Unable to download apps from unidentified developers Posted: 02 Feb 2019 03:17 PM PST Just like the title says, I used to be able to download apps from the internet, by changing the settings in Security&Privacy to allow downloads from anyone. But now, the option for "Anywhere" is gone. Anyone know why or how to get around this? I have a 2016 MacBook Pro non-touch bar on MacOS Mojave 10.14. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Does anyone know how to color the white banner in Itunes? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 02:29 PM PST There used to be a colored banner when you select a playlist. The banner took the color from the artwork of the album or one you selected from your pc. Now, even though you select an image, the banner will remain white. Does anyone know how to change that? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 06:27 PM PST My Goal: To update my macbook air to OS X El Capitan or higher, whatever appropriate. Problem: While trying to download the El Capitan update from the app store, it requires I log in with the apple id. Then it gives me the error
Before this I just did a clean install of the OS that the machine originally came with, and updated everything thoroughly. Both the System Updates and App Store updates show everything as up to date. Details: Macbook Air 11', mid 2011. OSX 10.7.5 Any ideas how to proceed? [link] [comments] |
MacBook Air Mojave Slow Boot Time Posted: 02 Feb 2019 09:49 PM PST Model: MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2014) OS: Mojave 10.14.2 Etrecheck report: https://pastebin.com/Qngyn2jC The boot up time of my Mac has increased from 10-15 seconds in Yosemite to in excess of 20 seconds in Mojave. I upgraded from Yosemite to Mojave in one go because my mac was configured by my school and there would be compatibility problems. Now that I have graduated, the school did a reinstall of macOS using target disk mode. Any ideas on how to improve boot time? [link] [comments] |

MacBook Pro 2018 vs iMac 2017. What should I buy? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 02:45 PM PST I bought the MacBook Pro and have ten days to return it and I am thinking about getting switching to the iMac. Here are the specs for my MacBook vs the iMac specs I would trade it in for. I mostly leave my computer in one spot and do some 4k video editing. I am wondering about performance in editing and longevity. Please help with your opinions and comparisons. I want to know if the iMac with these specs is going to be significantly faster then what I have now. My MacBook Pro 2018.
VS the iMac I might trade it in for 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display
I just can't tell if an 8th gen i7 six core 2.2ghz stands up to a 7th gen 3.6ghz i7. Both computers cost the exact same. Which one would you get and why? [link] [comments] |
Migration Assistant is occupying disk space Posted: 02 Feb 2019 11:26 AM PST So, I recently got a new Macbook Pro, and at first I was tempted to try using the migration assistant to transfer my old Macbook Pro date to the new one. As I didn't have any other cables etc, I foolishly tried the WiFi solution. After several hours of not moving much I decided to cancel the transfer. The only things I wanted to transfer were my Photoslibrary of 150 GB, otherwise most of the programs and files I have are synced via the cloud, so I would be up to date automatically with them, and I figured I might as well try to get a clean start without all the stupid plug ins I've installed and never used throughout the years. Done and done. Copies the photos from my backup-drive and set everything up. It does take some time after all, but in the and, all is well that ends well. Or so I thought. I recently noticed that my harddrive was almost full, which felt odd. I had less remaning disk space than my old Macbook, despite this being a clean install. So I look around using among other things "Grand Perspecitve" app, and it too says that I should have a lot more space. Almost 300 GB to be precise. I try restarting the computer and realise that there's two accounts to log into. The one I created, but also the one I have on my old mac (changed names since starting that one up, so it has a different user name). At this point I figure that the logical explanaition is that the Migration Assistant reserved space on the HD for the profile I atempted to migrate, but it didn't release it when I cancelled the transfer. So the question is. How can I free that disk space up? It've spent the last day setting things up on the computer, and it would really suck to have to do it all over again. Getting new licenses for my Autodesk products etc. Is there a way to free the space up or is another clean install my only option? [link] [comments] |
