Is there any Android tablet that comes close to being as good as an ipad

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 10:40 AM PDT

I've tried a lot of devices but the Ipad pros, 2018, mini 5 are all so good. I've only used android tablets for a little bit, they are more customizable but they are laggy compared to an ipad. Maybe the samsung s4 and beyond? Are they close to being as good as ipads?

What to do with an old iPad

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:31 AM PDT

Hi folks! I have an old ipad 2 and am not sure Ebay I can use on it still. It won't keep any browser open (I've tried chrome and safari), it won't update past 9. Whatever iOS, and even a photo frame app will crash everyday. Any thoughts on what I can do with it? I would love to make it a dedicated smart home remote, but Alexa app won't load either. Can i load a different, lighter os? Can i use it as a wireless display for a PC? Web browser? The hardware otherwise works great, I'd hate to just dump it. Thanks in advance for any info!

New to iPad Pro and have a few questions about purchased accessories

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:30 AM PDT

I went from a 9.7 inch 6th gen to a 12.9 inch 512GB 3rd gen iPad Pro yesterday to combine my writing career and personal use tools into one! I don't regret my choice at all and my mom is very happy with her only lightly used 256GB 9.7 inch and 1st gen Pencil now! My question (this will make me sound very stupid, I'm aware) is how do...I charge the Apple Keyboard? Does it need to be charged? Am I missing something or is there really no need to charge this thing with a cable? My other question is about the 2nd gen Pencil. Is it safe to leave it attached to the iPad when not in use? Do I need a carrying case for it? The keyboard makes a perfect cover and I wasn't planning to buy a second carrying case unless absolutely necessary. I kind of set my wallet on fire at Best Buy already, lol. Thank you for reading my post and any help offered!

    Current Status of iPadOS

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:10 AM PDT

With the latest beta version currently out, would it be worth installing?

I am running the beta on my phone and it is running pretty smooth in my opinion, and if the iPadOS is running as smooth as the ios13 beta for iPhone, I would be happy to install it. If not, I'll wait it out a bit longer.

    Export perticular pages?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 02:49 PM PDT

So I recently downloaded a textbook for school as a PDF and I was wondering if there was anyway I could export certain pages to one note or notability. This way I could export question pages and then answer them.

Also what is a good app to annotate and save large PDFs.

    Safari Default Search Provider Issue

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 05:35 AM PDT

Has anyone run into an issue with Safari when you have DuckDuckGo set as your default search engine where it just loads a blank page instead of search results when searching directly from the URL bar? I switched back to Google and it hasn't done it at all, however, DDG does it probably 1 in 5 tries. Just curious if anyone else noticed this.

    Contacts on iPadOS

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 03:41 AM PDT

Is anyone else having trouble with the syncing of contacts? I enabled contacts in iCloud on both my new iPad pro and my iPhone but only a few contacts from my internship 2 years ago show up. Maybe this is an iPadOS bug?

Is the general consensus here that the Apple Smart Folio is bad?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:37 AM PDT

    Hi everyone.

I see a lot of posts with iPads that are using a third party keyboard. In fact, many of the top posts here have third party keyboards.

Why is that? Is it not that great?

edit: thanks for the thoughtful responses!

The iPad Mini is fantastic! My experience using the Mini in combination with my iPad Pro as well as implementing it into my daily routine.

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 08:31 PM PDT

    TLDR at the bottom!

A few days ago I made a post asking others to talk about their experience living the multiple iPad life; what their specific use case is for the set up.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up and IPP 12.9" (2018) mainly because iPad OS. I had tested a 10.5" Pro a while back but it wasn't ready to be a laptop replacement, so I had to take it back. iPad OS REALLY caught my attention and made me rethink having another Pro. After the two weeks I used my 12.9" exclusively, my MacBook Pro (2017) found itself back in it's box, sold and shipped.

The IPP is an absolute beast and paired with a stand, the pencil, the Apple Magic Keyboard, and my Logitech MX Master 2S, I can easily get all of the work done that I need to, whether it be for work (teacher) or grad school.

As much as I have loved my 12.9" Pro for a few conferences and workshops, it's just too big to be using as an all around tablet/computer. It gets uncomfortable trying to lug my huge iPad around the house to browse social media and consume media.

This got me thinking that an iPad Mini, running iPad OS, might be a great way to get that iPad experience while being just "small" enough to carry it around with me everywhere. I was skeptical but after buying and using the mini for a few days, I can honestly say that this device is AMAZING. It fits in my little sling bag (yes, I'm one of those guys who wears the oversized fanny pack across his chest every day) allowing me to answer all of my texts, emails, consume media, everything my phone can do except talk on the phone. I'm glad I kept my generation 1 pencil laying around because I keep that in my bag to, pulling it out for those times that I need to write something down or just want to do some doodling. The Mini also works as a great screen to display my research while I type on my IPP.

