iPhone X losing charge super fast Posted: 05 Sep 2019 08:44 PM PDT Mi iPhone X charges normally but then goes down to 20% super fast, in minutes. I've restarted and closed background apps and nothing. What could be wrong with it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2019 06:12 PM PDT Hello. I recently found my ipad minis - first and second gen, that appear to be icloud locked. I tried to remember the passwords, emails, back up emails, and phone numbers. I still can't get into them. I know how to bypass them, but is there any way to unlock them? I am willing to pay a bit for someone's help.... Thanks [link] [comments] |
Clone HDD to SSD issue. "Not enough space" Posted: 05 Sep 2019 08:22 PM PDT I'm trying to clone my HDD onto an SSD, and I keep getting an error message halfway through saying "destination does not have enough space". Both my HDD and SSD are 500GB, and my HDD only has 284GB used, yet after the error message, the SSD has 492GB used. How is this possible? I'm running 10.14.5 on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro, if that makes any difference. Any ideas how to solve this? [link] [comments] |
iPhone 8 will not lock but can power off Posted: 05 Sep 2019 07:21 PM PDT My IPhone 8 will not lock either using the button or assistive touch but holding down the lock button will still let me turn it off. Turning it on off makes it work a few times before it starts again. [link] [comments] |
Upgrading 2008 Unibody MacBook Pro to SSD Posted: 05 Sep 2019 10:00 PM PDT I've been thinking about upgrading my aging MacBook Pro to an SSD. The hardware side of things seems easy enough, but I'm not sure how to get OS X reinstalled on the new drive. It's currently running OS X El Capitan, but shipped with Snow Leopard. If I still had the original discs it came with, I could probably figure it out easy enough. But I don't, it's been 11 years so I feel it's somewhat understandable. I have time machine with all my data backed up, but I don't think I can use that to get OS X on the new drive. How do I go about this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Sep 2019 03:01 PM PDT 22% Hi Lads, I bought the brand new 15 MBP about 2 months ago. And so far I've been experiencing poor battery life. I'm sitting at a cafe, designing a website, before I left the house it was fully charged, I have been sitting here for about an hour and a half and my MB is already at 19 percent (now). Mind you I use a design program called Figma, but it doesn't seem so heavy compared to Adobe. Take a look at my screenshot, maybe this is normal? Idk.Thanks. By the time I'm writing this it's now at 15. EDIT: My MacBook literally just went from 15 percent to 17? [link] [comments] |
MacBook 13-inch Late 2009 weird battery problems. Posted: 05 Sep 2019 04:57 PM PDT I have a MacBook 13-inch Late 2009, with a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4GB RAM, with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M. OS MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 The battery seems to charge to 100%, but when I remove AC Power, the battery starts to drain quickly, in less than 30 mins., it reaches under 20% charge. I left the Mac charging overnight, and today I unplugged again AC Power, the battery is draining, but not as fast as yesterday. Any help appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Question about upgrading the CPUs of an X Serve 3,1 Posted: 05 Sep 2019 02:00 PM PDT the highest end Xserve had dual Xeon X5570 which is quad core at 2.93 Ghz. That chipset and socket are compatible with up to the X5690... which is a 6 Core at 3.46 Ghz chip. Has anyone done this sort of upgrade on a xserve? Would this work? [link] [comments] |

Download iCloud pictures to my Photos app Posted: 05 Sep 2019 04:14 PM PDT I am so confused. You know when someone sends you pictures, but all of them come up as an iCloud link? Well, when I go to that link and it takes me to safari, I sign into my iCloud so I can, ya know, download the pictures. But there's no option to SAVE them to my photos. So they're on my iCloud? But not my photos? Whyyyyyyy?? No one else on the internet seems to be having this problem and I am so so frustrated. [link] [comments] |

[Advice needed] 15" MacBook Pro 2019: Barely functional, Apple Service unresponsive. Posted: 05 Sep 2019 11:08 AM PDT tl;dr - Newly purchased 15" MacBook Pro 2019 (with AppleCare) crashes on a video call. Have tried everything possible but Apple service is barely responding.<rant> Hi everyone, I am coming at the doors of the reddit community for advice on how to proceed next. I purchased a 15" MacBook Pro 2019-model (16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) on 02/07/2019 from the Palo Alto, California Apple Store. The device worked perfectly and I was really happy. I travel a lot so did not get a chance to completely setup and test the device completely. Fast forward ~20 days and I am back in Dublin, Ireland. I switch on Google Hangouts to make a video call. The device crashes ~30 minutes into the video call. I switch it on again and make a call again. Crashes again. Might be something wrong with Google Hangouts on Safari. I switch over to Chrome. Crash again. Install Skype, a crash again. (It took me a while to figure out it was video calls) I look at the logs, no panic. The computer is doing something and suddenly the next line is bootleg[0]: BOOT_TIME. Restart reasons are like: Called apple support. They walk me through different steps: resets, flashes, etc. but the problem does not go away. Took the device to a service centre in Dublin, Ireland. The guy attending did not listen to anything I had to say, and said they will run diagnostics. Good enough, I submit the device. Diagnostics come back with nothing. Awesome! I respond on email that the problem is present and someone should in the least look at logs. The logs clearly show that the device suddenly powers off and I mention that there is no panic. I receive a call back in a day, and the guy says device is ready for collection. I mention the issue at hand, but the guy rudely says something on the lines of "The device is ready. If you have problem, contact apple." I go and collect my device. The repair report mentions: "Checked logs - no panic records" (No shit, Sherlock!). I escalate on phone apple support. I was assigned a "senior advisor" who walked me through a reset. No help! He opens a bug for engineers to look at. Asks me to upload logs and data through a "Capture Data" utility. All good. Still hopeful. ~10 days pass by and I finally receive a reply: "Our engineers have come back with an update this morning. They advise that the diagnostics provided does show a possible hardware fault with the Main Logic Board and are recommending hardware service to remedy the issue." By this time, I am in New Delhi, India. I take the device to a service centre nearby. I mention the case number, but the guy says they will run their own diagnostics. Fine enough. The guy does a thorough job, he is able to successfully replicate the issue after testing the device on multiple video calls over a two day period. He goes on to replace the Main Logic Board which takes ~15-20 days. Awesome!! And, … the problem remains. I escalate again on the bug. No response. I call the service centre, and the guy says that he does not know what to do next and will follow what happens on the bug. I call apple support and get assigned a new person who takes over the bug. He promises a best case response in 2 days. It has been 11 days. No response. Not even replies to email reminders. It's been almost 2 months and I do not have a functioning machine. I am moving to Switzerland in a few days and need a working laptop. The crashes are very bothering and I cannot work. I am very much dependent on video calls because I am travelling and whenever I switch on a video call the device crashes corrupting data and affecting my work. </rant> So r/applehelp, what do you suggest? What should I do? P.S. - New account for obvious reasons. [link] [comments] |