Just bought a Macbook, but I can hear it move inside the box Posted: 02 Feb 2019 02:09 PM PST I just bought a Macbook from John Lewis (new, sealed) however as I moved the box I can hear the laptop move inside. I'm worried because I didn't think it could move and once I open it I can't return it. Is it normal to be able to hear it move or am I being paranoid? [link] [comments] |
Have a 2017 macbook, how can i verify whether i have the stage light problem? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 05:26 AM PST I have a flickering black bar across the bottom of my screen. it doesn't look like the pics of the stage light issue which seems to be more of a stripe like version of what i have... also is this coupled by apple care? i have apple care til 2020(i got spooked by the keyboard issue thing when i bought it) https://cdn.cultofmac.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/3E1BB4A5-E186-4411-8473-3F64CF5F7F24.jpeg - stagelight pic whereas min is a solid flickering black line across bottom of screen [link] [comments] |
2012 Mac Mini won’t recognize new SSD Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:50 PM PST I botched a swap of my late 2012 Mini's hdd for a new SSD today. It seemed to go fine, but the new drive isn't recognized when I try to install the OS from the Mojave bootable USB that I made. The installer runs fine, but it doesn't see my new empty SSD as an drive option. I've pulled everything out, checked all the connections, and reassembled everything with the same result. Any idea what I should try next? Did the drive need to be formatted somehow prior to the install? I assumed that the bootable usb installer would handle all that. ———————————————— Model: late 2012 Mac mini i5. 16 GB ram. New SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 500GB OS: none. Did I get a good deal? Also, some flipping advice please! Posted: 02 Feb 2019 06:44 PM PST While I'm waiting for my Macbook Pro 15 to get it's Anti-Reflective coating replaced through Apple, I decided to pick up 3 older Macbooks. Got it from a guy who's selling some laptops because his inventory is too full of them. Got it from fix4yourself, however he was nice enough to test the basic functions of the laptops that I wanted to buy before I confirmed the purchase. Here's what I got and the price / condition that I got them for. Mind you he doesn't know the specs, only the condition and model numbers.. -Early 2006 to Early 2009 White Macbook (A1181) ~ Good condition, good keyboard, screen, battery... everything working. $17.23 with FREE charger. -Early 2006 Macbook Pro (A1150) ~ Good condition, good keyboard, screen battery... everything working. $20.68 -Late 2009 White Macbook Unibody (A1342) ~ Good condition, good keyboard with 1 keycap missing, good screen, battery... everything working but hardrive removed. $10.34 Also since I got it on TradeMe which is a local selling/buying site, postage was only about $2.50. Can I flip these laptops in 2019? I knw you can put Windows 10 or Ubuntu linux on them and make them run well, however when they arrive, I want to keep only 1 and flip 2 after using them for a few days. Which ones should I flip? For how much? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Built-In Camera Not Recognized by MacBook Pro Posted: 02 Feb 2019 06:05 PM PST Model: Mid-2017 MacBook Pro 13" w/ Touch Bar Version: macOS Mojave 10.14.3 Issue: My MacBook Pro's built-in camera stopped working. In the System Profiler, it now says, "No video capture devices were found." It wasn't always like that. For the past few months, the camera would stop working randomly, but I could fix it by rebooting it or using the "sudo killall VDCAssistant" code in Terminal. Now, these things don't work. I tried the following:
Some of these things did work to make the camera be recognized by the MacBook Pro, but now nothing works. I did the Apple Diagnostics Test, and it found no problems. It seems like this issue started when I installed macOS Mojave back in September, and it has only gotten worse. Does anyone know what to do? [link] [comments] |
