Apple blocks Google from running its internal iOS apps Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:15 PM PST |
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:28 AM PST I have an iPhone X. Very nice looking phone. My previous phone was a 6 Plus. The X is an amazing phone, the screen blows me away. But after over a year of use I still miss TouchID. TouchID was so easy and worked 99% of the time for me. So easy to unlock with one hand. Unlock without looking. Unlock at weird angles. For me FaceID is way more work and much more inconvenent and slower. It requires my attention. And does not work in many situations when the phone isn't upright. For example my car has car play. And some times it requires me to unlock the phone. But the phone does not have a direct view of my face where it is docked. So I have to enter the passcode. What a pain. Am I the only one? This might be a dumb question, but why are a few of the iOS apps kind of redundant? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:57 AM PST Sorry if the title is confusing, but I was just wondering if someone had an answer to this. So for example why do we need 3 separate apps for phone, contacts, and FaceTime when we can literally do all 3 from the phone app? The phone app has a contact section in it so why is there just a contact app that does the same thing? Why is there a separate FaceTime app when you can choose what number to call or FaceTime from the phone app? I literally have contacts and FaceTime in a folder on another page because they just take up space and you obviously can't delete them. Is there a reason for breaking it up? Or is it just how it's always been? Also on the same kind of note I never use the physical camera app to get to the camera as I have an iPhone X so it's either the camera button on the home screen or from the control panel. But if you delete the camera app you can't use your camera anymore? Which makes sense I guess but it's still objectively dumb. So that's kinda just also hidden too. I don't know, it just seems like there's a better way to go about this maybe? Again sorry if this is dumb, I've just kind of always wondered? [link] [comments] |

Hidden gems on the App Store. (iOS + macOS) Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:56 PM PST Its been a while since a similar thread was posted - what are some of the lesser known great apps you've come across recently? They can be for iOS and macOS both. [link] [comments] |

Bluetooth accessories volume memory. Another underrated Apple feature. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:24 PM PST Hello everybody! First of all let me tell you that I am an Apple user since the iPhone 4. I recently purchased a Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite to test what the Android world has become in 2018/2019. This device joined the Android One program so I was able to try the latest Android 9 Pie release. I'd like to focus on an aspect I was honestly impressed. I, as I think most of you, use several Bluetooth devices during my day. iOS has always had the convenience to precisely remember what volume you set on each Bluetooth device, in order to set it back when you connect again that device. So I was thinking that this was a standard thing on all smartphones. Sadly, I was really surprised that it wasn't on Android. Let's make a simple example: connect your Bluetooth headphones and set volume to 50%, turn it off and connect a Bluetooth speaker and set volume to 100%, turn if off and connect your Bluetooth headphones and boom! you get the music in your ears at 100% volume. This is incredible, I couldn't live this way. After all of this been said, I am even more convinced to keep on using my loved iPhone X. This is only one of several little -big- pearls that change your day. Apple, sometimes I forget how good -and expensive- your products are. [link] [comments] |
Is there any real reason why iPads don’t have the low power mode toggle? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:47 PM PST I figure with how power efficient iOS is for the most part, you could probably get at least a tiny bit more battery life. Am I missing something here? [link] [comments] |

Size comparison of apples 5 watt charger vs Ankers 30 watt fast charger. Posted: 31 Jan 2019 01:19 PM PST I was waiting to buy the Anker power atom pd since I first heard about it near the end of last year. I kept checking and even emailed Anker about it then they said it will be delayed to early 2019. I would check every few days to see if it was available for purchase until I got lucky on Jan 12 and saw that I could pre order it from amazon and that it would be delivered late January but then the ship date got moved to Jan 16 and that's when I got it. I use it to fast charge my iPhone XS Max and it charges amazingly fast. I haven't timed it to see how fast it charged but it's a shit load faster than the 5 watt one that comes with the iPhone. I have to use an Apple lighting to usb c cable because that's the only way to get fast charging on iPhone, you can use a 3rd party power adopter but it has to be an Apple cable until March, that's when 3rd parties will start selling MFI usb c-lighting cables.
