What to use when running windows on a mac? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 05:35 AM PDT Should I use parallel desktop or is sacrificing storage for bootcamp more worth it? [link] [comments]
Lost 60% battery capacity in just 40 charge cycles, help? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 03:54 AM PDT Macbook Pro Retina, 13 inch, late-2012 model. Replaced my battery on October 4th with an aftermarket model, didn't seem like there were any issues to start off with. Just checked today and the battery is now only holding 34% of its original design capacity now? Calibration issue, or did my new battery die again? Thanks in advance!! [link] [comments]
2 144Hz monitors on 2019 MacBook Pro Posted: 24 Oct 2019 02:58 AM PDT I just recently purchased 2 Samsung Space monitors (these guys: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07L9FS1PD) for my work setup to use with my 2019 MacBook Pro. Will I be able to use either/both of them at the full 144 Hz? The monitors don't have USB C, so I'll have to convert from USB C to HDMI or DisplayPort. I'm open to buying a dock if necessary! Posted: 24 Oct 2019 02:40 AM PDT Hey Guys, I've got a 2019 15" Macbook Pro, only about 3 months old. At work I connect 2 USB-C monitors to it, 1 via an adapter that also carries power and a USB bank (with HDMI for the monitor). This all works fine. I've been experiencing issues once I disconnect from this though. If I disconnect with the laptop open then its all good. But if it's closed, or goes to sleep, then the screen fails to turn back on. Well it turns on because I can see the pixels power up, but there is no image. If I randomly close and open the lid sometimes the image comes back, but often I have to completely reset. Has anyone else experienced this? Or does anyone know the cause/solution? Cheers. [link] [comments]
Cheap used MacBook that will last? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 01:59 AM PDT I have a 2007 MacBook running Windows 10, but I can tell the end is near for it. I'm looking to buy a used MacBook that will be able to get OSX updates for a few more years. Won't be doing anything crazy with it. Just web browsing, iMessage, email, etc. what years and models should I be looking at? [link] [comments]
2018 Macbook Air - keyboard replacement program experiences? Posted: 24 Oct 2019 01:17 AM PDT Hi all. Does anyone here have any experience with getting their 2018 Air's keyboard replaced under the free repair program? I've got the repeating keystroke problem on my S, E, I, N, K, O, and L keys, as well as the space bar, and the left shift frequently behaves as though I'm still holding it down for a short while after I release it – so I get STuff LIke THis happening maybe half the time when I'm capitalising something. Anyway. I mostly wanted to ask two things... 1) Do they always replace the entire keyboard, and does doing so necessarily entail replacing the keyboard + trackpad + aluminium top case + battery? 2) Will the replacement keyboard be the same tweaked model found in the 2019 Air? Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]
Can't screw SSD in place in Macbook, but can have it connected - Any downsides? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 05:38 PM PDT Basically, opened up Macbook, put SSD in it, connected it, then my dumbass realized I didn't have the right screw driver to unscrew the old HDD's screws keeping it in place. Is there any downside to just.. Leaving the SSD in there as is? It'll boot up and everything, and I never take the laptop with me anywhere [link] [comments]

What do y’all use to clean out dirt under the butterfly keyboards? Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:17 PM PDT My 2017 MacBook keeps getting dirt under its keys but now something got under my function key and I almost pried the whole key off trying to get it out. Any suggestions that don't involve me destroying a key I use regularly? [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:57 PM PDT If shouldn't be here please delete. I bought a MacBook Pro after I bought a base MacBook Air late 2018 and want to sell it. I used it maybe less than 10 times. Im not sure on pricing but was going to sell it for 300. I think that maybe too cheap. might ask 400? I seriously opened it up, added a few things, then surfed the web, then realized I needed a MBP due to work and use. If there is a different sub or something please let me know. I dont know if I want to post it on the Book of Faces or Craigslist. [link] [comments]
Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:40 AM PDT Hi, reposting from the megathread because it does not seem to be very active. I want to buy my first MBP and I need some advice on which version to buy. I am going to use it for machine learning/data science work (training will all be done in the cloud with data preprocessing locally) and possibly drawing comics (with clip studio paint, using Wacom Intuos). So I am thinking of buying either: 1. MBP 13 2017 with 2.3 GHz i5 dual-core 8GB memory and 256 GB storage for ~1100 USD. 2. MBP 15 2019 with 2.6 GHz i7 6 core 16GB memory and 512 GB storage for ~ 2650 USD. Considerations: 1. Cash flow; I can buy the 2017 version straight away but it takes quite a hit to my cash flow while I could get a 0% interest loan for 18 months for the 2019 version. 2. Worth; This is my first mac computer ever. I am worried if I will not utilize the machine I buy for more than 2 grand if I am not so experienced in utilizing the computer to its highest potential. 3. What is the expected shelf-life of these two MBPs? I am trying to minimize the cost/year. Thanks! [link] [comments]

iCloud drive "remove download" doesn't work Posted: 23 Oct 2019 02:14 AM PDT I want to delete local copy of files that is uploaded on iCloud drive from my mac. But as the title mentioned, when I select a file and click "Remove Download" button, the local copy of the file is removed but right after that the file is downloaded automatically, make local copy on my mac again. "Optimize Mac Storage" option is currently turned off. What should I do to fix this? [link] [comments]
