    Going from Android to iOS

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:27 AM PST

I'm by any means NOT saying one is better than the other, please keep it civil and try to pitch in with advice.

I've been an Android user since 2011, days of Android 2.0. Have used a number of different Android flavors, from HTC, Sony, Samsung, LG, Huawei to finally settling with Google's offering.

My current phone is the Pixel 2, and is hands down the best Android experience I've ever had. My latest non-Google experience was with Samsung S7 on Oreo. Was fine, but the Pixel is much better. Phone features aside (excellent camera, great speakers, nice OLED display, etc), some software things bothered me, Android-wise.

    • Bluetooth is an abomination on Android. 8/10 times my Bluetooth headphones won't connect the first try, and I have to turn it off and on again (sometimes even a couple times) to work. This is not exclusive to one headphones, since I've used a few different ones.

    • Frame drops. While the Pixel has been hands down the smoothest Android phone I've used, there have still been some frame drops. It has never, by any means, lagged to the point of being unusable or crashed, but even those small frame drops bug me.

    • Apps like Facebook or Instagram have some lags where I feel they shouldn't (they lag even more on other phones).

    • Photo editing apps are pretty slow (mostly Lightroom) and I wonder if that's better on the iPhone side.

    I would like to know:

    1. Does the iPhone have the above problems?
    2. Are there frame drops?
    3. Most importantly, what would be your selling point for the iPhone?

Note: I'm not from the US, wouldn't use iMessage, and don't use Mac products, so the "ecosystem" and iMessage arguments don't really work for me.

    Tl;dr. Sell me the iPhone.

Anyone else sort of dissappointed with newer iphones?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:28 AM PST

I will probably get a lot of downvotes for this, but I can't believe there aren't other people who feel the same. So, after more than 4 years owning an iPhone 6, I finally decided it was time to upgrade. I didn't get the iPhone XS or XS max, because those were way over my budget (in my country Apple products are much more exepensive than in the US), I didn't get the XR because I didn't like it, I instead chose to get iPhone X 256GB. This still set me back a whopping €1000.

I don't hate the phone, in fact there are many things that I like about it, but I just can't justify the money I paid for it. I feel like my old iPhone 6, which is now probably worth €100 was 90% as good as the iPhone X. Really, the only real difference I see in my day to day usage is the fact that I no longer feel constrained by the 16GB, but of course I could have obtained that with an older and much cheaper iPhone as well. The camera is nice but I wasn't really blown away by it, the screen is also a good improvement, but not nearly as big as going from the 3GS to the 4, also I feel that the software isn't really taking advantage of the screen (dark mode and always on display would have made some great exclusive iPhone X/XS features). The only thing I really like about it is FaceID, but that's just because TouchID never really worked out for me. I would have probably never have had second thoughts about it had it cost €600 like all the other iPhones came before it.

So how do you feel? Do you feel that iPhone X/XS/Max or even the XR are really worth the prices you paid for them?

Apple Music removing songs as soon as I add them.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:52 AM PST

As mentioned, as soon as I add some albums to my library they instantly remove themselves. The icons go from a '+' to the cloud icon, then to '+' again.

Seems random, and sometimes only certain songs from an album would remove themselves, but it would be the same songs again and again if I retry.

    Any help appreciated!

TIL that you can set a timer in order to turn your music off

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 12:53 PM PST

If you're one of those people who enjoy listening to music on Spotify or Apple Music, especially before you go to sleep, you can set a timer using the stock clock application to turn the music off.

Clock -> timer -> when timer ends -> stop playing.

[Question] In my privacy settings, under Location Services, if I have an app set to “While Using,” does that mean the app can continue tracking my location if I don’t force close it?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:37 AM PST

Also, if I don't force close an app, is that app considered closed or open in the background? I'm assuming it's open in the background, which means closed and forced closed are the exact same thing.

