How my Apple Watch held my hand during a panic attack and why I will never feel alone again Posted: 28 Feb 2019 11:30 PM PST LONG BUT WORTH THE READ Recently, I made a big purchase in buying an Apple Watch 3. I am a 19 year old, college freshman. There were a lot of different motives behind why I wanted to get the watch and a smaller one was a means of measuring my anxiety. It is less of an issue now as opposed to my first semester where it was seriously debilitating. I have learned how to manage it. That all seemed to fall apart last night. I have been under a normal to slightly elevated amount of stress for a college student. I was hanging out in my dorm and a friend of mine took out a dab pen and offered me a hit. I have plenty of experience with smoking so I thought "Hey one hit will get me a bit buzzed" and started hitting it. I admittedly took a bigger hit but in multiple years of smoking I have never been pushed to an uncomfortable level of high. This stuff hit me like a truck. It completely blindsided me. I am still not convinced it may not be laced with something, and I'm not the type to ever make an accusation like that. I could feel myself becoming really anxious and in an instant my whole headspace just shifted. I started panicking. At this point I knew what was coming. I walked backed down to my room and was trying to talk myself down. I looked down and my heart rate was at 166 beats per minute. Midst of a bad panic attack. I literally said aloud "Well, time to see what this thing can do". I opened the Breathe app and set it to 3 minutes. The difference in my mental state from the first deep breath to the last was night and day. But it was more than that, in a moment of terror and intense loneliness...my Apple Watch was there. It felt like someone was holding me and trying to get me to breathe and help calm me down. I felt a strange comfort in the haptic vibrations in my wrist reminding me to just breathe. I ran into my bathroom (I am in a suite with a shared bathroom) and I just broke down. I lost it. I was crying but not because of what I had just gone through, but because in that moment, It felt like I wasn't alone. It was a huge relief because with this on my wrist I don't think I'll ever feel truly alone. It was a happy purging of a fear. I have an intense fear of loneliness. The Apple Watch on my wrist held my hand. As weird as that is to type out, I mean it. When I could get gather it together for a moment I put my AirPods in an told sure to play my "Relaxing Playlists" and I listened to that for 20 or so minutes before I felt in control of my mind again. I then used Siri to call my girlfriend and close friend down the hall. They came and completely calmed me down. This perfected ecosystem of my iPhone, AirPods and Watch insured I was okay. It was a remarkably human experience from a electronic device. As someone who has aspirations in nursing, the data was incredibly interesting to look at the data in the Health app afterwards and to watch the progression of my heart rate during the episode. Here is screenshot of my heartbeat throughout the day and during the attack. Here is a more detailed look at my heart rate before, during and after the attack. You can see as I recover from it over the next hour or so and when I releasped a few times afterwards too. I genuinely can't recommend the watch enough for anyone who may be on the fence, especially if you deal with anxiety or frequent anxiety/panic attacks. Thank you for reading! TL;DR Had a weed induced panic attack, started bugging bad, Apple Watch comforted me in a human like way, I am okay. Buy an Apple Watch. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2019 08:11 AM PST I cannot renew my iCloud storage without entering my credit card details manually. How are we in 2019 without there being a seamless integration with the payment information housed within Apple Pay? [link] [comments] |

All I want in the next iOS update is for my completed reminders to *actually* sync in iCloud. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:35 AM PST Sure, adding a new reminder syncs to the other devices but completing a repeating reminder has never worked for me. When I check it off on my iPhone every other damn Apple device still sends me notifications that the reminder isn't complete. [link] [comments] |
Your macbook is not broken, maybe you just have AirPods in your front pocket. Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:46 AM PST I was sitting in the chair with macbook on my lap. Normal situation. No problem. But macbook randomly went to sleep. What?? Then I moved it little bit. Works, wierd. I moved it back, again, sleep. What?! Then I realized that I have my AirPods with magnetic lid in my from pocket. OMG. [link] [comments] |