iPod Touch 2nd Gen headphone jack issue Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:02 PM PST This morning, after plugging my headphones in my iPod, I noticed the sound came out of both the headphones and the built-in speaker. I can change the volume, but it only changes for the speaker, not the headphones, where it's either on or off. At some moments it works properly, I can change the volume of my headphones and no sound comes out of the speaker. I don't know what makes it work, as applying pressure on the headphones or on the bottom of the screen doesn't affect anything. I tried synchronising it with iTunes, and plugging in my headphones with a small bit of napkin surrounding them, neither worked. It has the latest updates, the headphones work fine on other devices, and if this changes anything, recently I had another issue with the iPod with headphones plugged in, every now and then the volume would change to a specific point, and it only happened when the screen was locked and when I moved it around (i.e. had it in my pocket and walked). Any ideas on how to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Maps sends me through tolls even with “avoid tolls active” Posted: 02 Feb 2019 05:13 PM PST Like the tittle says. Has happened twice for in the past month. At first it gives me the different routes and says "this route has tolls" on the bottom ones but after i start the no toll route it seems like it changes the route after i start it because the route i see in the overview is one and then after i pass a certain point i notice all the exists have tolls and it sent me on a different route than the one i selected. I even ended the route when i realized and re did it and still sent me through tolls even though the route says no tolls [link] [comments] |
Pseudo-clean install of MacOS Mojave due to firmware password lockout Posted: 02 Feb 2019 11:11 AM PST EDIT: please see answer by /u/livmaj below.. this worked! In before comments... YES, I purchased this MBP from Apple directly, it was a refurb. YES, I know I have to take it to Apple or get in touch with Apple support in some way for them to unlock the firmware password. On to the question... I'm running a 2016 MBP 13", currently on High Sierra. It's been getting a little buggy on me and I've been postponing updating to Mojave until I can properly back everything up and perform a fully clean reformat / upgrade. I've finally sat down to go through this process and I'm ready to go... I rebooted and am hit with a firmware password prompt. I had completely forgotten that I set a firmware password on this after I got it in an attempt to be "super secure" because I take this MBP everywhere and it made sense to me to harden it in every way possible in case of theft. Logic / fear aside, now I'm stuck because I've tried every password I can think of, and every permutation of each one of those that it might possibly be, short of writing a brute-force script to go through all the combinations. IIRC, I know I thought it to be so simple or common that I didn't bother to write it down. So much for that. Apart from going through the trouble of handing this off to Apple and having the firmware password reset / disabled, is there a way I can perform a "pseudo" clean install, so that I can mitigate the issues I'm having now, without having to reboot into a specific mode (i.e. bypassing the firmware lock)? How do I transfer an app that isn’t on the iTunes store anymore? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 10:38 AM PST I have a game installed on my iPad 2 that I'd like to transfer to my iPhone 8, both are running the newest OS that they can support. Is this possible? I don't care about any saved data I have on the iPad, I'd just like to play on my iPhone instead. The game is fargoal if that makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Feb 2019 04:20 PM PST I just purchased a new iPad Pro today and set it up, enabling support for Messages in iCloud during the process. However, once everything finished syncing, I noticed in the Messages app that my most recent conversations with someone was missing a number of messages from today. I tried a number of ideas to restore them, including disabling Messages in iCloud and enabling it again and signing out and back in to my iCloud account with no success. One of my most recent attempts was to disable iMessages in iCloud, delete the thread on the iPad and enable it again, with the hope that it would sync the entire conversation thread back but it did not, and now I've lost the thread entirely. I tried having the person send me new iMessages and while they're added to the original thread on my iPhone, a new empty thread just appears on the iPad. How can I restore this thread from iCloud? Apple Watch Series 4 waterproof-ness? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 09:42 AM PST Hi everyone, so I've upgraded to an Apple Watch Series 4 today after holding out for a few months. I never trusted the 'waterproofing' of my ancient Series 0 watch so I was wondering just how waterproof is the Series 4? I know they say IP67 or something like that for the Series 4. It should stand up to being in the shower I presume? I had issues in the rain before with my old watch, hence the question. