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
I’ve tried everything I could find online but apps keep crashing within seconds on iPhone 7 Posted: 31 Dec 2019 09:56 PM PST iPhone 7 updated to iOS 13.3. Apps like Pokémon Go and Animal Crossing Pocket Camp will crash within seconds of start up. I've tried rebooting the device, deleting the apps, factory resetting the device, and clearing out memory on the device all to no success in fixing the issue. Is there some other way to address this? Dual booting OS X and Windows 10 from an external drive. Posted: 31 Dec 2019 08:41 PM PST I've been following This tutorial I managed to get Windows installed on my external hard drive under virtual box with the bootcamp support software on the desktop. I am on the step: Restart Your Mac With the External Windows Drive When I restart my holding the option button, it does NOT give me the option to boot from my external hard drive. It only lists main hard drive. I'm not sure what else to try. edit: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 [link] [comments] |

Is there a way that I can change my subscription duration? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:38 PM PST I have accidentally subscribed to a one year plan when starting a trial and did not really pay attention that it is going to subscribe me for one year after the trial ends. I would ideally like to change it to a one month subscription. If not, at least change it to 3 or 6 month subscription. Is it possible to do so? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:20 AM PST The full message is: "Trust this computer? Your settings and data will be accessible from the computer when connected wirelessly or using a cable." with two buttons: "Trust" and "Don't Trust." If I press "Trust," I am prompted for my passcode, which I enter and the dialog disappears. If I press 'Don't Trust," the dialog disappears. In either case, the dialog returns as soon as the device is unplugged and re-plugged in, which of course, is several times a day, as I take pictures as part of my work and use my Mac to both process pictures and charge my phone. I have Googled this every way I know how, including results only from reddit (and only from this sub) that have the exact phrase "Don't Trust," and "iPhone" and I come up absolutely empty every time. It appears as if I am the only one having this problem. I have been having this problem for about six months now, with my old SE on my MacBook Air, and now on my newer 8 on my newer Macbook Pro. It's driving me crazy. Edit: I have tried everything in the "Get Help" portion of this article. Nothing works. I am now going to make an appointment with the Apple Store to see if they can figure it out and since I'm sure other people on the Internet are experiencing this, if I find out what it is, I will update this thread. Edit: will be calling in first before the Apple store, but since it's New Years, might take a few days. Will update this thread when I know something. [link] [comments] |
Is iCloud email good to use as primary Email? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:47 AM PST I am thinking of moving completely away from all Google services & devices, and hence I am purchasing iCloud storage. Thinking of moving my emails as well from Gmail to iCloud Email. Does anyone here use iCloud email for their primary purposes. Any reviews? Also, any other good privacy centric alternatives? Best way to maximize lifespan of iPhone 11 battery? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:34 PM PST I was doing a bit of research on this earlier but I was finding a lot of contradictory information, so I would love to have some modern opinions. I have a habit of plugging my phone is every single night, no matter if it's at 20% or at 90%. I have heard from some people that fully discharging and recharging is bad for the battery, and from some others that it is not a problem at all. Likewise, I have also heard that leaving your phone charged in overnight shortens the lifespan of the battery, and I have heard claims from the other side as well. Which one of these claims is true? How should I change up my charging habits to ensure that my battery won't be completely drained by the middle of the day next year? [link] [comments] |
So many issues with 2018 MacBook Pro I9 Posted: 31 Dec 2019 06:33 PM PST So far in the last 6 months I have encountered 3 issues that have required me to factory reset my computer. The first one was iCloud would reject to sync with desktop and documents I had an open case with Apple support for almost 3 months. The second one was I was unable to zip files anymore even with a third party tool which I again had to factory reset my computer. And then the next issue I was having was I could not save any files to my Drive I tried even making a file in vim with no success to save it. Has anyone else had this many issues that required a factory reset in such a short period of time. [link] [comments] |

