    Widget recommendations for iPadOS

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 08:49 AM PDT

Just looking to see what apps people like having for widgets pinned on the home page. Seems really useful but none of the ones I've got at present are jumping out at me.

iPad bent out of box - retailer demanding manufacturer report

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:57 AM PDT

I bought the 11 inch iPad pro but it came bent out of the box I was aware if this and used the device carefully in the time being and want to return it. I didn't return instantly because I live some distance away from the retailer. They are accusing me of bending it and want Apple's report, how are these reports typically done?

This is totally unacceptable for a 1000 pound device

How to add an app to multitasking mode when it’s not in the dock? (iPad OS)

I made a video about a very affordable but super protective case for the 2018 iPad Pro. Check out my review if you’re looking for a case that’ll sufficiently protect your expensive iPad but won’t break the bank!

    Device sanitation & screen protectors

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 07:14 AM PDT

    Hey, folks!

I'll be using an 11" iPad Pro w/ Apple Pencil in a healthcare setting. I want to minimize microbe and other contaminant transmissivity both ways (me ↔︎ device ↔︎ patients). To keep it sanitary, I have considered 2 options and would like some community opinions:

    1. Full-body case w/ in-built screen protector:

      • Pros: case can be cleaned with alcohol wipes or washed without concern, iPad stays clean and protected inside
      • Cons: many such cases exclude a Pencil magnetic attachment site and other features like multiple viewing angles, keyboard attachment, etc.; Pencil and Bluetooth keyboard would need to be disinfected separately anyways with cleaning solution mentioned below
    2. Screen protector w/ case that protects back & sides + daily wipe-downs using microfiber cloth dampened with 60/40 water/alcohol solution

      • Pros: more accessory options (Pencil attachment site, keyboard attachment, multiple viewing angle cases, etc.); disinfecting screen protectors is less worrisome since they can be replaced if damaged by water/alcohol solution
      • Cons: constant need for cleaning; higher risk for water damage in case of poor care during cleaning (e.g. water dripping into speaker vents)

I'm leaning towards #2, but would appreciate input from others about these sanitation methods or other suggestions and experiences.

On a slightly related note: does anyone use paper-like screen protectors and know of the effects of alcohol solutions on them?

IMO, pen-on-paper resistance/feel > stylus-on-glass. I've heard some good things of these protectors and want one if I'm using method #2. However, I'd need to disinfect that as well with the aforementioned solution or disinfectant wipes of some sort and I'm not sure if that will significantly wear the protector. It can be replaced, but I'd rather stick with one protector for a long time if possible (less monetary, time, & environmental waste).

e: apparently, paper-like screen protectors can be cleaned with the aforementioned solution without risk!

    Thanks in advance!

Unable to get latest Magic Mouse to be seen/pair with iPad 12.9 running iPadOS. Help?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 11:40 AM PDT

I went into the settings and did what I was supposed to do, I believe. The Magic Mouse is turned on and it's not being recognized when it's searching for a Bluetooth device. Has anyone else run into this option? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT - Could it be because it's paired with my iMac? the iMac is shut down completely though?

For those who tried iPad OS

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 10:44 AM PDT

I saw so many people on this subreddit posting pictures of their iPad running iPad OS and I do have a question. Is the beta stable now? Can it be used on my daily driver iPad Pro 12.9" 2018 with little to no problems?

Add .m4b (audiobook) file to Books app w/o iTunes?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 06:44 AM PDT

Is there a way to import an .m4b file to the books app in iPad OS without using a computer? In the files app, Books is not listed as an option for this file type. It works just fine with epub files.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Very near future iPad user with accessory questions

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 01:38 PM PDT

    Hi!

I will try to keep it short and sweet, dessert is great!

I am getting an iPad pro 12.9 for drawing and some mild general usage (Netflix in bed, maybe movies while traveling, other such things) and I had a few questions about it:

First one would be about a case. I don't want the keyboard one as I won't type a lot and I was wondering what the best choices would be. I heard that the Apple folio case - something - tends to fall off and doesn't sit too well so I would like to know what alternatives I have.

Second one would is about a screen protector. While I want to make sure my screen is "safe", I am also worried about the quality of the image and the effect this would have on the Apple pen. I keep hearing about the PaperLike screen protector and how good it is for drawing, but I also hear that it kinda ruins the image quality and because of the rough texture, it wears the nibs of the pen really fast. Is that true? Am I better off picking a different protector? Or not using one at all?

    Thank you!

    Uses for an old iPad?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2019 01:09 PM PDT

I got the 2018 6th gen iPad for studies, and I have my iPad 2 from thanksgiving 2012 on me. Not sure how I can use it for its max productivity. I tried a second screen monitor with my current laptop however that just caused my laptop to heat up, so I'd like to avoid that.

Any other suggestions? Currently have it set up as a clock on a stand. Was thinking to keep it as a todo list too...
