Suggestion: Put Apple Originals subreddits in the sidebar so people find them easier

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 03:48 PM PST

Since this is the biggest subreddit, it would be nice if we could point people to the shows' specific subreddits. At least for now while their number is still low.

    /r/SeeTV

    /r/TheMorningShow

These are the ones I know, but there's probably others.

How is there no simple way to see how much free space you have on your Apple TV?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:00 AM PST

It's actually a little surprising that there is nowhere you can see 'Total Used Space' and 'Total Available Space' on tvOS, the best they seem to offer is Manage Storage which requires you to add each app's storage up individually and doesn't even show the whole deal because there is no 'System' or 'Other' storage use like on the other OS' meaning it only gives a vague picture as to your total storage use.

For one it makes it hard to know if I've got enough room left for more Apple Arcade games - I'm just downloading until I get an error message.

Out of interest, other than apps what else is storage used for? Are my iTunes purchases stored or streamed for instance?

    APPLE TV+ new episode schedules?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 09:57 PM PST

So I got the free year, watched the 3 available episodes of "For All Mankind" over the weekend. I just realized I have no clue when the next episode will be available, is there some schedule all new episodes come out the same day? Is it different for each show? I can find no info on this anywhere. Thanks

When asking for my refund, AT&T required my SSN to look up my order, to “create a full account”

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 11:57 PM PST

I said "no, I didn't have to create a full account to order it. I didn't have to provide my SSN."

"Well sir, to look up the order I need that"

Me: "No, no you don't. You have the order number. You can just look it up"

"Sir I cant look up the order without a full account"

Me: "Yes you can. It wasn't required to order it."

...this shit is ridiculous. This company thinks they can essentially run the world.

AT&T cancelled my Apple TV order

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:47 AM PST

I placed the order on Friday at 8:00 EST (the post on blogs was about 11:00, for reference) and just received with the cancellation info. Funny thing is that the reason is blank, so cancelled without a reason.

    Keep watching your orders!

Apple TV+ app for consoles ?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 12:18 PM PST

I watch all my streaming services on my ps4 and was wondering if there are any plans to release an official app. I would assume they have to if they really want to compete against Netflix and Hulu which all have there apps widely available on different sources.

    AT+ on AT2

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 02:56 AM PST

Is the Apple TV app available on Apple TV Gen. 2? I know it's available on Gen 3s and they technically don't run tvOS either so I didn't know if it was hidden on mine or just not available.

    tvOS Apps Crashing Immediately

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 10:54 AM PST

I have been having reoccurring crashing and instability issues with my Apple TV 4K since the tvOS 13 update. Apps will crash immediately after opening. I have had this issue with Hulu, Netflix, Music and Amazon. Also, when entering the TV app, most TV/Movie thumbnails will not load, leaving a bunch of grey boxes.

A restart will fix it, but the issue will come back within a few hours. I have a fast and stable internet connection.

Has anyone had this issue or knows of a fix? Thanks!

Very choppy playback when using Macbook Airplay

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 07:36 PM PST

I'm trying to stream video from my 2017 Macbook to my Apple TV but the playback is always very choppy and videos just don't play smoothly. I'm running the latest software on both devices. This doesn't happen when I use Airplay on my iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Can’t access iTunes library on Apple TV

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:21 PM PST

    Hello all!

For the past week I've been having difficulty accessing my purchases on my Apple TV device. It's a couple years old (got it Christmas 2017) if that matters at all.

When I go to watch something I'm stuck in a loading screen. Every other app (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video etc.) works and loads instantly. Any suggestion about what to do?

EDIT: Problem solved. Just told it to reset and that did the trick.

Shared family library on Apple TV app

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 11:27 AM PST

I redeemed the free year of Apple TV + and the members of my family are able to share it just fine. I noticed my movie library does not seem to be accessible by my family members in the Apple TV app. This has never been a problem in iTunes as they can see my library. I can see my own library but my family members cannot. I must be missing something. Can someone point me in the right direction here? My family members' movie library is just blank.

Dolby Vision and eARC blackout problem and fix

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 07:04 AM PST

Preamble: I couldn't find my specific problem anywhere on the internet but found one that was close enough on this subreddit that helped me figure out the issue. Putting my exact issue up here for those in need.

Set up: LG OLED C9, Song STRDN 1080 receiver, Apple 4K, all brand new equipment

So on my setup of my beautiful, wonderful new home theatre (stepping up from a 10-year old 1080p plasma setup) everything initially appeared peachy. AppleTV to receiver to TV plugged in to a non-eARC port in the TV. Dolby Vision worked, everything seemed fine.

As I fiddled, I decided to try out eARC - my new receiver doesn't have an HDMI port on the front so I needed a solution for the rare auxiliary input I may need from time to time. On shifting the receiver to the eARC port, all of a sudden Dolby Vision was failing. Most commonly it just wouldn't work, and on the rare case that it did, it would flash black every few seconds and would eventually just fail.

In between triage sessions I moved the receiver back to non-eARC but every once and a while I'd start to experience the black flashes on that port as well while browsing the AppleTV home screen and Netflix.

Diagnosis: Best Buy's shitty insignia brand HDMIs

I know, I know - why buy a premium TV and a mid-high range receiver and then buy Insignia brand HDMIs? I dunno. I kind of though the era of overpriced overhyped HDMIs were done and they could all pull off the same thing if they were 4K and HDR capable.

Anyway - I picked up the Belkin 8k ready HDMIs that were $12 cheaper (CAD) on Amazon than the Best Bug cables were, and now everything works like a charm. eARC plus Dolby Vision, no issues.

Hope this post finds someone in need!

Apple TV box + Samsung TV set = worst combo?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 12:52 PM PST

Apple TV doesn't support HDR10+ Samsung does.

Samsung doesn't support DolbyVision Apple TV does.

So, having bought that combo I'm whining.

But I do have a question: Does anyone know what the Apple TV actually does when receiving a title listed as HDR DolbyVision while connected to a Samsung?

It appears to accept the stream and then it seems that it either passes it to the Samsung unchanged and the Samsung "copes" with it or the ATV reformats it to some format which it feels is acceptable to the Samsung.

What it doesn't seem to do is reject the DolbyVision stream and request an HDR10 (not plus) stream instead. If there is such a thing. Which is perhaps what the Samsung apps do.

I connected a 12 year old monitor to the Apple TV and the Apple TV reported "HD DolbyVision" and the picture was not good. So it seemed to be passing on the DV stream. When I switched the box to SDR the picture was very good.

My main reason for asking is that the picture on my Samsung seems reasonably good when watching DolbyVision titles on my Samsung TV's built in smart apps but worse when I watch the same title via the Apple TV's apps. I was expecting it to be better

The idea of asking Apple is not appealing. So, any ideas?

HBO Now on Apple TV App

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 05:54 AM PST

When I try to watch HBO through the Apple TV app, it rarely works correctly. Last night the show was muted. It still asks me to sign-up for a free trial, but the HBO App works fine on Apple TV. I was just trying to get it to work via the Apple TV app.

    Thanks

Device with 1y free aptv+ has different Appstore country than Aptv4k, no family sharing is possible, Airplay will be the only option.

How do I upgrade my digital HD titles to 4K?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 10:36 AM PST

Hi everyone. I'm a new owner of a Apple TV 4K and I was told that your he digital titles get upgraded to 4K when you buy one if there's a 4K copy available on iTunes. How do I go about this process? Any constructive feedback is appreciated. Thank you.
