Is 8GB RAM enough for the next few years? Posted: 30 Sep 2019 09:34 PM PDT Hi there r/Macbook , i'm planning on getting a new Macbook Pro for university and am torn between 8GB or 16GB of ram. I'm mainly using my laptop for general productivity (ie. word processing, powerpoints, excel, google docs) and nothing intensive such as photoshop/video editing. This is a sizeable purchase for me and i plan on keeping it for the next 4/5 years. It's my first Macbook Pro. Thanks! /r/Macbook [link] [comments]
Split water on Macbook Pro 15" 2017 - Everything seems fine? Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:56 PM PDT I managed to tip over my water bottle on to my MacBook, instantly tipped it upside down (open), wiped off the water & put it outside in direct sunlight. I left it for about an hour and a half. It turned on and everything seems to be working perfectly, no damage to be seen at all - is this too good to be true ? is there something I should do to check everything is ok ? I would of usually left it for longer to dry but I'm at work experience and can't just sit around all day [link] [comments]
MacBook Pro (2015) WiFi issue stating no hardware installed Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:19 PM PDT Just been hit with this message and seen numerous things on the internet of solutions. I've rebooted in safe mode and ran diagnostics and all that. I just want to know if anyone else has been hit with it? And how much it costs to get sorted. Malfunctions always happen at the most inconvenient times, ey? [link] [comments]
Dots appearing on bottom of MacBook screen Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:15 PM PDT Hey everyone, I have the 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar and I just noticed that I have dark dots at the bottom of my screen. https://i.imgur.com/1YPJUcb.jpg I got my laptop a few years ago and don't have AppleCare+, so warranty wise I believe I'm out of luck. Has anyone else had this problem or know what the fix may be? Also, I love this laptop and it works great, but I have already had to get it fixed a few times for the keyboard and another issue. I'm generally an Apple fan(see my name), but does it seem like the their laptops are getting worse in terms of durability and hardware quality? Thanks [link] [comments]

Why Macbook (air) is a great laptop Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:37 PM PDT I hope this doesn't get removed as it isn't exactly a "what should I buy" thread. I just want to know from those who own or want to get a macbook air why they think having a macbook air (and maybe even an Iphone) is great. I can't wait to read your motivations :) EDIT:Misspelled words [link] [comments]
Macbook Air 2013 (11 inch) cannot install Mojave even after putting in new SSD Posted: 30 Sep 2019 07:25 PM PDT Hello there! I have a 2013 (11 inch) Macbook Air and suddenly it showed the Folder with the Question Mark on it. So I figured might as well replace the SSD on it. I bought a Lexar NM500 SSD and used an adaptor to insert it into the macbook Air. However, when I try to install Mojave or High Sierra on it using a USB installer, it just restarts on the 2 minute mark and would go into the Disk Utility screen again. I tried formatting the SSD into both Mac OS Journaled and APFS. For the APFS, it says that I should reformat the SSD to Mac OS Journaled. But for Mac OS Journaled, it just restarts on the 2 minute mark of installing. Here is the video of what happens. https://youtu.be/sQO4vSbEc7Q Internet Recovery which installs Mac OS Mavericks won't even recognize the SSD so that's not possible. Please help. I don't know what to do anymore. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Sep 2019 02:41 PM PDT Ok so I'm going from a mid 2012 MacBook Pro to the new 15 inch MacBook Pro (cheaper 15in). I do video and photo editing final cut/photoshop/Lightroom which is barley getting by on this dinosaur I have, especially final cut I can't really do much on it. I will be doing more editing once I start college next year especially using more adobe apps. The layout I'm looking at is the better processor I9 and better graphics Radeon 560, storage doesn't matter to me since I have a 5 tb external. The main question is should I do 16gb or 32gb of RAM and is the $360 difference worth it? [link] [comments]

[Rant] [Apple Support] I want to get rid of my MacBook Air (2018) Posted: 30 Sep 2019 04:24 PM PDT Hi, Reddit. I've had a pretty crazy few months with my MacBook Air and was looking for some advice. I bought a MacBook (2018) on January 1st, 2019. I paid a total about $1300 for the laptop including some accessories and tax. I use the laptop for a few months, and start having the infamous keyboard issues. The keys were duplicating and bugging out when they shouldn't have been. I start reaching and realize this is a pretty big problem. Crap. I go to my local Apple store, show them this problem, and they say we'll fix it for free. So, they do, and a week later, I get my repaired device. Awesome. I thought this would only happen once and I could move on. A few weeks later, I start having the same problem again. Sprayed it