Sorry if this post is a little confusing, I'm asking a few questions all at once. Thanks in advance,

Is the XS Max worth upgrading to? I currently have the X but I really want something with a bigger screen. I don’t want to go back to an LCD screen. I know that new apple phones come out later in the year but knowing Apple, the price will be ridiculous.

[question] about dual sim and iMessage..?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:01 AM PST

Can someone dumb down why this doesn't work, so the new iPhones are dual sim. I understand only ONE line can use LTE capabilities, so only ONE line can imessage at a time. However, wireless carrier connectivity is NOT a requirement for imessage, so if my Primary number is set to calls, imessage and data, why can't my secondary number use imessage when connected to WiFi?

I don't mean the widget screen. The screen I'm referring to is the one where it just shows the time

Apple care + or Insurance through verizon

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:42 AM PST

I just switched to iOS so I know nothing about apple care. I've done some research and with the two costing the same it seems most people say apple care.

But I couldn't really find why and wanted some people that have gone through the replacement process that could chime in.

Top part of the screen is non-resposnive

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:22 AM PST

So some time last week as I was going out of the shower I dropped my phone on some tiles from around 3ft. As a result I noticed that I couldn't pull down the control centre/notification screen. Also, I wasn't able to use search bars/web bars etc.

At some point it somehow fixed itself until today, when for some reason the area which is unresponsive has increased to just below the top icons. I tried pressing onto the screen where the connector is, no result.

The screen is fine, no cracks or scratches, but at the very bottom there is a slight line as if a screen protector is tearing off.

I just want to check if anyone else has experienced something similair and did they have to replace the whole screen?

    Iphone 6 battery issue

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:07 AM PST

Since the next two updates I think my battery is dying. I used to charge my phone once a day but now I have to charge it twice.

When I use it on low battery mode, it goes well but it slows down my phone and I don't like it.

Does anybody have the same issue after the updates?

Can you turn screen off iphone while screen mirroring using apple tv? And how is the lag for gaming?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:28 AM PST

Thinking about getting apple tv. Already have a smart tv for netflix and youtube but have other tv apps that would be nice to screen mirror. Can i turn off screen while it mirrors or will it stop the stream? And is there any lag that will get in the way of gaming? I play modern combat 5 and a little pubg. Call of duty mobile is coming out soon too. I dont have a game system right now so this would be great for me

    iPhone 6 screen replacement recommendation?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:35 AM PST

I bought this screen a few weeks back and its been nothing but trouble:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076H3JTL8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have to click power or home for about 10 or 15 seconds for the screen to turn on (at times). The finger print reader doesnt work anymore. States error at bootup.

Anyone have a screen they have ordered online that they can recommend?

    Thanks in advance.

IPhone 7 microphones just stopped working

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:20 AM PST

My MiL ran into this issue with her iPhone 7. All of her microphones (front, back, and bottom) stopped working. No sound on video, and when I tried to record a voice memo it told me there was no audio device found.

Tried rebooting the phone, resetting the network settings, updating to OS, and finally restoring the phone to factory settings. Nothing worked. From some googling, I found that this seems to be a relatively frequent occurrence with iPhone 7s.

Has anyone seen this happen before, and if so what is the solution. They went to the Apple Store today and they didn't even want to attempt to fix it, the solution was a new phone.

Settings App Search Function Not Working

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 10:03 AM PST

Just recently upgraded from an SE to an XR, and used iCloud backup to transfer my information. If I search for an app using the search field within the settings app, nothing will pull up.

I read about this being an issue on other forums, with two fixes: 1) reset all settings, or 2) change the language back-and-forth. Both options work, but then as soon as you add a new app, the problem occurs again with said app(s).

I'm going to reach out to Apple support, of course, even though they'll probably recommend the same troubleshooting steps I've already taken. In the meantime, does anyone know of a way to fix this permanently, without the need to constantly reset/change languages? I even tried setting up the phone as a new device, but have the same result. I imagine it has something to do with my Apple ID.

    Thanks!
