MacBook Pro Performance Issues Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:54 PM PST So, I have an early 2013 MacBook Pro 15" with an Intel core i7 and 16gb of ram, and I can't run Minecraft and Spotify at the same time without it blasting the fans and running at around 102 degrees Celsius. Is that.. normal? I feel like for these specifications, it should be able to handle something a little more intensive with ease. I have restored it and reset the SMC, and nothing as helped, as well as cleaning it of dust and reapplying thermal paste. Thanks. [link] [comments]
How to get the most out of retina MacBook Pro 2015 Battery ? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:43 PM PST I just bought a used MBP 2015 Retina display with cycle count 600 and the battery lasts about 6 hours with normal browsing and videos. Since budget is obviously a problem for me, I will not be replacing the battery anytime soon. Now the thing is that I want to get the most out of battery as much as possible and I don't know how to approach this. I know I can't just add two or three cycles everyday because once past 1000 cycles it would be not as good at holding charge. I also know keeping it plugged in all the time is not gonna be good for the battery either. Since I am gonna be using it all day everyday , the MacBook is gonna go through fair share of beating and usually peak its performance ( I will be coding app and also use production tools like adobe premiere pro , FL studio etc. Does anyone have an idea how should I deal with this predicament ? I can provide more details if it helps…… thanks anyways [link] [comments]
Is it better to get older model or newer refurbished? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:03 PM PST I need a laptop but I can't really afford a new one but I'm not sure what is a better route? [link] [comments]
My 2011 MBP 15" is dying. How to re-entry the Macbook world? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:50 PM PST Hi, I hope this is the right sub for this question. If not, please point me to a correct venue. I have the 2011 MBP 15". Obviously I love it, and I'd loved it for a long time. Except recently the discrete graphics card went (as has been well-documented) so I switched to integrated graphics only, which causes its own problems. Additionally, I can't run any OS past 10.10.5 and the cool new apps all require at least OS 10.11 or 10.12 (just today and yesterday I've had to install older versions of PIA and iTerm because latest versions were incompatible. also, Logic and Spotify have been crashing my display recently). I'm not an Apple purist by any means, but Apple offers many great programs and that unmistakable interface and ecosystem. I would like to continue using Apple for my home laptop work. When I looked up the specs for new Macs recently I was a bit let-down: 480p in the front facing camera in the Macbooks with a 12" display. I figured the MB camera would at least try to keep up with the iPhone. Plus I love the 15" display in my MBP. I don't know if the new Macbook is right for me. Is it generally assumed, similarly to speakers, that your MB will be hooked up to an external monitor? Additionally, I enjoyed being able to upgrade the RAM and HD in the 2011 MBP. I don't think you've been able to do that for a long time with the new macs (please correct me if I'm wrong). Which MacBook model should I be looking at for similar performance and versatility of my 2011 MBP? Should I spend $2800 to get the latest 15" MBP with the 512gb SSD and 16g of RAM, or would I be good with a lesser model, just connected to an external display? I feel like the 2011 MBP blazes with the 2.2g processor, 8gb RAM, and 500GB HDD, plus I don't exactly have the kind of money for a new MBP. Should I look into a refurbed earlier model? If so, what's a good year that I should look into? If it was not clear: I use my mac for programming, internet, and audio recording (last used Logic X). I would really appreciate your input! How many more years can I stretch my Early 2018 MacBook Pro 13”? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:19 PM PST Major software I use: Affinity Photo/Designer, GarageBand, Reaper. Planning to get Logic Pro X and FCPX soon. Battery health is around 82% according to coconutBattery. EDIT: It's 2015, not 2018. [link] [comments]

What are your absolute must-have apps not many people know? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:02 PM PST There are a million and one articles on the internet all talking about the same 20 or so "must-have" apps we all already know and use, so I'd like to hear about some great apps I might not now or stumble upon by myself... Hit me with anything you find interesting... [link] [comments]
Battery icon not showing correct percentage? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:25 PM PST When charging my Macbook, it suddenly jumps from ~60% to 100%. A few minutes after unplugging it, it goes back to 60%. This isn't the first time this has happened. I had the battery replaced like 2 weeks ago so it really shouldn't be a problem with the battery, right? Has this happened to any of you guys? If so, what do you recommend I do about it? It's really annoying, but so far it hasn't been exhibiting any other problems. [link] [comments]
What MacBook Pro should I get as an entrepreneur? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:41 PM PST Hey guys! I'm a programmer/entrepreneur looking for a MacBook too keep me going for as many years as possible. I do a lot of multitasking with different desktops, and occasionally edit some 1080p video which is something I might start doing more of. I would use the computer both at work and at home, commuting with it, and occasionally using it on the commute. I also have a couple of moths of school left and might study more in a few years potentially. A light computer would be nice but I've handled heavier stuff in my bag before and feel that I can multitask better with a larger display, and would love the extra battery life. I'm not quite sure though. I've also heard that Apple might release a redesign this summer, should I wait for that? I look forward to hearing any thoughts and tips from you! [link] [comments]
Is the MacBook Air (Minimum specs) a viable laptop for music production? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:21 AM PST I'm going into college and want to start making some music as a hobby. I also love the look of MacBooks and it's in my price range. I would be using the minimum specs for the newest MacBook Air. I want to run apps like FL studio, Ableton, Reaper, Adobe illustrator, and photoshop. Would this laptop work for these programs? Or would you recommend an upgrade? [link] [comments]
Macbook Pro 2012 updated and now it won't log into admin account. Says password is wrong. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:03 PM PST I've been trying to hold off on updated the macbook, but somehow it did it last night and now when I try and log into my account, it's saying the password is wrong. I never changed any password though. [link] [comments]
Macbook requires new logic board, can I even sell it? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:04 AM PST I have a mid 2012 MBP Retina. It boots up but previously just turned off after 20 minutes, apple store said it needed a new logic board. I have no idea what the value of it is, can I sell it for parts or as is? If yes how much should I expect for it? [link] [comments]