with air, did the basic troubleshooting, and go back into the Apple store. I show the guy how my keys are duplicating, but when he tried, magically, it just stopped. That sucked. They sprayed it with air, said dust came out of it, noted it on my file, and sent me away. Fine. A few weeks later, it starts happening again. This time, I spray it with air and still have this problem. I sent an email, some keys duplicated and auto correct didn't catch it, and I send a professional email with a dumb typo in it (the 's' key duplicated... That was embarrassing.) Now, I'm pissed. This isn't what I except from Apple products. I have a lot of Apple products, and this has been my worst experience so far. So, I walk into the Apple store and say I want a refund. This is ridiculous. People have been through this repair several times on several generations of Butterfly keyboards. I don't have the time to go to the Apple store every few months, deal with them, wait A WEEK to get my product fixed, and go back and get it. That's not fair. I need my laptop to be working every day without question. I can't have this. Anyways, I show them the keys problem and say I want my money back. They get the manager and this guy is so rude and so harsh... He seemed like he wanted to hurt me. He said, "We'll either fix it, or you can leave. We won't give you a refund." Fine. Be like that. Even store credit would be fine because I'm planning to get a MB Pro later in 2020. I would use it then. I even made the argument of saying it would probably save Apple money if they just gave me store credit now. But, they refused. So, now, I'm stuck. Today, I drive to another Apple store and tell them my scenario. I really pushed the manager pretty hard, but I soon realized they didn't have the power to give me a refund. They did say they would exchange my laptop and give me a brand new one. Fine. So, I walked out of that Apple Store with a brand new MacBook Air, in the original plastic. Cool. Props to them, seriously. I could tell they did everything that could and may even get in trouble for making that exception. I go home and call Apple Support. See if they'll make an exception. This guy sounded like he was high and like someone woke up him from his sleep. Jesus. He was like, "I can't help you. Sorry." So, now, here I am. I have a brand new Mac Air that I don't want because if I open this product, I'm going to have the same problem again in a few months because it has the same generation of the Butterfly keyboard. Apple sold me a faulty product. I didn't know I was going to have keyboard trouble. I know what their policy is, but when they sold a bad product, I should be able to get my money back because I don't have the time to go every few months, show the guy the problem, wait a week to get a new laptop. That's not fair. Even if they give me store credit, I'll use it and they'll probably make money in the long run if they do because as I've explained, I'm planning to buy a MacBook Pro later in 2020. So, thanks Apple, for giving me a bad product, making me waste my time, and not giving me my money back. Question: if I took this Mac into my Apple store with the plastic on and everything, could I get my money back? I don't really have a receipt or anything? Could they just give me store credit since it's unopened? Or will they find out through the serial number? [link] [comments]
Anyone use a square trade warranty? Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:34 PM PDT Squaretrade for a MacBook Pro for 3 years is $100. Covers cracked screens and spills with the misc coverage for hardware failures. No deductible and total repair value is capped at $1600 over 3 years. Apple care is $270 and is similar in coverage but has a $100 screen replacement and $300 other cost with a max of 2 total fixes over 3 years Square trade seems substantially better and I noticed they were bought by all state. Anyone have experiences with them? Supposedly you just use Apple repairs and then they refund you the repair cost after [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Sep 2019 01:25 PM PDT I currently have an early 2015 mbp 2.7 i5. I see online somebody selling an early 2015 mbp 2.9 i5. How much of a difference would this make in real world? My usage normally consists of chrome browsing, emails, Microsoft office apps, and some adobe photoshop and lightroom. I also run windows 10 off an external ssd using similar stuff. Does anyone know of any good quality 3rd party magsafe 2 chargers? Posted: 30 Sep 2019 05:23 AM PDT My issue is not the price and if an alternative brand of charger that is reputable gets found I would not have a problem paying more than the standard price of the magsafe chargers which for me is £79 direct from apple. The problem I have however is that the OEM chargers have extremely weak materials used on the cables. I find this frustrating since this power adapter is more expensive than most, which would be fine if I didn't have to replace it once every 2-4 years. If anyone has recommendations of power adapters that have a similar quality transformer but better cable materials I will be very grateful. [link] [comments] |
