Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:42 PM PST If you're ever in a situation where you wish an iPad or iPhone could use Wired Ethernet,. don't be frustrated,. it works perfectly! I ran into an issue this morning... when a coworker pulled out an iPad 2 (30pin connector) that hadn't checked-in to our MDM in over 342 days. There was a sticky-note with the Passcode.. but it was the wrong passcode. Wasn't sure how I was going to fix it,.. but knowing it was enrolled in MDM,.. I had an idea:
Boom. Success !!.. Passcode cleared. Then I could easily hop on Wi-Fi and factory-wipe the iPad. Here's a picture of the Setup I used (which should work equally well with Lightning to USB3.. or USB-C to USB-A dongles. ) [link] [comments] |
Anyone know why it looks like my computer took acid every once in a while? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:20 AM PST https://i.imgur.com/gyLMku1.jpg New iMac. I'll admit I think it looks pretty cool, but it is holding me up from time to time. Lasts about 60 seconds before going back to normal. Happens every few days. 2018 iMac. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Help! Accidentally deleted iTunes library Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:54 PM PST I went to delete four demo songs that I had bounced from Logic, and somehow it deleted my WHOLE library All the individual files are in my trash can currently. I have a Time Machine backup at home, but I'm at my inlaws currently. Is there an easy way to get everything back in its place? i can't "undo" thank you!! [link] [comments] |
Replaced battery on mid 2010 Macbook Pro. Won't charge Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:15 PM PST Title says it. Checked battery status and it says "battery not charging" and the only way I could turn it on was if I had it plugged in. [link] [comments] |
Optical drive not working, even after replacement Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:06 PM PST Hey everyone. I work level 1 tech support in a Mac environment (which I'm admittedly still fairly new to) and I'm having a weird issue. I had a '12 MacBook Pro (Sierra or high sierra. Don't remember off the top of my head) come across my desk that wouldn't accept disks. I checked and it was clear but just wouldn't take the disk. It would sound like it tried to pull it in, but would immediately stop. So I went through the usual SMC and PRAM reset, but still no go. I had a working (but not in use) MacBook in my office (same model) that was for in for an unrelated issue, but 100% had a working optical drive. So I swapped out the drives. During the swap, I didn't notice any damage on the board or ribbons. But when I booted up, the optical drive still isn't working. Now, it won't even attempt to pull it in. At the moment, I'm out of ideas. Anyone experience a similar issue or have any ideas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:46 PM PST Long story short, another party had my MBP for a few weeks last summer, during which our relationship soured. My MBP's screen was broken, so I had to use an external monitor to operate it. When I got it back, no external monitors (tried HDMI, USB, and target display with an iMac) would even register my MBP, let alone show a startup/login screen. I finally got around to getting a hard drive enclosure to see if I could recover my files, and to my surprise the hard drive has been wiped. Absolutely nothing showed up, so I used Terminal to view hidden files. Some stuff showed up. I'm mostly curious if the info (see here) I can access can tell me when the drive was wiped, because I'm almost certain is was done in early June by the previously mentioned other party, but it may have been accidentally done by me in August after getting the MBP back. Also curious if there's any possibility of salvaging my files, but I know the answer to that is almost definitely no.. Any thoughts are appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Can Some kind soul help me find my photos... Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:29 PM PST So I have photos on my phone. When I log onto the icloud website it shows them to be on there as well. But on my mac, the photos end at 2018. I "think" its set up to automatically send them to my mac. It always has send them but everywhere I am looking, its stops at 2018. [link] [comments] |
Apple Music Streaming and App Store downloads won’t work on LTE/3G Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:26 PM PST This started after updating to iOS 12.1.4. I suddenly get an error saying the request timed out when trying to stream a song from Apple Music. I can play downloaded songs fine and browse the For You section, just can't actually stream any songs. I can stream music fine when I'm on wifi. I realized today that perhaps the same issue is affecting my App Store; I can't download any new apps or updates only when on LTE. I've reset network settings, downgraded to iOS 12.1.3 via iTunes, reset all settings, and now finally I've updated to the 12.2 public beta. I've also signed out of iTunes/App Store, toggled the cellular settings for the affected apps, and unsubscribed then re-subscribed to Apple Music. The issue still persists. I'm about to erase the phone and start fresh but I wonder if anybody has experienced these issues lately and if there's anything to be done to fix them. [link] [comments] |
Safari Version 12.0.1 Youtube issues Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:24 PM PST Hey everyone, Does anyone have any issues on playing youtube videos currently? My issue is that every 5 mins when watching a youtube video on safari the video freezes and either goes black or gives me a playback issue. I've deleted my cache and cookies as well and still the issue prevails. Chrome however works perfectly fine however it just cooks my laptop and makes it hella slow. Also yes I did get rid of my adblocker extension and restart and the issue stopped for 5 mins then came back so I reinstalled it (cause lets be real....adblocker is a must now). But yeah any issues on fixing this would be greatly appreciated :) Oh also on Mac OS Mojave rn and everything is up to date ;-; [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:47 AM PST I used to work for apple and have made it a hobby to help people with their apple issues. Here's a video I made, and I wanted to share it with all of you here :) [link] [comments] |
