AW not suitable for tracking day to day activities Posted: 29 Jun 2019 06:44 AM PDT Hi all, First post here and I'm coming from using a Fitbit Ionic for the past 18 months. After going through two of those I've replaced it with a series 4, 44mm and I have to say it's a definite upgrade in the smart watch department. However, I don't do a lot of actual workouts and most of my activity comes from small (but sometimes intense) commutes by bike and a lot of gardening as of late. Usually, with my previous Fitbit, it would track those activities and it'll calculate calories and add all actual active minutes to the daily goal(s). However, the AW just totally fails in this area. Today I was outside in the garden moving some dirt with 27 degrees Celsius and working up a sweat. I've done a few manual HR measurements which ranged from 100 to 150+. After 30 minutes of working I needed a small break and noticed the AW added a whole of 2 active minutes and probably about 100 calories to my daily total. The HR app showed the last measurement being 11 minutes old (!!) at 143 and it didn't think 'O, he's probably doing some activity, let's try to measure it!'. I didn't make any extreme movements with my arms, walking often a fair bit so it had time enough to try and do an accurate measurement but just didn't. And since all my searches resulted in 'Nope, can't change HR measurement interval' I can only conclude that for non-workout activities, AW fails to track these. I know I could have started a workout to do actual tracking, but compared to Fitbit's every 3sec HR measurement (1sec during exercise) this is a huge (as in; maybe going to return it) disappointment. If I did regular (track-able) workouts I'd probably be fine with it but now my daily summaries look to be from someone else because of the inaccuracy. Is there any way to improve such activities without starting an actual workout? Any 3rd party apps? Are there any good-looking trackers with constant HR monitoring that I could wear on my other wrist? One that looks more like a bracelet and preferably work with Apple Health? Thanks and sorry for the rant! [link] [comments]
Keeping streak through road trip, looking for tips/advice. Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:44 AM PDT I'm driving 1/2 way across the country next week and don't want to lose my movement streak, keeping standing would be nice too. Other than lowering movement goal to lowest possible, and shaking my wrist every hour is there any other tips people can give me? It will be 10-12 hours driving daily and I obviously won't be stopping every hour. Series 3 if it matters. [link] [comments]

ECG app for polar H10 HR strap? Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:23 AM PDT Hey guys, I was wondering if there was an ECG app that could pick up my HR from my Polar H10 strap, or if there is a way to use it with the Apple ECG (which requires holding down the button). Obviously, I know that ECG apps are limited and can't be used to diagnose medical conditions, but I just wanted to see if it was possible for curiosity sake. Any input would be appreciated. Does it matter in which country I purchase an Apple Watch? Posted: 29 Jun 2019 05:07 AM PDT Sorry for the vague question. I'm looking to purchase and Apple Watch for someone who lives in the US. I live in Canada however. It's actually cheaper and easier for me to find the Apple Watch 3 Gold/Pink watch here. I'm specifically looking at the GPS version, not the GPS + Cellular, as the person wouldn't need or use the Cellular functions of the watch. I'm just nervous as I've read conflicting reports that apple watches only work in country of purchase, while others say it works perfectly fine between Canada, the US, and Puerto Rico. The Apple Watch would be used in the US 99% of the time if that matters. Edit: What about Apple Watch Series 4? [link] [comments]

Runkeeper + Apple Music, trouble hearing Run commands Posted: 29 Jun 2019 03:09 AM PDT Hi, I like to do intervals with Runkeeper while listening to the music. the only problem is that runkeeper command is really quiet and can't here it through the music. Anybody know how to volume up runkeeper or allow it to pause music for command? [link] [comments]
Back in the AW gang after 3 years... same bug gonna chase me out Posted: 28 Jun 2019 05:17 PM PDT Had the S0. It was okay. Not great for cycling, meh for running, but I liked the other features. One thing that drove me nuts was the inability to silence 'mixed' group messages. If a group text came in with mixed SMS and Apple's messages notification settings would be ignored. Getting a buzz on my wrist in some asshat's group text that I can't get out of at 3am sucks. Bought an SS 4 LTE this week, and wouldn't you know it, same freaking problem. Arg! Getting continual pings from a group sms that is muted, but the AW ignores that. Buzz buzz buzz. Anyone else have this issue? Any workarounds aside from "sleep mode" for the whole phone? Edit: At least I know I'm not crazy: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8578149 [link] [comments]

Broke my Apple Watch the day after I bought it. What are my options? Posted: 28 Jun 2019 11:58 PM PDT I bought a Series 3 Apple Watch online from Best Buy. Literally a day after I got it, I cracked the screen while I was at the pool. Is there any warranty that could cover this or am I out of luck? [link] [comments]
Apple Watch S4 rumours by this time last year Posted: 28 Jun 2019 08:07 PM PDT By this time last year, a number of rumours of what features the S4 will have were already out. In March 2018, Kuo had mentioned there will be a 15% larger screen, even going so far as to provide the dimensions. Concepts were already out by May. In fact, by December 2017, less than three months after the S3 was released, the ECG feature had already been leaked. On the other hand, I still believe we will get an S5 this year, but I'm very curious as to how the S5 will differentiate itself from the S4, especially since we haven't seen much in terms of rumours and leaks.
