Are the latest operating systems exposing data harvesting? Posted: 28 Jun 2019 03:42 PM PDT If you're on the new beta operating systems you may have noticed that applications have been requesting permission to interesting stuff. On iOS 13, many apps ask permission to use "Bluetooth" even though the app does not utilize or require bluetooth. "This app uses Bluetooth to connect to and share information with accessories and other Apple Devices" On macOS Catalina, I just had a popular design app called Sketch ask for permission to "Record the content of my screen even while using other applications." Has my bank app used bluetooth prior to iOS 13 to acquire data on users? (bluetooth beacons) Has Sketch been recording my screen on previous versions of macOS but thwarted by new Catalina detections, or has it been using a macOS framework that as of now require the record screen content permission? The application works completely despite rejecting the permission request. Despite the potentially grim answer to these questions, I'm happy to see the newest operating systems informing users of the intentions of applications. It's clear that Apple is rethinking their operating system from the point of view of companies attempting to mine data. (Contacts framework no longer giving developers access to notes for a contact, etc) [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jun 2019 02:52 AM PDT Hey, /r/apple, This week I updated my Apple Music client, Sathorn (link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sathorn/id1447295899). I also recently made it free with an in-app purchase to unlock premium content, so now anyone can try it for free! Here are some of the new features released this week:
Sathorn makes your established music library easily accessible, yet has a dedicated space to discovering new music--all while maintaining the same iOS design feel that users know and love. Convenience is at the heard of Sathorn's mission. Basic actions such as Loving a song, playing next, playing later, or shuffling a playlist/album are all accessible via quick swipe actions. Try it for free here: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sathorn/id1447295899. Also feel free to browse sathorn's subreddit over at /r/sathornmusic. thanks and happy listening! [link] [comments]
