Spilt water on my 13 inch MacBook Pro. Advice on how to prevent water damage? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:59 PM PST Today, I spilt a substantial amount of water on my MacBook Pro (specifically the Retina, 13-inch, that came out in Early 2015). Quickly I flipped it over as you normally would and turned it off shortly after. I now have it resting upside down (powered off) on a towel with a Fan underneath. I am a university student and not using my laptop is a huge inconvenience, but I am willing to stick it out. How long does it need to stay powered off for? I've read 24, 48, to even as long as 96 hours? I understand the longer it stays off the better. Any other helpful advice or recommendations to save my MBP from severe water damage would be highly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Password required for Safari password autofill Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:37 PM PST I'm on the version: 10.14.4 Beta (18E174f) There has been a change to Safari where autofill no longer requires you to click the "login" buttons on various websites. However it now requires my computer password every time I use autofill for passwords. Does anyone know if I can disable the need for typing in my password each time? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Whatever happened to iphone 6 bendgate? did they do a recall on the phones? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:27 PM PST If i still have a 6 out of warranty (applecare) can i still trade it in for a phone that doesn't bent? I have had a hard case with it but when i lay it flat on the table the metal is warped and there is a gap where it lifts off from the table. Normally i wouldn't have any issue with this as long as it doesn't affect the functionality of the phone, but it seems that the warping metal is making the home button shift around in the socket and the touch screen doesn't register 40-50% of the time. I'm afraid of trying to bend it back into place because the opposite pressure i make might make the screen have dark ink spots. I am not able to afford a new phone at the moment and need something to work right away. What should I do here? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2019 09:18 AM PST My Mac is absolutely infested with "other". I can't add new pictures, make videos, or even record music anymore and that's the whole reason I got my MacBook. Safari seems to be broken too and in having to use chrome. Is there any way to wipe the whole computer and start over, still keeping my pictures and songs? What is all this "other" on my hard drive anyway? [link] [comments] |
It seems impossible to use itunes to sync video to my iphone Posted: 04 Feb 2019 10:23 PM PST I have an iphone 5s. In itunes I set up a video playlist (home movies), choose it to sync on the phone video page. Nothing shows up on my phone- and what would I play it with but VLC? VLC shows 'empty media library'- the music playlist does sync, but VLC can't find it. I don't want to stream video in this case. I want it on my phone What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2019 08:47 PM PST I have a pair of Apple earbuds (not AirPods) that suddenly stopped working when I plugged them in. The sound still comes out the speakers as if they weren't plugged in at all. I know it's not a problem with the earbuds themselves, as I've tried multiple pairs and have had the same problem. I have never had problems with this before. Any help? [link] [comments] |
can I convert Apple Music songs? please help! Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:44 PM PST Please help! I have been trying for a month to convert my purchased iTunes songs into MP3 files in order to add them to the MP3 player that my 6 year old son got for Christmas. iTunes tells me that the files are protected. then I was advised that I could burn the songs to a cd and then convert them to MP3 after that. when I put the blank cd in, it tells me that 45 of the 46 songs in the playlist cannot be burned to a disc. is there any way around this at all? I purchased these songs. [link] [comments] |
A problem 2 senior advisors and an engineer couldn’t fix...HELP ! Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:21 PM PST Okay so I'll try to get all the relevant information in here so you (real) Geniuses can help me. My iPhone X on 12.1.3 Started having crazy battery issues, would last about 1/3 as long as usual, wouldn't charge past 80% so I called Apple and they ran Diagnostics and deemed the battery healthy. Fast forward 3-4 days and the phone is very hot, so I check around in settings and notice my storage is almost full, I keep my phone about half full so this is strange. Long story short the "other" file is nearly 30 GB and changes from 20-30 GB hourly But now the real issue, the phone will not back up AT ALL, not to iTunes onto my laptop or to ICloud on the phone or my laptop, so I can't restore without losing my data. Been through 2 senior service advisors at Apple and just got off the phone with an engineer, who was also unsuccessful. Tried Pretty much everything. PLEASE HELP! [link] [comments] |
