‘Desktop-class browser’ really is a bit of a game changer

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 07:46 AM PDT

Downloaded the beta last night of iPadOS and whilst there are obviously a load of improvements, the one that will really make a difference to my workflow is the proper browser.

I've been using Edge and Chrome as my desktop is using Windows, but being able to use proper web-apps like Asana or Quickbooks without them reverting to apps makes such a difference in the updated version or Safari. Even having desktop-type Google searches makes a nice change.

I was considering switching back to a Surface but the changes in the new OS are making me stick with my iPad Pro.

Now I just need to figure out how to better sync passwords and bookmarks. If only Safari was available on Windows with keychain built in, that would be perfect. I know I could use 1password but I find it so frustrating to use compared to keychain / face ID.

Any ios apps that will remind me to look away from the screen?

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 01:12 PM PDT

All I can find are apps that will set reminders every so often, with no regard to whether I'm using my ipad or not. I can do that without an app. I'm using Stretchly on my desktop. They support basically every OS on the planet except ios.

iPad Pro 11” makes a fantastic ebook reader

    Posted: 22 Jun 2019 10:16 PM PDT

This is probably the most I've read in several years since I got the iPad Pro 11 inch earlier this month. It's not gigantic like the 12.9" and it's quite easy to hold in the hands. Plus the graphics quality in iBooks is dramatically improved from previous versions I've tried before.

Anyone know of any USB-C hubs that allow you to remove the cable? I want to avoid situation like this where the hub is dangling in mid air because the cable to too short.

What are your favourite iPad games that take advantage of a controller

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 01:14 PM PDT

Excited for when the iPadOS public beta comes out and I just figured out my Xbox controller has Bluetooth, so I want to try out some gaming on my 12.9 iPad Pro. So far the only things I know of are some emulators and Minecraft.

One feature I would really love for iPadOS

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 03:37 AM PDT

One feature I would love to see for iPadOS would be the ability to put files from the files.app into the dock. If I'm working on a pages document, like on the Mac, I should be able to have that document in the dock. Not just apps in the dock.

This to me would be a huge feature and make the iPad more productive.

Hope Apple considers this for the next update.

    iPadOS video out query

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 11:15 AM PDT

    Two questions:

    1. Can the iPad's display be 'extended' to another monitor/only mirror it/only extend video?

    2. If mirror only, what happens with Netflix and other DRM'd video apps?

    What iPad should I buy?

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 10:45 AM PDT

Im looking at getting my mum an iPad because she is still on an iPad 2nd gen and she uses it a lot. She says she wants an iPad mini. She also works a lot and shares a MacBook Air with my dad. Should I get her an iPad (9.7), iPad mini 5 or a refurbished iPad mini 4? Id get her the mini 4 because she likes the size of it but the 9.7 inch would be able to nearly replace her MacBook Air. The mini 4 is quite cheap but it only uses the A8 where as the others use an A10 and A12 and i want it to last for a decent amount of time.

Im not looking at spending over 500 really since I'm 17 and only have a few k saved up to get me through college. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Im thinking of going tomorrow and want to present it as a present. I can't ask her since she might suspect something is up.

Also, which is the best iPad cover and where can I get a cheap apple pencil 1st gen?

Just got my first iPad (9,7) purely for reading PDFs, magazines and long articles on websites. What tips can you give me? (browser advice, useful touch gestures, OS tips and tricks, iPad accessories, apps, etc.)

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 10:38 AM PDT

For my PDFs, I'm pretty much locked in on Readle's PDF Expert for reading and annotating PDFs. It's kind of too late to switch PDF app now, since I've already annotated and taken notes in several PDFs and I've gotten used to the experience.

Other than that, what should I know for increased productivity, accessibility, better reading experience, better battery life, etc.?

Emails, texts, calls, reminders, calendar events and everything like that is banned from my iPad, since I only want to use it as reading device where I won't be disturbed or interrupted.

    Thanks!

Still worth buying the iPad 2018 (Ipad 6th Gen)

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 09:25 AM PDT

Hey, I am a student and I'm looking to buy a new tablet to take notes on. As I already have a pretty powerful laptop, I don't need the best of the best specification wise.

Should I get the iPad 2018 version with the 1st generation apple pencil, or wait until a new 2019 version might release?

    Thanks in advance!

iPhone apps on iPad concept! (Enough of that idiotic 2x zoom)

    Posted: 22 Jun 2019 08:06 PM PDT

Im an Android fanboy, and after using an iPad for 2 months, here’s what I think!

    Posted: 23 Jun 2019 04:40 AM PDT

My background - I've been using Android devices for a while now. I love the customisation that comes with it. I rooting, installing custom ROM's and playing around with my devices (Rooting is like Jailbreaking, but for Android and Custom ROM's are clean, stock versions of Android that you can install onto your phone to make it faster and get rid of bloat and crappy manufacturer Ui's.)

I kinda got board of Android and adventurous me gave in to constant pushing from family and friends. Before I shelled out $$$ on an iPhone, I thought I'd buy a cheap 6th Gen iPad to try iOS out. At first, I thought I'd miss out on a lot of customisation, but boy, am I impressed!

First, I'm going to start off with what I love about iOS. I honesty thought it was going to be a bit slow as the 6th Gen has just 2 Gigs of Ram and a 3 year old A10. Surprisingly enough, it was BLAZING fast! iOS was running like a clockwork on this (comparatively) cheap and older device!

As for the interface while I like Google's material design, this was like a fresh coat of paint. I love iOS 's beautiful blur effects. Best of all- the animations. iOS is so freaking fluid! I kept opening and closing settings for like 5 mins! That app closing effect looks really cool. I also love the swipe right for back gesture. Speaking of gestures, this imo is the best thing about iOS. Every thing is so fluid and into intuitive! Apples attention to detail is just amazing. Overall, I'm pretty darn impressed by 🍎's awesome optimism and fluidity. Most of my apps worked the same, too.

As for the cons, there are a few major ones that were pretty irritating. Firstly, WHY THE F*** can't apps download stuff in the background? If I need to download some YouTube videos, the app needs to be open🤧 Also, while I like the default keyboards swipe down for numbers, it has no swipe support and the predictive text just SUCKS. I know, there's Gboard and Swiftkey, but... Don't get me started on that f*ing volume hud!

I'm writing this from my iPad. Honestly, I think I'll buy an iPhone! Except for those few idiotic cons (They can be fixed in an update), iOS is just amazing. Anything I'm missing out on? Any tips for me?

Ipad 6th gen w Netflix app viewable on tv screen

    Posted: 22 Jun 2019 11:11 PM PDT

Hello, it looks like this gets asked every couple od months with mixed results but oh well:

I want to be able to watch movies from my netflix account with my mom when I visit her. However, her house doesn't have any internet, or wireless set up, so I am guessing my best option is to download netflix movies to my ipad (6th gen, 9.7") and bring it to her like that. She has a big tv screen so I wanted to connect my ipad to her tv via lightning to hdmi adapter and hdmi cable, but it looks like most of the time this doesn't work because of netflix side app protections.

Can anyone recommend a specific cable that will work? Or point out some workaround?

    Thanks in advance.
