    Might be an obvious question, but I can't find too much looking online.

    If you own a Macbook, iMac, etc with the preinstalled OS, are new versions free?

    Like, if you're on Mojave, will Catalina be free upon release?

    Bonus: I was always opposed to upgrading any OS on-top of an old version. Preferred to backup the drive, format it, and do a fresh install each time. Helps start fresh and avoid any problems from stacking updates on top of each other. Is this still a good idea in the current macOS family? Or just take the new ones as they come without formatting. Thanks.

    No video out through USB-C dock on 2019 MBP under both Mojave and Catalina?

    I'm trying to get video output to one monitor (a Dell ultrawide) from an HP USB-C G4 dock. There are various posts about people using this dock with macOS, all complaining about the lack of MST support; however given that I'm just using one monitor this doesn't concern me. The problem is that I can't get any output at all, I've tried both DisplayPorts on the dock, the HDMI port, as well as a USB-C to HDMI adapter plugged into the dock's USB-C passthrough. The same adapter works when plugged directly into the MacBook. Is there some step I'm missing, or did something change about dock support recently?

    So I TRIED to restore my MacBook to factory settings.. I reset it after wiping the disc. Does it not have macOS installed? Can this be fixed, and how if you’re so kind

    Apple Wireless keyboard needs to be re-paired every time I reboot Bootcamp. When I go to settings in windows, it shows as paired. But no matter how I click it, it doesn't connect. Or reboot my keyboard. I have to manually remove the paired keyboard and re-pair it. Every single time I reboot Bootcamp.

    Funny thing is, it doesn't happen to the magic mouse. It remains paired and automatically connects.

    Anything that I can do to fix this ? Manually removing the paired Wireless keyboard and re-pairing it is a pain.

    My drivers were all downloaded from Bootcamp assistant, specifically for my MacBook 12 inch.

    Any ideas guys ?

    Is another device using my IP address?

    I woke up this morning to turn my alarm off before work, and I saw a pop up saying something along the lines of "Another Device is Using Your IP Address." I clicked "ok" without really paying attention and after a second panicked not understanding what that could mean.

    I looked into it and it seems to be a 'common' issue? The internet is pretty divided though; some saying that it's a harmless simple fix and others saying that someone is trying to redirect their illegal activity to my device.

    I've been at work for the past several hours, and I'm just getting home now to figure it out. If it's the latter, I'd obviously like to get this person off of my device as soon as possible.

    Just a little info on my WiFi situation:

    I have a wireless xfinity router. I haven't had service for the past day and was using a paid xfinity hotspot pass. Every so often my WiFi disconnects from the xfinity pass and joins the unusable router. My computer was in sleep mode when this error popped up.

    Again, I'm no pro and far from an expert when it comes to any of this. For all I know I was hacked, and with little information it's easy to chase that idea. Even if it could be a simple fix, is there anyway to check if it really was another device using my IP (for peace of mind)? Any help is very appreciated!

    Parallels and Boot Camp question about limitations

    Hi everyone, I see with Parallels it says if you use the Boot Camp partition as your VM partition, you can't pause, suspend, etc. That makes sense, but was just wondering how that relates to sleep. For example if I have Boot Camp partition Windows running in Parallels and then close the lid on my laptop putting it to sleep, what happens to that Windows that's running? Does it just go to sleep as well? What happens if I reboot my Mac or just quit Parallels or force quit it? Thanks!

    Malware infection after latest security update to High Sierra

    Malware infection after SEP security update, High Sierra. Just did this and suddenly after restart I have this dreaded Coordinator Plus browser hijack malware, and others. ClamXAV sees it but can't get rid of it. Everything is fine in safe mode. Recomendations? I can't even get to a website in regular start up mode to download a malware removal tool; hopefully that works in safe mode??

    Continuity / Handoff & iCloud Safari Tabs Between iPhone & MBP Is Not Working Correctly

    My '12 MBP's (Mojave) continuity / handoff is not functioning correctly with my iPhone XS (iOS 12.4)

    ​

    1. It works intermittently, and when it does, no matter what application is open on my iPhone, it shows up in the MBP dock as Apple Mail. (eg. my Calendar or Safari is open on my iPhone. The MBP's extended desktop will display the Apple Mail icon.)
    2. Safari tabs on my MBP do not show up on my iPhone's Safari cloud tabs. Vice versa, my iPhone's tabs do not show up on my MBP Safari's cloud tabs.

    Other features seem to work: Airdrop, Continuity Camera, Bluetooth Hotspot, etc.