Microphone permission settings locked and won’t let me change them Posted: 31 Dec 2019 11:51 AM PST Microphone permissions locked Hi Id like to thank you in advance for anyone who tries to help. I recently installed an app that needs camera and microphone permissions to work properly. Upon installing the app, it requested my camera permissions but not my microphone. I decided to look through my microphone settings and found that my microphone permissions are locked and cannot be changed. My camera permissions are unlocked and can be changed. More important than the app not working, why are my microphone permission settings locked and unable to be adjusted? Did I somehow lock them in a setting? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is there a way to restore permanently deleted photos? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 05:05 PM PST So yesterday I bought a new iPad and as I set it up I noticed that all my photos from my phone were transferred to it, and not wanting to use up storage on my iPad I deleted them all (also deleted from recently deleted) I was making sure it didn't affect my phone's library, but today I woke up and everything was gone. I was distraught. I tried factory resetting my phone and backing it up to an earlier date, but none of my photos were restored. (At least not yet, it's been about an hour and a half) is there any way I can recover them??? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:56 AM PST Hello everyone. I have tried to re-install Mac OS X Lion on to my MacBook Air (2014 I think) and I keep getting this upper mid bubble stating "Can't download the additional components need to install Mac OS X". I have already erased the hd drive and made sure it was formatted correctly. Does anyone have suggestions towards fixing this issue. Do I need to use an external drive with an OS software in it? Note: this all began after I wiped the computer clean of all data. I also went to the apple store and they told me the hard drive was "obsolete" which is total bs cause now that I went home and tried fixing the issue myself I was able to identify the drive. They said it was obsolete since it didn't read at the apple store. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Questions about wireless chargers Posted: 31 Dec 2019 04:30 PM PST Hi everyone, just got an iPhone 11 and was thinking about getting a wireless charger, but I have some questions : • will any wireless charger do the work like the Chinese one they sell on ebay ? • will these Chinese ebay chargers harm my battery? • will a 10w wireless charger charge my phone at the same speed as the 5w wall charger that comes with the phone or faster ? Thanks everyone and happy new year [link] [comments] |

Qi Wireless Charging Standards and the Wireless Charging Profiles Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:33 PM PST Hello r/applehelp, I currently own an iPhone 11 (Product Red, 128 GB, IOS 13.3). I currently own a Qi wireless charger and want to buy a second one for my brother. The first one I bought a while ago without much thought and now that I'm shopping again for a second one, I decided to do more research and then got sucked into finding the right one that meets the Qi wireless standards. Starting with my search, I looked at my old wireless charger online. It is the TOZO W1 Wireless Charger Ultra Thin Fast Charging Pad (Black). According to their product page, they charge at 5w with Qi products, 7.5w with the iPhone 8 and newer, and 10w with select Android phones such as the Galaxy Line. That's great, especially since I have it paired with a QC 3.0 charger which is able to supply enough power for even the 10w power. That's all great, but then I decided to dig into the Qi standard protocols. When looking it up on the wireless power consortium website, I noticed that it only used the Basic Power Profile of the Qi wireless standard. For those that aren't aware, this means that according to the Qi wireless specifications means that the charging pad should only be able to charge at a MAXIMUM of 5w. Doesn't this mean that the wireless charger is breaking the Qi specification if it is charging at a higher wattage? or is it advertised as being able to supply 7.5w and 10w but only delivers 5w (i.e. false advertising)? Also I am aware of the Extended Power Profile, but according to the TOZO wireless power consortium product page shows that is doesn't use the Extended Power Profile, which is needed to go over the 5w maximum. How to delete all photos off of iPhone (iOS 13) Posted: 31 Dec 2019 03:06 PM PST Hey, so I have 2700+ photos on my iPhone XS and have backed them up to my Mac by importing them via the Photos app on Mac. Now i want to free up some space on my phone by deleting all these photos I've come across other reddit threads asking this question but all the solutions refer to older iOS/MacOS versions where the delete features are not available anymore. Things like:
