Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:37 AM PDT Check out this close-up image of the underside of the PowerMac G4 Cube - you can clearly see a staggered 2-layer grille design very similar to the face of the 2019 Mac Pro. All credit for noticing this goes to user jessenator on the awesome 68kMLA forums. Given that I've been a G4 Cube owner and enthusiast for 15+ years and have taken my Cubes apart many times, I'm honestly kinda annoyed that I didn't recognize that 'new' grille pattern sooner! Could Apple’s ‘Look Around’ street view cars be collecting data for self driving car AI? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 03:18 PM PDT Just a thought, Tesla have been running a system where manually driven cars run a self driving AI in the background that doesn't actually control the car but instead just sees if what it would have done would have resulted in danger based on subsequent sensor data, i.e. it runs in the background without actually taking action and self evaluates as a way to train a future self driving car AI. Meanwhile, Apple has been driving cars around the world complete with high resolution cameras and LIDAR, the same technologies used in self driving cars. It seems a bit overkill and expensive simply for the Maps app, especially for a niche feature many people won't even use. However if the spending was also R&D for a much more important project down the road - a self driving car AI - it would be far more justifiable. And of course act as a bit of a cover for secrecy. I don't know if this is a theory that's been discussed before, I can't think of any glaring holes off the top of my head. Thoughts? [link] [comments]

Will Apple ever turn iCloud into a real cloud storage with a strong focus on privacy? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 12:54 PM PDT With Apple focus on services, do you think Apple will ever turn iCloud into a real cloud storage? Currently iCloud right now is mostly a way to sync data between devices. At the moment there is no way to fully off load specific data into iCloud only. iCloud does not let you keep documents solely in the cloud and work on them without downloading it to your device. Even after downloading it you can't off load back to the cloud. I'm sure people that keep tax documents in cloud storage don't want or need that info on their devices. Do you think Apple will ever focus on iCloud add more format support and turn it into a real cloud storage where you can keep items in it without having any trace of it (no thumbnail) on any device? I think if Apple does this with its strong focus on privacy I will happily pay a premium for this feature. [link] [comments]

PSA: Apple now offers major discounts to students for its pro softwares when buying a Mac online Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:04 AM PDT Just noticed this yesterday: For $259.99 CAD, you can get a bundle including Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, Mainstage 3, Compressor 4, and Motion 5, when buying a new Mac from the Apple Online Store. It's a pretty solid deal if you're a student and a content creator! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 12:42 PM PDT As we know, the switch from Classic Mac OS brought the Aqua design language -- bright interface, colours, rounded fonts. As time progressed, Yosemite gave us the flat theme (which I still think it should have been macOS 11, we do not get a major software rewrites anyway). Now let's gather ideas in a form of a wish-list for the next major overhaul. Personally, I would love to see a design language greatly inspired by the Classic Mac OS. Although the OS itself subjectively sucked (still fastest of anything I've ever seen), its design was long ahead of its time. Long live the stripes! [link] [comments]
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 08:27 AM PDT I haven't discovered anything online related to this. I reallyyyy love the Touch Bar. Just curious, thank you. [link] [comments] |
