Posted: 31 May 2019 04:20 PM PDT When I open any of the share options, I see airdrop, but it doesn't find any other phones. Ever. My roommate can airdrop me and we both have it open to contacts only. But I can't airdrop him. Does anyone else have this issue or is it just me? I haven't seen anything online about it. I've tried all the normal stuff. Turned Bluetooth and Wifi off, restated, hard reset - nothing worked. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 May 2019 09:45 PM PDT When searching for something on Google, then clicking on a search result, it opens a new tab. Is this something Google changed on their end? Or could it have something to do with the latest beta? Didn't even realize how many tabs I had open because of this 😂 [link] [comments] |
[Discussion] iOS 12.3 and 12.4 b makes the device run warmer on the SoC area when doing basic tasks. Posted: 31 May 2019 09:06 AM PDT Hello!. I bet many of you have read me in other subreddits asking about the same, iOS 12.3 (and 12.4 b also) runs hotter on basic tasks. So, I've made some research to rule out a device specific bug or issue. As many of us we know that Apple introduced last year at WWDC' 18 a feature to older devices to make them faster, what this means is that the CPU is maxed instantly when launching apps, scrolling, the keyboard etc and then the CPU goes back to normal. For a better explanation here's Craig Federighi WWDC' 18 explanation of how this feature works. (Time stamps: 12:50 - 14:45) I own a 5S and an iPad mini 3, and I have seen the benefits this feature gives basically bringing new life to this devices but this is at a cost, battery life is a bit diminished (almost not noticeable, in my case) compared to iOS 11 but indeed the performance is better. What happens is that by ramping the CPU to its max in a short period of time the power that it needs is higher and that leads to diminish battery life. Now, after giving some background. I've noticed that in my main devices (iPhone 7 Plus and iPad 6th gen) something similar happens. But it's worth noting that performance hasn't changed since the different iterations of iOS 12, the iPhone feels faster than with iOS 10 to give some perspective. At the same time the issues has been going up since 12.0, such as poor battery life or poor signal (WiFi and LTE) this last one is because the modem in my 7+ is Intel. Since 12.3 I've noticed this behavior that is similar to the one Apple said is used in older devices, the iPhone gets warm on the SoC area which is below the dual camera and all this happens in super basic tasks such as looking at webpages on Safari, going through Twitter, sometimes while listening to music in Apple Music, while writing this post on reddit and the biggest one is YouTube (that is understandable). This behavior wasn't present on the previous iterations of iOS 12 and its been very frustrating finding a solution. The behavior is also present in the same way on my iPad 6th. I've tried a clean install without any backup and after a few days the issue is back, trying a clean install of 12.4 beta and same results, deleting apps and using alternatives (Reddit app and Apollo), similar behavior and the only difference I could find is YouTube, the app sucks and while watching on Safari the devices doesn't get as warm compared to the YouTube app. I've already reported all of this to Apple via Feedback and I would love to know if anyone else has experienced this and it would be great having help to report this to Apple because it's annoying and doesn't seems like a normal behavior. I would understand it on the 6s or any A9 device but with an A10?. PD: if you guys want to look deep into it, I leave you my settings for you to try and reproduce this behavior. I'm running 12.3.1, I tried 12.4 and have the same behavior but I went back because of a Safari Tab bug. Both iPhone and iPad have the same settings. -Brightness at 70% (you can ask Siri to put it at this percentage) with no auto brightness neither TrueTone. -WiFi on, data on, Bluetooth on and AirDrop off. -Background app refresh on. -Notifications only for messaging apps, calendar and reminders. -Location services are set to 'never' with the exception of Weather that is set to 'Only While Using'. -Analytics set to off and advertising (Limit ad tracking) set to on.