Read Receipts: Saying a text is read when the text was not actually read Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:17 PM PST I have been sending texts to my boyfriend on an iPhone XR to his iPhone 7. The second that one of my texts is sent, it displays as being read, even though it has not been read yet. How is that fixed? [link] [comments] |
4th gen Nano freezing Itunes and Windows Explorer Posted: 04 Feb 2019 06:16 PM PST Hi all, I just purchased this used iPod and I'm having a hell of a time with it on Windows 10. Whenever I plug it in, my computer detects it but iTunes freezes, as well as Windows Explorer. Essentially, when plugged in, I can't do anything in iTunes and I can't interact with the drive in Windows Explorer to eject, format, etc. (but as soon as I reset it, those right click options appear and iTunes/explorer unfreezes) I have tried this on two different Windows 10 computers with the exact same problem. I tried it with both the newest version of iTunes and a slightly older version. I tried resetting the device many times, and tried it in disk mode to no avail. In the device manager, I tried to update the driver but it says it is the current up-to-date version. I tried with all antivirus/firewalls off. I've Googled this quite a bit and attempted every suggestion I could find and nothing. I am going to try it on a Windows 7 computer tomorrow, but in the meantime I'm wondering if any of you guys have suggestions. EDIT: I tried turning off my computer, resetting the iPod, and then turning my computer back on and my computer got stuck on a black screen until I turned the iPod off again. Very strange. EDIT2: Forgot to add I tried turning off auto sync. And I'm on a 64 bit system. Screen on the iPod says "connected, eject before disconnecting." iPod works fine, plays music, etc. EDIT3: My old iPhone 4s works fine, is this iPod done? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:29 PM PST I will try to make this make sense. Today I got a new Samsung phone with a new phone number. However, when my friends with iPhones try to text me it sends as an iMessage and goes to someone else who claims to have the same phone number. From what I understand it's not possible to have the same phone number tied to 2 different SIM cards. But the person insists they have the exact same phone number as me. Is it possible they are wrong about their phone number and have my number linked to their iMessage account? [link] [comments] |

iPhone XS using data overnight Posted: 04 Feb 2019 05:40 PM PST Has anyone else experienced there iPhone XS using data overnight. I just got the XS 3 weeks ago. I have my phone hooked up to WiFi and tested the signal strength and everything is working fine. When I go to bed it seems as thought my iPhone disconnects and starts to use excessive amounts of data overnight, so much so that I am now over my limit for the month. Anyone experience this? I've tried turning off social media and WiFi assist to no avail. Thanks for reading and the help. [link] [comments] |
Prohibitory grey screen and external hard drive Posted: 04 Feb 2019 05:25 PM PST I posted a few days ago about my mid 2012 MacBook Pro starting up with the grey prohibitory screen and some of you suggested it was the hard drive cable (which is a common issue in this model I've learned). My question is, if that is the problem, would I be able to use an external hard drive to redownload the OS X (since when I try it in recovery mode, my drive doesn't show up as an option)? Or would it be better to just fix it, or have it fixed, and hope it doesn't happen again? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |

[iPhone 6S] [iOS 12.1.2] How can I delete this file? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:42 PM PST Hey! I had a jail broken iPhone from years ago, but have removed my jailbreak. Unfortunately, I keep getting this message while trying to open a Clover App on my iPhone: https://imgur.com/gallery/9MsAjFQ How can I delete this? I'm trying to navigate the Files app, but it won't let me get into those types of files. Any help is appreciated thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:37 PM PST I recently updated my iphone 6 plus from ios 12.0 to 12.1.2 and then restored my itunes backup. Then after some time, it randomly lags and freezes then it reboots. I noticed that it happens at a certain amount of battery (like 40%). Also, when i am plugged in power ac, it doesn't reboot. This happens when i updated my firmware. I would be trying tontry to erase all content after my internet connection is up. Do you have any more suggestions that i should try. Or maybe the battery is dying? [link] [comments] |