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can't install latest macOS from recovery Posted: 02 Feb 2019 11:52 AM PST Hi everybody, I have an iMac with Mojave installed, it was an old installation full of useless stuff so I decided to restore a Time Machine backup from my MacBook Pro (that has been formatted and setup from scratch few days ago). Logically for some reason my iMac won't boot (stuck on the Apple logo with 100% complete bar), so I now want to find a way to install Mojave on top of my existing OS to repair it. The problem: If I enter the recovery mode with ⌘-R, it prompts me to install Yosemite. If I enter with Option-⌘-R, it still prompts me to install Yosemite, even if, according to Apple, this command should prompt me to install the latest compatible macOS version available. My iMac is a 5K iMac of the 2014 and absolutely supports Mojave, but for the life of me I can't find a way to get prompted to install Mojave rather than Yosemite... What are my options? Do I have to prepare a USB recovery key from my MacBook? I'd like to find some quicker solution. Thanks! P.S. I already tried to reset NVRAM, PRAM, etc, etc... Tried to delete some mbr something file, still nothing. [link] [comments] |
How do I change my Stand goal in the Activities app? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 03:32 PM PST My goal defaulted to standing 12 hours a day and I'm trying to change it. I have a XS Max and latest series Apple Watch. I tried hard pressing the activity app in my watch but it only allows you to change move goal. [link] [comments] |
Want to speed up a 2013 iMacs with an external SSD. Should I go Thunderbolt or USB 3 enclosure? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 07:18 AM PST As the title says I've got a bunch of Late-2013 27" iMacs (14,2 model) that are just amazingly slow. At this point I have to think the HDDs (not fusion drives) are the bottleneck because I can't see anything else wrong or unusual and Blackmagic Disk Speed Test reports pretty awful numbers. For some dumb reason these models have Thunderbolt 1 instead of TB2, even thought TB2 had been out for a while. USB 3 is going to be cheaper in terms of buying enclosures. Is there any reason I would want to go with TB1+SSD as opposed to USB3+SSD? [link] [comments] |
Touchscreen Issue While Charging Posted: 02 Feb 2019 02:44 PM PST Hey... I need help, I bought a 2nd phone (iPhone SE) online and the phone is working fine UNTIL. I charge the phone around 70% or above and the touchscreen will jump a little. I had tried to use different adaptors and all of them are the same.. I have tried to replace the battery and no luck! :( Do you guys have any idea which part of the phone is broken? Do you think the charging port is broken? Because sometimes the phone "electrocutes" me while charging and this never happened before with my old iPhones. [link] [comments] |
Help using gift cards on Apple Pay? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 12:34 PM PST Hey guys, I was wondering what type of prepaid card I would have to buy in order to transfer money onto Apple Pay Cash. On the Apple website it says: "Tap Add, then confirm the U.S. debit or prepaid card that you want to use to add money. To use a different debit or prepaid card, tap next to your card, then choose a card." "You can't add money to your Apple Pay Cash card using a credit card, and you might not be able to use some prepaid cards. You can't add money from a gift card, even if it's already in Wallet." I need help knowing what type of prepaid card I need to buy so it will work with Apple Pay so I'm not wasting any money [link] [comments] |
How to see purchase history in the new Mac App Store? Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:16 AM PST There used to be a "Purchased" tab in the old Mac App Store that let you see all of your purchases and re-download them at any time. There is an app that I have deleted but want to re-download but it is saying that I have to pay for it again when I search for it in the Mac App Store. I even have the receipt in my email from when I first bought it back in 2015, and I have never used any other Apple ID account. Is there any way to see all of your previous purchases in the Mac App Store like you used to be able to? [link] [comments] |
Buying gift cards and my country doesn’t appear Posted: 02 Feb 2019 08:11 AM PST Hi, I am from Honduras and I want to send a gift card to my brother via the Apple store web page (not the app, since it throws me an error that I need iOS6 to use it, when I am in the last version of iOS). I chose the amount and my payment method but when it comes to billing address my country doesn't appear. I can't buy gift cards of 25$ in my country to use within my country ? [link] [comments] |