Hoping someone has an up-to-date solution for this. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Problem transferring photos from old iTouch to windows computer Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:52 PM PST Hi everyone, I have an old iTouch (gen 2 or 3) that has a massive amount of old photos on it. I'm trying to transfer them to my current computer (dell running Windows 10) using a USB cable, but all the photos, except for one, aren't visible when conducting an import. These photos were initially synced to my iTouch from a super old laptop (acer running Windows 7) I had several years ago. The photos are spread across a few different albums in the photos app on my iTouch. These albums were the folders of photos on my old laptop that synced to my iTouch years ago. In fact, the only photo that appears on my computer when I try to import also happens the be the only photo in the "Saved Photos" album on my iTouch. I've already done a bit of troubleshooting. My computer's OS, iTunes and iTouch's software are all up to date. The USB cable is in great shape, and when I connect my iTouch to my computer, all signs point to a solid connection between the two. These photos aren't stored on iCloud, so I know that's not the culprit. I also tried downloading a photo transfer app (iMyFone's TunesMate) to carry out the transfer, but the photos still don't appear as on my iTouch. Can anyone shed some light on this matter? Is there an app I can download to get this import done right, or am I going about this the wrong way? I really think the fact that these photos were synced to my iTouch from a different laptop years ago has something to do with my issue. Could be wrong about that, and even if I'm not, I still don't know how to get around it. [link] [comments] |
How do you make a video player of your choice the default in MacOS? Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:48 AM PST I'm sure this question has been asked before but I wanted to ask here. macOS gives you the ability to select what default app you'd like to use to, in this case, open up a video file. I select the app I want to use but every time I open up a video of the same file type it keeps defaulting to using QuickTime which I don't want to use. How do you force macOS to adhere to the video player of your choosing without defaulting back to QuickTime? Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Setbeat not migrating playlists from Spotify Posted: 31 Dec 2019 02:22 PM PST Anyone else having trouble with this? I select the playlists I want to transfer but it does nothing but show a loading icon. I kept the app open with the screen timeout off for hours and 0 songs transfer over. I really like Setbeat because it has most of the songs I want and I can download it for free but this migration thing sucks. It be nice if we could migrate in the background. What can I do? Thx and happy new year. Note: on iOS 12. [link] [comments] |
Nuking my family and home setup. Need some tips. Posted: 31 Dec 2019 10:23 AM PST I'm far from an Apple noob...and this has created a couple of issues. Our family has been using/adding/subtracting Apple devices from our household for a while so our current setup is a virtual rat's nest of connections. Before Family Sharing was a thing, we set up a dedicated household Apple ID for all purchases (apps, music, movies, books, etc). Each family member had their own Apple ID for their devices. We would log into our devices with our Apple IDs and then log into the iTunes store with the household Apple ID so we could make purchases from one account. We got an AppleTV HD a while ago (4th Gen - 2015) and set it up using only the household Apple ID since that's where our media purchases are stored. We started using Homekit a couple of years ago. To keep Homekit "owned" by the house, we pulled out an older iPad (4th Gen - late 2012), hung it on the kitchen wall, and also set it up using the household Apple ID. We invited the members of the family to be users of the home. We have to set automations using the 4th Gen iPad, but that's the only real downside. The iPad has been serving as the hub. After realizing that we should probably just give in to Family Sharing, we decided to treat the household Apple ID as the "parent" and added everybody as family members. So far, this is working well. But now here's the problem: We picked up a Homepod for Christmas. Since it's going to be a "family" device like the AppleTV and kitchen iPad, I grabbed the iPad to set it up. Unfortunately, the kitchen iPad is old enough where it won't run iOS11. It maxes out at 10.3.3. So I can't use it to set up the Homepod. If I set up the Homepod using my own iPhone, would the Homepod be my device instead of a family device? And what if I just reset the AppleTV with my Apple ID instead of the family Apple ID? Would it be "my" AppleTV? Would Family Sharing still allow everybody to access media purchases? And last (and probably most importantly) would anybody in the family be able to access my texts and make phone calls using my Apple ID through the Homepod? Thank you in advance for any help!