    All machine and iCloud settings are correct. All devices are on the same wireless network and iCloud account. Signing out of iCloud and resigning in on all devices has had no effect. With Bluetooth On or Off has had no effect.

    I'm feel confident whatever the bottleneck is, is happening at the MBP / Mojave level and not the phone. I have two iPhones and both are currently sharing their Safari tabs with one another via iCloud.

    Is there a way to flush the Handoff settings and start fresh. Is there some sort of Plist file just for this feature?

    MacBook Pro volume control not working with Jabra Elite Active 65t earbuds

    When I press the volume up or down buttons on my Jabra earbuds, the volume does not change. All that I get is a recorded message from the earbuds stating "battery high/low" . This only occurs while the earbuds are connected to my MacBook Pro (2017). The earbud's volume controls work properly when the earbuds are connected to my iPhone. Have any of you experienced this same issue, and is there a fix? I attempted to update my earbud's firmware and tried resetting the earbuds, and I am still having this issue.

    I bought a used Mac laptop and I don’t have the Admin Information.

    Last year I bought a used Mac laptop off of my grandpa who bought if off of someone else and fixed it. He doesn't have the information of the previous owner so I have been SOL for a year trying to figure out how to somehow unlock the administration... I have done countless hours of research and tried so many things. I haven't gone to an Apple store because I don't want to be charged a fortune. I bought an external drive and can't even access that without my administrator info. So if anyone has any answers that would help me I would be very appreciative and thank you so much! My version of the MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

    [How to] MacBook wake/play podcasts as an Alarm with a set time.

    There used to be a feature somewhere on OSX or in iTunes where I was able to set a selected podcast to play

    I know if If I go to System Settings> Energy Saver > "Shedule" ...... I can wake my mac up at a certain time...

    Where is the Garageband 16GB file? How to back it up?

    When you download Garageband from the App store it asks you if you want to download a free 16GB instrument pack.

    Where can I find this download? Is there any way to back this up? I have an external 2TB drive ready but can't find where it downloads to or a single link to download it from Apple...

    how to change default view in finder?

    i need help with the storage on my macbook air

    hi! i need help with optimizing my storage on my macbook air (it's called HAL). it's from 2014 i think so he's hanging in there but i'm running out of storage and i'm not sure how to help it.

    i have an external drive with 999GB of storage that my dad gave me that i just remembered about (i named it baby HAL), so i downloaded my movies onto there. i only had a few but it took up 31.84 of GB on the external drive but then it didn't really free up a lot of space on my computer? i now only have ~6GB more free than i did before. i also had a load of ZIP files from when i used to download music and i deleted all those and emptied the trash and it said at first it freed up 8GB but then the amount that was freed up slowly went down. i tried restarting my computer last night to see if maybe it just needed to like recount everything but that didn't really change anything.

    when i first go to about this mac > storage, the makeup looks like this. but then after a couple minutes, it changes to this. is my system supposed to be taking up that much storage? is there anything i can do to minimize the amount of storage my system is taking up?

    another thing i need help with is getting the photos off my computer. you can see in the second image, they're taking up a lot of space. i downloaded all my photos in the Photos app to the drive (it took a long time, i just let it do it overnight and i woke up and it was more or less finished). and then i went to settings and unlinked my photos from the cloud and it asked if i wanted to delete photos but it wasn't anything near the amount of photos i actually have. i did that and it didn't really free up any space. but maybe the photos are actually stored in a different location than the photos app? i don't mind loading them off into baby HAL but i'm just not sure where to start. when i try to delete the photos with the Photos app, it says i will be deleting them off all devices. i don't want that, i just don't want them stored on my mac but i want to keep them on my phone and in icloud. i can't even import all my photos off my phone into icloud when i plug my phone into my computer because i says i don't have enough storage.

    i need to be able to use adobe programs on my computer for school, but i can't even open photoshop because it says my scratch discs are full. i don't really even know what that means and google is really confusing when i try to look up how to clear them.

    sorry if this is a really stupid post, i'm just looking for help. if anyone can give me advice (really slow step by step is useful because i keep getting confused really easily when i try to look stuff up online) that'd be really helpful, or if you can recommend trustworthy programs that will clear space? i'm just not sure what's reputable and not.

    Any one else having this problem in Catalina? Every other Adobe program downloads and installs fine but no matter what I do, I cant get Photoshop to install. I've tried renaming, deleting, and installing older versions and nothing works. Any tips?
