    Hugely disturbing security problem

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 08:15 AM PDT

I got my iPhone 11 Pro Max yesterday. I set everything up and it sure is a great phone.

Today I decided to change my iTunes credit card. I used the take picture feature. It read my card well but then when I saved the card someone else's credit card was saved! A woman's from Illinois. I have her full name, billing address and last 4 digits of her credit card!

That felt like I could steal their money any time. And they could steal mine? As proof I took a snapshot of their info and then immediately removed the card.

I don't know what to say. It is just unbelievable.

A small note for new iPhone 11 Pro owners: I confirm that screen protectors from the XS Pro fit the new model perfectly. They can be had for cheaper than those marketed for the new iPhone. Always use protection.

They Made the iPhone 11 too good

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 08:31 AM PDT

So I usually get the Pro or Max or whatever the largest most expensive model each year, well because I can. But this year I got a red iphone 11 as well just to compare the two and return one. Truth be told minus the screen (which isn't as big of an issue as people say) I'm having a hard time justifying keeping the pro max over the plain 11.

The differences are an extra camera, supposedly better battery life and the screen mostly. Minus just design choices like stainless vs aluminum and matte vs glossy.

As a lot of reviewers are saying, the 2x zoom isn't something a lot of people use and the drop in quality when zooming almost makes it not worth using at all. Next is battery life, but the XR was already a better battery than the Max last year by over an hour and the 11 is 1 hour better than the XR. That puts it not far off from the Pro Max's battery life, especially since it has too push a lower resolution than the Pro Max. Finally the screen. Now I am a tech snob to some degree and I laughed at the XR and its low res not even full hd screen. Comparing the two side by side though I actually prefer the LCD on the 11 over the OLED. Sure blacks are better on the OLED and the resolution is higher, but unless you're on a plane watching movies on your phone, does anyone care about resolution that high on a phone? Youtube doesn't even play in over 1080p on any iPhone and that's the vast majority of what I watch on my phone.

So these somewhat modest upgrades over the 11 clock in at around 400-700 dollars more depending on the storage size (also the 11 offers a nice 128gb option for only $50 more while the Pro makes you get 256 for $150 more) This is insane because I can get 2 iPhone 11s for the same price as a 11 Pro Max 256gb after tax.

It makes it seem like Apple didn't have enough to make their Pro phone actually Pro besides the camera, which the 11 already has minus a dinky 2x zoom lens.

How do you guys feel about the 11 compared to pro or pro max now that they're both in

4K 60 FPS on the front camera is extremely dark - but you can’t lower the resolution without also lowering the resolution of the rear camera

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 07:07 AM PDT

Hello! I got my iPhone 11 Pro yesterday and I'm absolutely loving most of it!

I did notice a fairly large flaw last night - there does not seem to be a way to set resolutions separately between the front and rear cameras. I want my rear cameras in glorious 4K 60, and it seems to hold its weight in low light wonderfully, but the front camera in anything above 1080p 30 is pretty much pitch black, but 1080p 30 is nice and bright.

It seems obnoxious that I can't set different resolutions for the different cameras separately with such a variation in quality, and even more obnoxious you have to go deep into the settings to change it as well, which I'm not going to do every time I want to film rear camera vs front camera.

New 11 intel modems, how are they?

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 02:14 AM PDT

Hi, I live in an area with spotty reception especially during travel and for that reason a modem superiority between Qualcomm and intel has been important for me.

I just wanted to know if anyone with both an older Qualcomm iPhone and the new 11 could test and see if these new intel modems are now on par with older Qualcomm modem iPhones. Also will the 4x4 memo allow better reception versus the 2x2 mimo lte on the regular 11?

iPhone XS Max to iPhone 11 (iPhone upgrade program)

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 08:34 AM PDT

I just received my iPhone 11, and as someone with not so large hands I love the size so much more than the XS Max. Also loving the extra wide angle cam!

