MacMini2018-Mojave: External APFS encrypted volume as users home directory? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 11:09 PM PST I just bought the current generation Mac Mini. The version the stores stock has a anemic 256G of flash. I added an external 1TB volume with the plan to make it the default volume for user's home directories. Connected and formatted the external as APFS encrypted. Created a password as part of the APFS encrypted format process. Mounted the volume. Copied over a user home dir from /Users and used User advanced settings to make the external vol the home dir. Reboot and login as that users.....endless spinning wheel, the external vol isn't decrypted. The decrypt doesn't happen at boot. Lame, no bueno. Is there a way to add the external vol's password to a system keychain and have the decrypt/mount happen at startup? So the external vol can be FileVault encrypted AND be the home dir location? Messed with the password settings in terminal Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:57 PM PST I wanted to change my log in password to be less than 4 characters so I followed the steps in this link . It worked but now I can't use Touch ID to log into my MacBook. And whenever I type in my password to login, it takes about 10 seconds to unlock. I know that I shouldn't have messed with the settings in the first place but is there a way to reverse what I have done? edit: I posted the wrong link. NEW [link] [comments]
Change lock screen wallpaper in 10.14.3 Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:52 AM PST How do you change the lock screen wallpaper from the horrible and bland desert wallpaper to something else? How is it such a difficult thing just to change this wallpaper? I liked it when it was a blurred version of whatever desktop wallpaper you had set. [link] [comments]

What is the best extension or tips&tricks for Safari.. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:24 PM PST I'm a chrome user for ever, and I tried many times before to use another browser for many reasons like memory & battery, but I always go back and I don't know why.. But chrome get worse and worse with time, so I just removed it and I want to give Safari another try.. So if there any extension that you think it is good please tell me, Or any thing that may help me.. Also I used Adblock Plus and it is great, and I never try to look for another one, but it doesn't act the same with Safari, a lot of ads and popup windows still there, So what is the best one for that? Thanks for every one.. [link] [comments]
Apple Macbook Air 13.3” Laptop/A1466/1.3 GHz Dual Core/Intel Core i5/4GB/128GB worth it today? Posted: 28 Feb 2019 01:50 PM PST I've never owned a mac and I am rather poor, I'm coming from Windows and I wanted something quality. i admit that ebay probably isn't the best place but i figured it couldn't hurt. is this device worth it today? would it run Mojave? all i need is a machine for writing and editing and surfing. i watch twitch streams and i play hearthstone but I can do that on my iPad. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:00 AM PST I manage about 4 email accounts and I'm looking for something that looks clean and isn't too harsh on the memory. I have tried spark, works well but I don't like categorisation of my email like that. I have tried apple mail, but if I wanted something that looks so cluttered, I'd just use outlook. I need something that lets me manage my attachments easily, format text, and just looks clean (considering I have 4 accounts to manage). Good search would be great too. Edit: Something that fits well with iOS would be nice as well. [link] [comments]
Macbook pro on OS Sierra 10.12.1 has 90% full storage. 86.56GB marked as system Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:52 AM PST Hi I can't work out how to fix this. Trash is empty I tried to re-index spotlight by adding and removing my harddrive from the list but nothing happens When I search spotlight for apps I know I have it will say theres no results but it should display them. I think it is just scanning wrong and not all the files are system because it is displaying no photos and I do have at least 1gb of photos [link] [comments]

Posted: 28 Feb 2019 04:56 AM PST I'm going to a new school next year and they use MacBooks as a significant part of their learning. I've only ever used Windows before. Is there some way I can learn how to use MacOS before I start school in August? [link] [comments]
Very unusual Dark Mode Situation Posted: 28 Feb 2019 05:32 AM PST I installed Night Owl (an application which lets you change between light and dark mode based on time, etc.) While I was in light mode through that application, I accidentally uninstalled it. Now I am not able to switch back to Dark mode entirely. Partially my system is on Dark Mode, such as my Menu Bar and my Dock, rest, like my finder and safari in light mode. Any suggestions? Can't select files in Finder (after some time, not specific) Posted: 28 Feb 2019 02:46 AM PST Hey there, I have a problem on my iMac (macOS 10.13.6) that after some, not specific, time I can't select any files in the Finder app. I can't reproduce the error on purpose, got some days it doesn't happened at all and I didn't changed anything. Seems like the whole app is broken at the point it happens. [link] [comments] |