How to turn off data while abroad while maintaining SMS capability Posted: 05 Sep 2019 02:47 PM PDT Hi all, I'm going to be studying outside of the US for a year, and I was wondering if it's possible to turn off data on my phone (so as not to incur internet/app related roaming charges) while still maintaining SMS text functionality (I'd like to still be able to receive SMS texts that people send to my US number while abroad) I know putting the phone into airplane mode or switching off cellular data entirely would take care of the roaming charges, but to my understanding this also would prevent SMS capability. However, in settings, I noticed that if you go into cellular -> cellular data options -> roaming, there's an option to specifically turn off data roaming only - would this do the trick? Sorry if this is a dumb questions lol Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Why does my Macbook Air keep using Yahoo as search engine? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 02:06 PM PDT I don't have any extensions or anything weird in Safari's preferences, I checked apps I downloaded and all of them are the ones I know (Spotify, Illustrator, GIMP). I think after around a week of having my Macbook (bought new this year but it's the old one - 13.3") suddenly Yahoo became my search engine in Safari. Sometimes whole Safari freezes until I restart the computer. Problem exists since around May and since then I keep my laptop updated. [link] [comments] |
iCloud backup- does it restore the version of the app you had when you made the backup? Posted: 05 Sep 2019 01:42 PM PDT As title. I don't do automatic updates, and I was just reminded of why again today when I updated an app on my iPad and suddenly it seemed to have lost the iPad layout it had before. Reading through reviews, apparently there's a bunch of other things wrong with it. I'd reaaallly like to revert to the old app, and I have regular iCloud backups, but I don't sync to my computer so I don't have an old version there. If I restore an iCloud backup, does it grab the newest version of the app, or does it download the same version I had when I made the backup? [link] [comments] |
A Question about updating my Mac OS. Posted: 05 Sep 2019 01:12 PM PDT Hey all- total Apple newbie here. I needed a computer for school, but rather than buy a new one (money) I took my wife's old/slow Macbook Pro and wiped it totally. It's running fast and well- the only problem is that it's old enough to not support some browsers, and consequently, some web functions. I've attempted to research and fix this as well as possible, but it's problematic. Here's what I know thus far: So I'm wondering if it is at all possible for me to upgrade to a new OS and what is the best way to do that. Thanks in advance for all your help! If there is a better subreddit to post this in, please let me know. [link] [comments] |

Late 2013 Retina Macbook Pro Swollen Battery + Blown Right Speaker Posted: 05 Sep 2019 12:57 PM PDT Hi all, My Macbook Pro has just returned from World War 31791529 all bruised up and battered. It needs some serious surgery. He stepped on a land mine and right now his right speaker is totally blown out and has crackling sound. He is now crying for aid on a temporary Bluetooth speaker. His battery took a few shots and is now all swollen. I am afraid his days are numbered. I gotta put him through surgery and save him and restore him to his former glory – a war hero. I did some research online and it seems I can just request for a Battery replacement and the surgeons over at Apple Hospital will replace the entire top case which includes the 1) Keyboard, 2) Track Pad, 3) Speakers, and 4) Battery? Is this true? Is this really killing 2 birds with 1 stone? Or do I have to opt for 2 separate surgeries? Can anyone please advise? Thank you. Please help me to save this war hero!!! Keyboard Keys are having a hard time pressing down Posted: 05 Sep 2019 12:20 PM PDT Mac Specs: MacBook Air 11-inch Early 2014 OS: (pretty old) OSX 10.9.5 It feels purely like a mechanical issue and so far it has affected the letters: E (as is yesterday), RTFIO. It feels like something squishy is between the keys when it happens. They can go down not too easily and excessive force is needed for a button to be recognized as pressed. I noticed I was able to eliminate the issue for RTFIO by prying the key off and cleaning the assembly and the capacitive surface with 99% isopropyl. With E: yesterday I suddenly had an issue with E. I cleaned it up several times. It was fine for a short while, then it stopped being fine. Then it was fine again and the issue migrated to R. Cleaned R up and now R has no problems. Then E has a problem so as a test I swapped E assembly with R. E was fine temporarily, and now it's not. The other keys are fine now. Why is this happening? [link] [comments] |