It's hard adjusting to the screen, though. The OLED on the XS Max has been amazing, and going to not so pixel dense LCD is jarring for sure.

I mainly "upgraded" to the iPhone 11 for the camera and the cheaper monthly installments. I have 14 days to decide whether to return it or not, anyone else in a similar boat?

iPhone 11 models and their cellular bands overview

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 05:00 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying an iPhone 11 in the USA when I will be traveling there next year. Apparently, there are three different versions of the iPhone 11.

I've done some research on the differences between models and figured I might as well share it here.

I will come back to this thread and update it if find more differences.

    iPhone 11 A2111 (USA) iPhone11 A2221 (Rest of world) iPhone11 A2223 (Hong Kong & China)
    GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz) GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
    UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz) UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz) UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1700/2100, 1900, 2100 MHz)
    FDD‑LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66, 71) FDD-LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 32, 66) FDD‑LTE (Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 29, 30, 66, 71)
    TD‑LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48) TD-LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48) TD‑LTE (Bands 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48)
    CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz) CDMA EV-DO Rev. A (800, 1900 MHz)
    TD-SCDMA 1900 (F), 2000 (A)
Only iPhone with exclusive LTE bands used by Japanese carriers Only iPhone with TD-SCDMA, which is used in China
Dual SIM: eSIM + physical SIM Dual SIM: eSIM + physical SIM Dual SIM: 2x physical SIM. No eSIM support
Cannot disable camera shutter sound because of EU privacy rules Chinese version/privacy concerns?

I found the following info on these differences:

The US models have frequency bands 14 and 71, used by AT&T and T-Mobile. They also have CDMA modems needed for rural voice coverage on Sprint and Verizon's older 2G/3G networks. They do not have LTE bands 11, 21, 28, or 32. Especially in Europe, the US models will get poorer coverage and speeds than the world models will.

Band 28 is a globally popular, low-frequency coverage band used in Australia, Latin America, Europe and Asia. Band 32 is a supplementary speed band used in Europe. Bands 11 and 21 are used exclusively in Japan.

The "rest of world" models, on the other hand, if used in the US, would have limited LTE speed on AT&T (because of band 14) and less rural LTE coverage on T-Mobile (because of band 71). They would also have less rural voice coverage on Sprint and Verizon, because the "rest of world" models lack the CDMA modems that Sprint and Verizon's older 2G/3G networks use. (You can tell this by flipping between the US and UK product pages.)

India uses bands 1, 5, 40, and 41, which are on both models, so both models should work in India.

The Chinese models have the same band layout as the US models, but have two physical nano-SIM slots rather than one nano-SIM and one eSIM. From a hardware perspective, they should work in the same countries as the US models. I'm not sure what else may be different about them—Chinese phones also often have special firmware to do things like delete the Taiwanese flag emoji, so they may behave unpredictably if used with a non-Chinese primary SIM card.

The iOS 13 features and perks you've probably missed

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:58 AM PDT

To everyone who misses being able to 3D Touch on the keyboard to move the cursor

    Posted: 21 Sep 2019 03:23 AM PDT

I would use 3D Touch a lot on the keyboard to move the text cursor around and to select text. I was pretty bummed when it didn't seem to work at all on the new phones.

Don't lose hope! You can still move the cursor around, you just need to hold down on the spacebar. You can select text using 2 fingers while in that mode.

It's definitely not as good as 3D Touch but at least it's partially usable still.

PSA Don’t unpair your watch from your current phone before setting up your new phone.

    Posted: 20 Sep 2019 12:50 PM PDT

So I didn't know that  had made it really easy to pair your already setup watch with a new phone, so while in the  store today I unpaired my series 4 from my X🅂 max in preparation for setting up my 11 boy was that a mistake.

During setup iOS asks if you would like to pair in my case Jeremy's Series 4 so I hit yes but since my watch was already unpaired and in pairing mode nothing happened and it screwed up my entire restore process and it took me almost an hour and half to get my 11 setup properly and my watch paired correctly, ugh.