Thunderbolt male to female extension cable? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:12 PM PST Is there such thing as a Thunderbolt male to female extension cable to connect the Apple Thunderbolt display to a 5K iMac's USC-C port? I tried connecting a USB-C extension cable but got no signal. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:59 PM PST Hi all, I'm really in a frustrating spot here. Apology for the block of text below, but there's a lot of back and forth going on. So, last weekend I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12.1.4, afterwhich it told me a "Cellular Update Failed" message. No matter what I searched online I could not find a solution that worked, so I took it into my local Apple store. They told me it was an inherent hardware issue with iPhone 7's and Apple would fix it, free of charge, gave me a loaner iPhone 6 and sent me on my way. I received an email yesterday that another issue had been found with the phone and I now had to pay for whatever that was, however, the website did not tell me what this "new issue" was. I called my local Apple store (after having chatted online with Apple to no avail), and they told me the issue listed was that there is a third-party battery in my phone and that the phone had been opened up and tampered with previously. They will not fix the hardware issue unless I pay for this. Now, some background as to why I am frustrated with this issue. This phone was bought brand new from Verizon two years ago. I have never broken it in any way, the store even listed it was in nearly perfect condition, and so I have never taken it in to any store, Apple or otherwise. There have been zero repairs or tampering done to this phone, except for me sending it in to Apple last weekend. I am a college student, so I can't exactly afford to have this issue happening right now. Any advice on how I can get this resolved without having to pay or a new battery or a brand new phone? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
MacBook Mid 2014 i7 15" Retina - Running Hot Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:48 PM PST The upper left hand corner, directly above the ESC key, gets super HOT. I mean hot to the touch. Reset the PRAM, the SMC and even replaced the thermal paste but nothing seems to work. Any ideas about what I could do, or is this just "learn to live with it moment"? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
My 2013 iPad went black screen Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:30 PM PST So I was doing some work on my 2013 Gt750M iMac and then suddenly the screen went black, but everything was working in the back. I tried reopening but it didn't work. Still when I try to open my iMac there is just black screen but my keyboard and mouse are working fine. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:13 PM PST My iPhone 6s switched off on its own not long ago. I put it on charge overnight and when I woke up it was off and wouldn't switch on. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:03 PM PST I just upgraded my 2012 15" MacBook Pro with 2x 480gb Kingston SSDs and I'm enjoying the speed benefits of raid 0 in El Capitan. I know that Mojave doesn't officially support Raid configurations for the OS so I was wondering if there was a workaround for this or if I'm just better off staying in El Capitan. [link] [comments] |

Is this even possible with an IPad? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:00 PM PST Hey all, just a quick question So I'm not too tech savvy with Apple devices. I'm more of a Windows and Android guy, so all Apple related things are completely foreign to me. To be honest, I bought my IPad solely because my work required a specific app that was ONLY supported by apple devices. Anyways, so I bought a book (well, really it's an app) a couple days ago where the digital version is literally only available on Apple devices. (This is sort of hard to explain – so it's a book, sold by the publisher, but it's within an app format. It's not like just buying a direct PDF of a book. The app is free, and comes with about 25 pages of the book for a preview, in order to have the rest of the book you'll have to do an in-app purchase to get the rest of the pages.) This book/app thing isn't recognized as a book by Apple's "Books" app. So from my understanding of Apple stuff, it looks like I'm reading the book directly from the app and not as a PDF file from Apple's "Books" app. I do not always have access to my IPad, as mentioned before I'm usually on my PC or Android phone. My wife and I would both like to read this book - she's just a tad better at apple stuff than me, but we're both about the same experience level. Would I be able to somehow extract and convert the book into a pdf and send it to myself and her to read on a laptop? If not, could I extract the files of the app and convert them into something readable on a PC or Android device? With android apps you can easily modify files from their .apk form – but I don't know anything about Apple. If none of that is possible, can I copy the entire app and share it with my wife on her Ipad? I know Apple has a family sharing system and according to the description of the app on the Apple store, it supports family share. However according to the email an Apple Tech sent me, in-app purchases are NOT supported by the family sharing system. Which means, when I share the app – my wife is stuck with the free 25 pg trial and is being asked to pay again to access the full book. Anyone know how to combat this?? Thanks in advanced! Why wont songs add to my apple music playlists? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:36 PM PST Since the last couple of days I have not been able to add songs to my playlists or library but have been able to listen to music just fine. Any tips on what the solution could be? [link] [comments] |
Deleting Garageband Sound Library? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:35 PM PST I have barely any space left on my Macbook Air, and my Garageband sound library is taking up a lot of that space. I need to make some big downloads, and getting rid of a bunch of small files isn't really feasible. The problem is, I have music made using sounds from the sound library, and I'm afraid deleting the sound library would delete the music itself. Any advice? Alternatives? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:07 PM PST I have noticed something really irritation when I navigate my track pad over some pages. It becomes 'sticky". For example, this page seems to consistently show the problem, for me at least: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6525515 If I just navigate my mouse pointer across the screen it slows down slightly while moving over the text. Presumably this is a feature but I really don't like it. Can I turn it off? Mac Os Seierra 10.12.6 with a Bluetooth track pad. I could not see any options that sounded what I'm looking for under trackpad settings. [link] [comments] |

Desktops swapping since Mojave Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:58 AM PST I have multiple desktops (3 to be exact) and each one has different things assigned to it. Since downloading Mojave (currently running 10.14.2), the desktops have been switching around and it's driving me insane. For example, my desktop 2 (with safari assigned) will become my new desktop 3, with desktop 3 becoming my new desktop 2. Then, I have to manually unassign safari and reassign it once again to desktop 2 because it thought it was supposed to be on desktop 3. This happens multiple times a day. I never had this problem before Mojave. Is anyone else experiencing this annoying bug? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:31 PM PST I have a 2017 MB GLA250. The HUD is working fine. All normal Mercedes functionality is intact but when i plug my phone into the Carplay USB port (using the MB OEM lightning to USB wire) it activates Carplay and then the Carplay screen goes into a serious pixelization. It actually looks like the refresh rate drops to next to nothing. I've never seen this issue in any other car, with or without carplay. Anyone ever encounter this or have a fix? I'm inclined to try and do a system reset but, because it's only effecting Carplay, i wasn't sure if this was a car issue or an iphone issue. [link] [comments] |
