Had my first tumble with the 11 Pro

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:21 PM PDT

So I just had my first tumble with my 11 Pro and I figured I'd share just so people can have some real world understanding of how sturdy the phone is.

I took my phone out of its case cause there was a cat hair on the back glass and I could see it cause I have a clear otterbox. Once I have it out. Give it a good wipe down with the little cloth that comes with a screen protector. And the little fucker slips right out of my hand like a bar of soap.

I was in my tile bathroom. The drop was maybe 3 or 4 feet but like I said it shot forward and then fell down. It looked and sounded like it hit the corner of the phone and then landed face down (which always fucking terrifies me, glad I also had a glass screen protector) but anyways I pick it up to examine, not a scratch or ding anywhere on the thing. Before it landed face down it tumbled a couple times so the back glass and camera housing glass definitely hit the tile.

Anyways im super surprised and impressed. Apple built a mighty strong phone here. I've made similar mistakes before with an iPhone 5s and a 7 and the results weren't as good trust me lmao (broken screen protector on one, broken screen on the other because I was between screen protectors).

Tl;dr dropped my iPhone 11 pro on hard tile and it came out unscathed. Great job Apple.

Edit: of all my posts I've made on reddit, the one about me dropping my phone gets over 1k. This is how I'll be remembered when I die lmao

iOS 13.1.1 saved my battery on iPhone 11

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:42 PM PDT

Just got new iPhone 11 and noticed the battery was draining rather quickly which surprised me since everyone was saying it was great in the 11 and 11 Pro. Saw the update for 13.1.1 last night. Installed it and noticed a remarkable improvement. Been unplugged since 7am this morning. 9:42pm now and I'm at 72%.

    In need of iPhone boxes!

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 09:28 AM PDT

Hi there guys, I own a phone shop and lately business has really been booming with my refurbished phones I buy second hand, test them out and replace what needs to be replaced (customer still has 2 years warranty)

But the thing is, I want to put only some phones on display and the rest of the phones in boxes with their cables etc. ready to be bought. Where can I find boxes that fit iPhone 6 etc? I could never find them anywhere.

just blank ones by the way, it don't have to be ''apple'' boxes or anything

Android user for ten years… just bought an iPhone Pro. Here's what I think:

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 12:59 AM PDT

Thanks to iOS now having an app called 'Files', I decided that it was time to try life on the dark side and pick up an iPhone 11 Pro.

Got it on launch day, so I'm a week in.

    Here are my thoughts:

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN: This thing is stunning – it really is a cut above any Android device. I guess I'll soak up all of that beauty for about 30 seconds before I stick a case on it.

SPEED: It's snappy as hell – and certainly feels faster than the latest Android devices.

SCREEN: Forget the blacks, the refresh rate etc… the colours just look right. Whoever calibrated this thing should get a St George's Cross.

Also, thanks for not making this one of those stupid curved screens. Nobody wants to have to crouch down to see the bottom of their movie.

CAMERA: Lovely – if you want something this good on Android you've got to be buying a Pixel, which cuts down the Android options. I actually think it makes me better looking.

APPLE WATCH (Series 5): Picked one of these up as well. This is years ahead of the latest Wear OS Fossil Gen 5. It's smaller, faster, more responsive, the battery lasts about 50% longer and the heart rate monitor is vastly more accurate. Both make me look like nob but I don't care.

THE UI: For the love of god, why do developers keep putting the back button in the top right corner?! We're two years into this form factor now – this is a mess. C'mon Apple: you're supposed to be good at this.

THE KEYBOARD: On the plus side, this does feel way more accurate than anything on Android. But where's the bloody comma? Those of us over the age of 12 quite like using punctuation thank you very much.

iPAD: Why am I mentioning the iPad? Because nobody should ever buy an Android tablet (ooh, controversial) and being able to share apps between both devices is a big bonus.

BATTERY LIFE: I'd have to dust my 3310 off to get anything close to this.

DEFAULT APPS: Don't like Safari. Siri is pants. Can't change them. Lame.

CHROMECAST: This is the greatest little gadget known to mankind – and the official apps won't play with it. Lame.

TL;DR: It's not an unqualified success, but I'm not switching back.

Anyone have any thoughts on the chances of bilateral charging being implemented with the Pro line in a future update based on the presence of the hardware for it?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 08:47 AM PDT

With the teardowns showing that the hardware needed for bilateral charging to happen is present do you think they will enable it in a future update? I know they didn't say anything about it when the phone was announced but I think that they're just trying to avoid another AirPower situation.

Also if you have one of the new phones and put your watch over the Apple logo it attracts/holds it to the phone with a magnet.

BIG upgrade (16GB iPhone 5 -> 128GB iPhone 11). How to I get a handle on not only the new iPhone 11 features, but all the TONS of new features since my iPhone 5 (incl. new stuff in the OS, since my 5 hasn't supported anything after iOS 10.3.3)?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2019 06:57 AM PDT

Just upgraded (finally) 2 days ago, and I have the feeling there are a 100+ new features (big and small) that weren't on my only iPhone 5 running iOS 10.3.3 -- which has been my daily phone for going on 7 years now.

I know there isn't any kind of one-stop list of new features specifically different between the 5 and 11 -- but after SUCH a huge leap, all at one time, where do I even begin to find out what I don't even know about?

    Thanks!!

I'm heavily invested in the Google ecosystem, but looking to switch phones. Can I still be a heavy Google user with iPhone?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 02:47 PM PDT

TL;DR Can I still have a good iPhone experience as a super-integrated Google user?

I don't mean to intrude, first post here... I've been with Android/Google for almost 10 years and I've never had an iPhone. I use a ton of Google services and hardware, including Google Home devices, WiFi hardware, Pixel 3 XL, Chromebook, tablets, and then most of their software services such as Gmail, Assistant, Docs, Sheets, Pay, Calendar, Chrome Browser, Contacts, Home, Play Movies, and most importantly PHOTOS.

My latest Android devices have been from Samsung, and most recently the Pixel line. But I might be ready for a change! I'm over the whole customizability thing and I just want a phone that works well, and also today works well in the Google ecosystem. The iPhone 11 Pro has caught my attention due to its camera upgrades. I don't want the Max because I'm ready to move back to a 1-hand-able phone. Also I have hundreds of dollars invested in the Play Store, but have no problems paying for apps I'll need from the App Store.

(Yes I know I'll have a better experience if I integrate other Apple hardware, but that's not what I want right now, thank you.)

Can I do this? Can I get the newest iPhone to work well in my Google world?

Bonus question for those in the know: I'm a runner with a Garmin Fenix 5X Plus. Is it iPhone friendly?

    Thanks for your comments! 👊🏻

(I'm coming from Android 10 and I was a beta user, so I'm already used to, and prefer, gesture navigation.)

Considering trading in my Pro Max for the 11

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:18 PM PDT

I was originally going to buy the 11 but chose the 11 Pro Max last minute. However the more reviews I read, the more people prefer the 11 over the Pro models for the value (the 11 is half the price of what I paid for the Pro Max) Would I be missing anything if I go down to an iPhone 11 from my Pro Max other than the battery life? Is the screen difference noticeable?

Has anyone changed from the iPhone 11 pro max to the 11 pro?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 04:19 PM PDT

I bought the 11 pro max. I am actually looking to exchange it for the 11 pro. I came from the note 10 but looking for the smaller phone. Has anyone made the switch from a larger phone to a smaller phone? How do you feel about the change?