My iPhone doesn’t stay connected to the WiFi I choose. Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:16 PM PST So I have two wireless routers routers in my house. One for upstairs, and one for downstairs because one is not big enough for the whole house. I've noticed over the last 6 months whenever I sit next to my upstairs router, it never wants to stay connected to my phone. I'll connect to the upstairs, and within 2 minutes it disconnects and connects me to my downstairs (which is obviously too far away, and the signal is awful and I can't do anything). So then I have to repeat this process 3 or 4 times before it finally stays connected. The downstairs one has no problem, the second I connect it stays connected. Any idea what might be causing this? Best way to set up a Mac/Macbook for dual users? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:15 PM PST My partner and I have been together for 12 years, and on our iMac and iOS devices we have always just used my iCloud account for purchases, etc. On the Mac this means that it's my mail in apple mail (she uses a web browser), my contacts, etc. We just bought a new MacBook which she will mostly use but she'll sometimes use the Mac and I'll need the MacBook. I'd like to get her set up on the laptop so she can use iMessage, Mail, Calendar, Contacts, etc, but we still want to just have a single shared documents folder/desktop/iTunes, which I think we lose if I just set her up with a separate log in. Is there an easy way around this? We have family sharing (irrelevant really as all purchases are on my account) and 1TB iCloud. There are no privacy concerns for either of us, but having a single shared Mail app doesn't work. Many thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
/users/ folder smaller than it's subfolders? Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:05 PM PST On my mac, under the /Users/ folder it says that it has a size of 196.55 GB, but when I navigate into it and highlight its contents, it comes up with 548.09 GB. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I've enabled My mac is running macOS Mojave version 10.14.2 Thanks EDIT: It seems to have just fixed itself suddenly, probably a sign that I should get a new computer. [link] [comments] |
Dealing with very very very large music libraries Posted: 04 Feb 2019 04:39 AM PST Hi all, I'm predominantly a Windows guy, but I have several Macs. I have an enormous music library (I'm a DJ so I keep full libraries of many formats so that I can be prepared to play pretty much anything). My current song count is about 1.2 million. It spans just about 11 TB and grows by about 250gb per month. On my Windows PC, I use MediaMonkey to keep tabs and search all my music. But now I want to duplicate my library over to a Mac. I have a 24TB external drive that will house the library, but I need a way to manage and search it. I have tried iTunes, but it freezes just even importing all the music. After searching a bit, it seems iTunes just doesn't handle large libraries well, choking on libraries even a quarter of the size of mine. Does anyone have any recommendations to handle a music library of this size? I could put MediaMonkey in a Wine wrapper but I'd really prefer something Mac native. Thanks in advance! Unable to authenticate subscription in Apple News Posted: 04 Feb 2019 01:18 PM PST I've had a subscription to National Geographic Magazine for years now, and it has been linked to Apple News with no problem since shortly after it was available to link. Today, out of nowhere, I got a notification that there was a problem with my subscription... I tried to authenticate, but after logging in with the WebView it presents me of the Nat Geo website I am just taken to my account settings. (There, I can see my still-active print + digital subscription) I am presented with no options other than cancel, and the content remains locked with Apple News saying I need to subscribe to view this content. I can try reaching out to Nat Geo support as well, but I've tried that in the past with other issues and it can take a month or more to get a response -- and it usually requires two or three rounds of that to get a solution, which can end up being half a year or more. I read Nat Geo articles in Apple News all the time, and this is a seriously annoying issue; nothing helpful has turned up in any web searches on the topic for me, either. What should I do in this case? Who should I go to if I need official support, Apple or Nat Geo? Is anyone else experiencing problems like this, either with Nat Geo or another subscription you've linked [but not purchased through iTunes]? [link] [comments] |
Macbook Pro (2012) Troubles - Circle Slash on Boot, Reinstall of OS Failing Posted: 04 Feb 2019 05:25 AM PST Hello all, so I have been grappling with a few problems with my Macbook Pro (2012).
What Ive done to troubleshoot:
I have VERY limited experience with Macs but nearly 16 years of experience fixing PCs so Im only now discovering the tools at my disposal so this is beyond frustrating. Please let me know if you can help or if I did something wrong. I know the battery might be the issue but I cant imagine is causing a full OS failure. [link] [comments] |
