Posted: 24 Oct 2019 07:24 PM PDT Apple's software updates have broken Home Sharing on the 3rd gen. Apple TV. Other devices may be affected but I have no knowledge of this. If you sign out of your Apple ID, clear data, or restore the software, you will not be able to sign in again for Home Sharing. No other services are affected. I've called Apple Care and they had me do a lot of troubleshooting on my 3rd Gen (including taking video of the process to prove I'm not an idiot). It turns out, I was the first to report the issue. Apple has confirmed to me that this is a defect in their software ecosystem and a ticket is open. Apple Care personnel has told me that the problem is a conflict between the Apple TV's authentication process and the Apple ID authentication process. As of last week, they do not have a solution nor did they provide me with an ETA for any fix. SO yeah, I'm basically hosed. What triggered my issue was a software restore. If you have an Apple TV 3, DO NOT log out, DO NOT clear your data, DO NOT restore the software. Those will trigger the error. My second Apple TV 3 is still working normally because I have avoided restoring, clearing, or signing out. [link] [comments]

Is anyone still holding out on a new Apple TV? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 08:52 PM PDT I've had a 4K HDR TV for a little while now, but I've been waiting for the rumored new Apple TV to be released. Since we only have a week left in October, an October Media Event is very unlikely. I guess there's still a chance they could release it without an event. I use my current Apple TV exclusively for streaming (no gaming). If there's nothing announced tomorrow, I think I'm gonna go with the Apple TV 4K. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, which my TV supports, so I can't imagine a new Apple TV being a game changer. [link] [comments]
Posted: 24 Oct 2019 06:24 PM PDT When my sound bar detects a audio signal, it changes. The problem I'm facing is- sometimes the audio changes during a film and it causes my sound bar to have a delay/stop working while it's adjusting. Is there a way to set the Apple TV to a certain audio output? [link] [comments]
Are we expecting an update or should I buy one? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 08:05 AM PDT Wanting to buy an apple tv and thought I had heard that an update was not expected anytime soon. However I did just check macrumors.com buying guide and they have it listed as a dont buy. https://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#Apple_TV Does anyone have any insight on to what the plan is with the Apple TV. Is it possible they will release one with appletv+ subscription service? [link] [comments]
Which sound bar that has volume control from Apple TV? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 02:20 PM PDT So I have a Sony (Android) TV (specifically KD65X9000E). It has their version of HDMI CEC. The Apple TV can control the on/off of the Sony TV. However, the Apple TV cannot control the volume. I have read up on this and (I think) I know that "volume control through HDMI CEC" isn't always present whenever a TV says it supports HDMI CEC (or whatever the brand calls it - Sony is BraviaSync). Side note: I wish this was more clearly spelled out somewhere. I am also aware that I can control the volume through IR - which is what happens now. But when it is setup this way, you lose a lot of what iOS has to offer - specifically, I am talking about the volume control you get on the "Now Playing" screen on your iOS device from its lock screen (never mind the fact that IR needs line of sight and hence I can't turn the music down from another room). Another side note: my cheap as chips second, tiny TV supports everything, hence plays much nicer with iOS so I know what I'm missing. Anyway, I have two questions 1) Will I be able to control the volume of a sound bar through HDMI CEC if the TV itself doesn't support the volume component of HDMI CEC? 2) If so, what sound bars support this?? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:11 AM PDT "Apple has said that the TV app on the web will officially support Safari, Firefox, and Chrome web browsers. " Are those only the desktop browsers or iOS/iPad OS browsers as well? I do have the TV APP on my phone but also trying to figure out if I can use iOS/iPad OS browsers to cast to chromecast connected to my TV... Also, is chrome the only browser on iOS can natively cast content to chromecast? [link] [comments]
Decision to but, just when is the question Posted: 24 Oct 2019 09:10 AM PDT I wasn't going to buy one originally but with Disney plus most likely not gonna be on Fire TV, I started thinking about it. Now, today's news about Apple TV only on certain Fire TV devices (somehow my 2nd gen isn't getting it like wtf) I'm gonna end up getting the Apple TV. Now it's whether I should wait to see if they announce a new one by the end of the month. It would be stupid for them to wait till after TV+ launches on the 1st [link] [comments] |