Along with my Mini being a great productivity device/leisure device, my iPad Mini has had me using my phone so little, that I returned my XS Max and saved myself $550 by grabbing an iPhone 8. I still need a phone of course because there are going to be times where it just isn't reasonable to take my Mini with me but I don't need a phablet sized phone anymore…and I still need to have the ability to make phone calls.

I say all that to say, if you are someone like me who is on the fence about grabbing an iPad Mini, whether it be for work or play, you should definitely do it. If you do grab a Mini, pay for LTE, it is also super worth it. I do think that the iPad Mini could definitely work as a standalone device for school, if you are on a budget. As long as you don't need any special software, you should be okay.

TLDR: The iPad Mini is amazing. Get LTE to go along with it. Has become my most used device, causing me to return my XS Max in exchange for an iPhone 8. The Mini is powerful and capable enough to be used for school but I prefer it as a companion to my iPad Pro when it comes to getting work done.

TIL that smart keyboards aren't covered under AppleCare.

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:31 AM PDT

My keyboard (smart keyboard for 10.5 inch iPad Pro from 2017) died after around 1 yr 9 months of daily use. It kept not being detected by the iPad, like it wasn't plugged in. Alright I thought - I'd bought AppleCare at the time of buying the device that I'm still covered under for a few more months so it should be a simple case of getting a replacement right?

Not so, sadly. The in-store rep explained that the pencil and iPad is covered under AppleCare but not the keyboard. I did at least manage to get them to give me a replacement for a reduced price of £100 (down from £159), but I'm left with a pretty bitter taste in my mouth that Apple won't cover their own hardware with their own warranty/insurance product - they certainly didn't point out that at the point of purchase.

I assume the reliability issues are part of the reason for the new keyboard design.

Irritatingly, the keyboard had always been a tad dodgy while it was under 1 year old, but I assumed it was a software glitch and not a hardware issue otherwise I'd have returned it long ago!

iPad screen locks while I’m playing games

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 04:31 AM PDT

    Hey all.

I just inherited an older iPad, and I decided to download icewind dale to relive some old gaming fun.

As I play this game, the iPad screen occasionally goes black.

It's as if I hit the power button, but I didn't. I can hit the home button and put in my password and the game is right there.

I remember having a similar issue with my iPhone a long time ago and figuring out it had something to do with some kind of sensor, but for the life of me, I can't figure it out on this iPad.

Any help y'all can offer would be appreciated.

    TIA.

How do you connect the new iPad Pro to a Windows PC?

    Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:11 AM PDT

So I have an iPad Pro with USB-C, a USB-C to USB converter and a USB to USB cable. All connected up to the blue USB port on my computer. Neither the iPad or computer detect the connection. My iPhone via lightning to USB works fine.

I have a HP Prodesk 600 G1 SFF, my device manager lists a "Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensivle Host Controller - 1.00 (Microsoft)" which I assume means USB3 is enabled.

The cables I have are the "amazonbasics USB Type-C to USB 3.1 Gen1 Female Adapter Cable - White" and a "UGreen 3.0 A to A Cable Type A Male to Male Cord for Data Tranfer Hard Drive Enclosures, Prjnters, Modems, Cameras (1.5FT)"

    Help :(

Hand writing notes app that works well with iCloud

    Posted: 04 Aug 2019 09:49 PM PDT

TL;DR: Is there an app that is similar to notability that allows me to store my notes solely on iCloud versus having to store them locallY?

So I am going into a new program starting in September, and I am looking at going paperless. I currently have the new iPad Pro with 64Gb of local storage (and an additional 50Gb of iCloud). I only have recently really enjoy using iCloud since I have started using iPad OS and IOS 13.

Anyways since I am looking at going paperless and have iCloud storage, is there any good note taking app that allows me to actually store the notes on iCloud instead of having the store them locally? I currently have notability which I really enjoy but I have to store the notes locally with the option of then exporting them to iCloud which is not what I want to do obviously. I have heard that GoodNotes is also a good note taking app but in Canada it is $11 + tax and I would like to know it can do what I am looking for before dropping that much on a single app.

I know I could just use the built in notes app but I tend to find that I use that for quick notes and do prefer a different app for school related stuff (I know that may seem weird)

If anyone has any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated.