Looks like Apple is finally fixing flickering video watching in safari Posted: 28 Feb 2019 07:51 PM PST I made this post a couple months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/a85xj8/annoying_glitch_when_watching_netflix_on_mbp/ Basically this would happen every 15 seconds https://streamable.com/06tyh Have the latest base model 15 inch MacBook Pro. Well anyways, I have noticed the screen jumping has started to happen a lot less when on integrated graphics. Very glad to see this as having to turn off automatic graphic switching is a minor pain, along with the decrease in battery life. It still expands for a fraction of a second then goes back whenever I move the cursor or change the volume on Netflix/Youtube, but other than that it looks like it completely stopped. It took them way too long to fix this problem, and even though I am glad mostly fixed it, I can't believe it is still causing problems. And it looks like it has been flickering for years. I resurrected a liquid damaged MacBook Air Posted: 28 Feb 2019 09:43 AM PST TL;DR: I fixed my in-laws' 2015 MacBook Air that had liquid damage and I've been pumped since it turned on. My MIL spilled orange juice on their MBA keyboard back in November and after the spill she kept using the computer for an hour until she closed the lid and went to bed. The next day it wouldn't turn on and so they went to an authorized service place a few days later. There the person opened up the bottom lid and cleaned up the juice stuck to the lid and told them "the motherboard is dead, it's 800€ with labor and parts to fix." They were upset and tried to get their insurance to pay for a new computer, which was denied. They ended up buying a new 2017 model for a discount at a different shop for 750€. When I saw them at Christmas they asked me to take a look. I told them 'sure, can't promise anything but it will be fun' and took it home with me. I bought an ifixit kit on amazon last week and got some isopropyl alcohol and went to work. I used one of the repair lessons on ifixit to completely tear down the bottom case. There were little drops of sticky juice everywhere but none of them seemed to be too bad- except for the huge glob that was on the underside of the logic board. I think that's what killed it. This is the component that was covered in an orange syrupy mess- I circled it in yellow. I can't find what it is, even after many google searches, if anyone knows I'd be happy to learn what it is. There wasn't any juice in any of the keys I popped off and couldn't see any when I removed the black plastic backlight cover either…which was weird because she spilled it directly on the keyboard. I didn't find any in the battery either which is pure luck. To clean the board I used really hot water and toothbrush to clean the hardened, sticky juice because the alcohol wasn't doing anything. I did go back over anywhere I put water with alcohol to make sure everything was clean. I reassembled the computer and turned it over to press the power key. Nothing happened. I thought 'well shit it's dead, and 2 hours wasted'. Then I pushed the button a second time. Bam, the thing turns on and boots up like nothing happened. It was 11:30, kids and wife were asleep, but I still let out a 'fuck yes!' and fist pumped for a few seconds. I tested everything- sound, USB, thunderbolt, SD reader, backlight, screen… All was ok. It charges ok and boots up every time with no problem. They asked me to save everything on the hard drive and wipe the computer- they're giving it to my sister-in-law. I installed Mojave from a USB stick and will give it back in March. That's it- nothing exciting, a real "cool story bro." I'm just super pumped about fixing the computer. [link] [comments] |
Considering getting Apple TV 4k, however I have a chromecast ultra... Posted: 28 Feb 2019 06:29 PM PST Hey all, So I've been thinking of getting an apple tv 4k refurb recently and I was wondering if anyone here has both a chromecast ultra and an apple tv 4k and if you would recommend the same setup. I think the 4k offering on apple tv is better and there are some QOL improvements but I don't know if it's so much better that it's worth taking up another HDMI slot in the TV. Currently the wife and I have iPhones. TIA JT [link] [comments] |

Ask to re-signin to iCloud on all my Apple devices this morning. Should I be worried? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:34 AM PST Woke up this morning and both my Macbooks, an iPad, and my iPhone all asked me to log in to iCloud. That's never happened before. Should I be concerned that someone is attempting to (or already has) gained access to my account? Anyone had a similar experience? [link] [comments] |
An issue with Music Video's streaming quality. [Apple Music] Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:02 AM PST When i stream any music video on Apple Music, the video looks as if its running at 360p and the quality just does not improve no matter where i stream and what i am connected to (LTE/Wi-Fi). Is there a toggle in settings or iTunes that you need to turn on in order for the quality to improve? Or HD is not supported on Apple Music? P.S i have set the Streaming, High Quality Streaming to ON and the issue still persists. [link] [comments] |
