USB hub causing rhythmic lag in mouse cursor

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 10:57 PM PDT

    Hi,

I am a new mac user. Just purchased a USB C hub. (https://www.amazon.com/Baseus-Portable-Charging-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B07N6Q343Q)

I realised that once it's plugged in, moving the mouse cursor will lag for 0.5 seconds for every 5 seconds. I managed to temporarily fix it by removing and replugging it until the problem goes away.

Does anyone has similar experience? And what should I do?

(If I'm on a window device, I would have update/roll back the usb hub driver.)

    Thanks.

Question: Password is Required to Enable TouchID

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 07:56 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I just got back to my dorm and opened my Macbook. In the login screen, it said "Password is required to enable TouchID." Now I know that message pops up after failed TouchID attempts. But I haven't done that. What I want to know is, are there any other reasons that could have caused this message, or should I now be worrying about somebody having entered my room? Thanks.

Switching between multiple instance of the same app on different desktops.

    Posted: 01 Oct 2019 01:27 AM PDT

    Hi,

I use Chrome's People option to keep my work window seperate from my personal one. I have my work browser window open in desktop 1 and personal in desktop 2. Now when I hit Command+Tab there is only one Chrome icon to choose and it always takes me to either one of them (I feel it is random) no matter how many times i try to control tab on chrome it always takes me only to say desktop 2's window and never goes to desktop 1's window. I feel this is quite irritating as I was a windows user earlier and Alt+Tab seemed to work fine even if there is multiple instance of the same app.

I tried Command + ` but it only works if both windows are in the same desktop (Which I don't keep).

Do you guys have any solution to this problem. I appreciate any feedback.

I am using macOS Mojave 10.14.6 on my 13" MacBook Pro 2017 edition.

Found someone else's computer connected to mine in Finder? Is this bad

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:48 PM PDT

Today I looked at the 'Remote Disc' tab in Finder, and someone else's computer popped up. This is a brand new computer that, to my knowledge, has only been touched by me. I don't know anything about Mac OS or what this means, so just any possible explanation would be appreciated.

I'm on a college network and if I go to the network tab I can see about 30 other people's MacBooks and the name of the guy whose MacBook showed up in my remote disc. I ejected the disc, but does this mean he had some sort of remote access to my computer? Did someone set this up on my computer without my knowledge or could I have done this accidentally? Thank you

My MacBook Pro randomly hitches any suggestions why and how to fix this?

My webcam keeps turning on and off during a FaceTime video call. Help please?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:29 PM PDT

Usually when I am on a video call on FaceTime, my webcam will work and then cut out (green light will turn off and the video of me on my screen disappears). Like 3 seconds later, it comes back, but it's quite annoying. Does this happen to anyone else? Any way to fix this?

Using 2019 MBP with TouchBar (and latest version of Mojave).

    Thanks!

I need a macbook which will run the latest xcode

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 05:25 AM PDT

So I'm gonna be real with you guys. I have always been a windows kinda guy, however for one of my modules on my course we will be needing xcode. I don't have a lot of money so I am looking to buy a used mac from ebay. I don't need anything powerful so I'm thinking of getting an air. However I have two newbie questions. Is there a particular model I should avoid. And lastly I want to get a mac which will run the latest OS as I believe that will be necessary for xcode. I see that 2011 models are super cheap but I just don't know what to get, thank you.

How do I backup MAC apps?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:02 AM PDT

I have heard that with the next Mac OS update some apps will stop working and may be removed from the mac app store even if you purchased them.

I have downloaded some of the apps I would like to keep (just clicked the download cloud on the mac app store).

How do I backup these apps to my external 2TB drive so I can install them later if they are removed from the app store or my mac dies?

Basically - how do I backup mac apps?

Strange and peculiar random macOS Mojave freeze & lag after the login screen?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 03:57 AM PDT

So, I have this problem with my MacBook Pro (Late 2018, i7 2.6GHz, 32 GB RAM ), that sometimes, completely randomly, after I login, the system lags heavily in a very specific manner. It seems as if the lag/freeze is triggered by launching any application (literally anything), and from that moment on, the whole system freezes for a few seconds, then seemingly returns to normal, but whatever was launched still is kind of frozen; it seems as if it actually loads up, but nothing happens, and after a moment, the system freezes again. What's interesting is that the mouse cursor moves normally, though if I hover over the dock, it's frozen, same with anything else.

I've noticed that it's somehow connected to the internet connection; I can be sure that the lag will happen if I try to launch the browser (or anything that requires internet connnection) and despite having a strong WiFi connection, the aforementioned application shows that there's no connection whatsoever. So, if I start the browser, it shows me that the page cannot load as there's no connection, and a second later, everything freezes. This kind of a freeze/lag also affects the system reboot/shutdown as well. Since the lag happens in an on-for-a-moment and then gone-for-a-moment manner, if I try to restart the MacBook and it happens that the lag returns, the whole restart freezes as well and for a moment, nothing happens. Once the lag-is-gone phase happens, the system actually shuts down.

This usually fixes itself after a few restarts, I've tried turning WiFi/Bluetooth of an on between the restarts, but to no avail. It seems that it simply goes away after a few restarts and is gone for a couple of days/weeks and then returns.

EDIT: I've also examined CPU/Memory/SDD usage during the lag and there's literally nothing that could be the cause of the problem. CPU is actually 98% unused, SDD and Memory are also normal.

    Has anyone encountered anything similar?
